It’s been a year since the lockdown in Wuhan. At first, little did we realize the world was facing a generation-defining challenge. My own realization of the gravity--coming in part from my developing country experience-- came in late Jan, intensifying in early February (below from CNBC ). #wuhancoronavirus #wuhan #covid__19 #covid19 #covid …see more

In exiting from the economic lockdowns triggered by the Covid-19 break, the U.S. ran a "natural experiment" that fell short overall of what is both feasible and desirable. The result of a second, ongoing experiment may be the same if we ignore the lessons https://lnkd.in/gcaK552 #bopinion #bloomberg #markets #economy #covid #covid19 …see more

The June US consumer confidence index came in well above consensus expectations: 98.1 versus an expected 91 and May's 85.9. Similar to what will happen with Thursday's jobs data, there are questions re sustainability given recent health indicators. Meanwhile, markets are reacting well with the Dow cutting its losses and the S&P/NASDAQ heading higher in positive territory. #economy #us #confidence …see more

‪It’s so sad to see Brazil go from bad to worse in the war against COVID-19. The key to success? Not raw talents or networking. It's a growth mindset. A mindset that's malleable and willing enough to transform every opportunity, including failures, into a learning and growth opportunity. Easier said than done. Most of us in our day-to-day's will exhibit a fixed mindset when it comes to confrontations, failures, and feedback. It's during these times of crisis where you should pause and take a moment to breathe. Reminding yourself that with every confrontation, failure, and negative feedback, can be turned into an opportunity to get better. What else would you add to this list? PC: Train Ugly …see more

Screentime on IOS 12 is the best new “app” I’ve seen for years. Would love someone to build a way to share our behavior (would an API work ?) and use it to compete to use phones less. Is it possible ? Does someone want to sponsor it and reward those who reduce usage the most. Patagonia ? Ticketmaster ? Casper ?

#WhenIWas15 I was regretting my decision to have appeared the class 10 board exams while still in class 8 because it meant I had to study art subjects for 11/12th in a Hindi medium all girls school in Unnao (small town in India in news for wrong reasons) - still the last time I studied in a class. So I decided to take the year 12 board exams for Physics/Chemistry/Biology as a private student again, while also studying Literature and Economics for my BA. Gosh I was one confused teenager. Hello all, I'm writing with some big news to share - I'm running for President as a Democrat in 2020. This is not something I arrived at lightly. I'm running because I'm confident that we are going to automate away millions of jobs in the next number of years and we need big changes to get through this time. The elimination of 4 million manufacturing jobs in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and other states gave us Donald Trump. The displacement of retail workers, truck drivers, fast food workers, call center workers, etc. will strain our society beyond repair. The simple truth is that our technology is advancing faster than our labor market can adapt - I know this better than most because of my work with Venture for America. Here's my announcement video (2 mins): https://lnkd.in/eWczdnc My platform centers on Universal Basic Income of $1k/month per adult and evolution to the next stage of capitalism geared toward optimizing around human well-being in addition to GDP.   I hope that you are excited by the launch of my campaign. We can improve the lives of our fellow citizens and make our country one that we will all be proud to have our children grow up in. Look forward to going on this journey with you - let's show what we can do. Yours gratefully,  - Andrew …see more

To harness the power of words and improve your #communication and #career : Stop meandering and get to the point🎯 When you want to deliver a message, be intentional about it, eliminate extraneous material, and get to the point—or risk being viewed as unorganized or unsure. Focus on one takeaway☝🏼 Each piece of #content should revolve around one central theme, which forces you to home in on your message, promoting better understanding. Switch from negative to positive➕ When you use positive language, you’re perceived as more likable, supportive, and caring; using negative language paints you as critical and confrontational, even when that’s not your intent. Move from passive to active voice 🚀 Using the active voice conveys a strong, clear tone, propelling us forward. Incorporate evocative language🦄 Never again use “nice,” “good,” or “fine”—the four-letter milquetoasts of the word world. You’ll stand out, capture your audience’s attention, and ensure that your message will be more memorable. Craft your story📖 Stories that are personal and emotionally compelling engage more of the brain, and thus are better remembered than simply stating a set of facts. Once you have your story, it changes everything, including how others perceive, pay, and promote you. …see more
