As a former Amazonian who has had a measure of success at Amazon for several years, I get asked about what Amazon's "secret recipe" is quite often. My thoughts, FWIW: 1) Among Amazon's Leadership Principles (LPs), "Deliver Results" is the most important. The secret to the LPs is they all work concordantly and in harmony. But they all lead to "Deliver Results", pure and simple. 2) Data, data, and more data (including how "Deliver Results" is tracked and measured). Amazon is obsessively data driven, and decisions almost always need to be backed by data. This isn't always the case - but it's mostly the case, even with leadership. 3) Everything at Amazon revolves around one word: "Efficiency". If it's efficient by design, it's made to be more efficient. If not, it gets made that way eventually (looking at you OP1 :)). 4) There are very few sacred cows. Stuff that doesn't make money, adds value, hinders the company, quickly hits the chopping block. As it should. Amazon's not perfect - no company is, and Day 2 behavior is increasing. But it's nothing that Amazon can't fix. There are lots of instruction manuals and consulting services dedicated to replicating Amazon's enormous success. This small blueprint is free of charge. Hope it helps! #Amazon #leadership #efficiency …see more

Rough times and tough problems? We have all been there. We all intuitively know that our attitude towards the problem is a critical factor in working through it. I don’t know why but I have this vivid memory of walking down the street as a kid with my older brother and my dad (who I saw once every couple of years). It had rained the night before and there were puddles in the gravel. I stomped in one and my dad told me to stop because I was making a mess. If I did it one more time I would be in trouble. I looked at him. I looked at the puddle. And then I jumped in anyway. And that’s been my life since. “Jumping in anyway.” Moral of the story? You decide. 😅 #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 …see more

Always lead with positivity. A couple months back, I received some feedback and at first I couldn’t tell why it had such an effect on me. Before telling me how I could improve, he purposefully pointed out the things I did well. He made it a point to make me feel like I had potential and brought value. Although I needed to make iterations, the way he presented it made me want to push myself harder. Leaders understand not only what the company needs to grow, but also what the employee needs to be inspired. …see more
Interrupted sleep is terrible! Interrupted sleep while being in a hospital can straightaway slow your recovery. Now an artificial intelligence based algorithm can help avoid that. Many patients get woken up at night or at dawn to have their blood pressure measured or blood tested. When all they should be doing is to rest. Researchers of this paper mean to avoid these unnecessary overnight monitoring, using a clinically based deep learning model. They’ve checked millions of data from a multi-hospital health system to train an algorithm that creates an early morning patient score: this shows who are those patients that really need to be woken up due to a risky condition. Their result? From 10,000 cases, the algorithm was wrong only 2 times. This is exactly the kind of clinical problem where we need to start A.I. research and implementation. This is so very convincing that it could enable the adoption of artificial intelligence in other areas as well. #deeplearning #research #hospitalcare #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence #machinelearning …see more

For many years now people have asked me how I got all these followers on here, built an audience, got a book deal and on TV, published 700 articles and all that good stuff.... as arrogant as this sounds. Being opinionated helped, luck plays a role, but far more of it was down to the skills, knowledge and advice from Adriana Stan After winning awards, working for top class publishers and helping many significant people make better decisions in business and become public/media personalities, she's now launching her own thing.
