The brilliant thing about growing as a professional is choosing the company you surround yourself with. Motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with... So who is in your circle? Who are you choosing to learn from and grow with? I feel so blessed to be surrounded by some of the most compassionate and supportive people there are! #management #leadership #growth #chantelshares …see more

Here are 24 suggestions* to help you leap into a better #career : 9. Work on self-awareness It’s not just about how you move through the world; it’s about knowing how your energy affects others. 10. Practice empathy Put people first, ask thoughtful and probing questions that draw out implications and feelings, listen more and talk less. 11. Shift your perspective Your perspective is the lens by which you view yourself, your career, and the world. It affects the story you tell yourself and others and impacts your potential. 12. Let vulnerability be your superpower When we’re brave enough to ask for help, we model vulnerability, creating a positive ripple effect. 13. Tidy up your work environment Understand whom and what best supports what you want, and then align yourself with those people and places that do. 14. Engage your curiosity Be open to exploring new ideas, experiences, and possibilities, meeting new people, learning new things, and leaving behind limiting beliefs. 15. Flash your smile Smiling puts others at ease, makes you magnetic, inspires confidence and trust, and is contagious. 16. Get creative Ask questions, pay attention, be open-minded, set aside time to let your mind wander, and not be afraid to take risks. *Part 2 of 3 #leadership #progress …see more

I can’t believe I’m typing down these words: brands can buy ad space on band-aids people get after the COVID jab. The company highlights that one vaccine potentially has thousands of impressions on social media (so that you can get an idea of the brand reach as a metric). Minimum order: 30,000 bandages Thus corporations subsidize government costs. Funds for BRAND-AID® will go towards logistics for distributing the vaccine. #brandedbandaid #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus …see more

The U-turn in yields on US government bonds (post initial reactions to Fed Chair Powell’s remarks) has accelerated, now amounting to almost 10 basis points. As posted earlier, what equity investors see as unambiguously positive is viewed in a more nuanced way by bond investors. #markets #bonds #investing #investors #fed …see more

Educators and administrators are working very hard to figure out what to do with the upcoming start of school and university. Some have opted for a physical option; others for virtual or hybrid. We like to say the world is changing faster than ever, but the biggest changes I've seen in the last 5 years are: -Dockless bikes and eScooters ( in some cities) -Digital kiosks in retailers, airports and fast food joints. -Rise of vaping. -Apps to order food from places you go to collect from -Delivery drivers for Fast food joints. -Meatless meat. This is pretty much it. And none of these are talked about much or were ever predicted. What am I missing? …see more

I'm seeking new outlets to write for as I'm moving away from advertising writing to focus on the changing world and what tech means for business, life and society. Who would you like to see my write for? What contacts do you have? I'd love to write for Fast Company for example but they always ignore me. My criteria are either size of reach, quality of audience, or how much they pay ( I give all writing income to charity FYI) …see more

In 10 months, the Bright Machines SW Engineering team has grown from 3 to 105 amazing #brightpeople , and counting. How did we do it? Here's our 30 second blueprint: Make genuinely great offers. Be honest about the opportunity, and expectations of the role. Champion equality and diversity. Promote transparency. Provide a world-class engineering culture: free of politics, bureaucracy and red tape. Demonstrate proven leadership to help employees grow through positive affirmation, recognition and trust. Kill management toxicity, bullying and intimidation dead where it stands. For God's sake, get rid of the BS promo processes and stack ranking that cause so much stress and anxiety. Promote people when the time is right, without committees and 30 page promo documents. Show your folks that you are truly invested in their growth by your actions, not with polarizing, byzantine mechanisms. Listen to your employees instead of talking at them. Make sure they don't kill themselves at work. And tell them "thank you" every chance you get. Attracting and retaining great talent is not rocket science, it's actually very easy. It just takes acting from first principles and simply being human. Please steal this blueprint, and apply it to your company. Everyone wins. #dobetter #hiring #dayone …see more

Did you know discomfort isn’t necessarily a bad thing? Feeling bad isn’t always bad! The truth is, being emotionally uncomfortable is our default human state. Without the discomfort of wanting things to be better, we would never change. This is important to keep in mind because much of the self-help industry tells people that they’re supposed to be happy all the time. If you’re not happy, then something must be wrong with you, right? That’s silly! This mindset ignores the fact that our natural state is not happiness. Our species evolved for perpetual disquietude, not constant bliss. Stop running from discomfort and instead let’s learn how to harness its power. Our constant discomfort is what helped our species invent life-saving medicines, overturn despots, and explore the cosmos. We’ve always wanted more and better and that’s a good thing! We can learn to use our emotional discomfort as rocket fuel to propel us towards traction rather than trying to escape discomfort with dis-traction. We can't control our feelings. Instead of trying to numb our pain with another glass of wine, another Netflix episode, or another hour of mindless scrolling, let’s listen to our discomfort and harness its power for good. #Indistractbale #Values #Evolution #Psychology …see more

For a lot of entrepreneurs: relationships suck. And I don't want that to be the case for me. So I only take advice in that realm from people that are doing it well. Angela Quigley is married to her business partner. Something she talks about is that you can't have it all. You only have 100% to give and you have to get clear on where that percentage goes. You can't give 100% to every category. So get clear on what is important to you and focus on those things. Thoughts? #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more
