For those asking, there are still some books left. Get 2 of my favorite books for cheaper than you can find anywhere else here -> http://bit.ly/2rmRxwB [Original post] Here’s what happened… I bought too many books… Usually that’s a good thing. This time it wasn’t. I bought 1,000’s copies of two of my favorite books ever written: Bold & The Essays of Warren Buffett. I was going to use them for something else, but it turns out I bought more than I needed. So now I want to give them to you for cheaper than you will find them anywhere else. Yes, I am selling them and I don’t ever do that here, but I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to get these great books for cheap… nearly 50% off what you will find them on Amazon for. And if you want, I will throw in some bonus stuff. There’s no catch, just a couple of books that I think you will love. http://bit.ly/2rmRxwB …see more

Help spread the words about your favorite non-profit organization by nominating them below. 🌹 Last month, I spoke with Max Friedman  from Givebutter  about giving. We both agreed that everyone can take a more active role in giving. Giving doesn't always mean donating a huge sum of money. Rather, giving can also be done through volunteering, using your platform and voice for good, and mentoring. In his #BeInfinity Weekly Challenge, Max challenged the community to go out and do an act of kindness, whether it's giving or volunteering your time.  To take part of the challenge, I committed to dedicating even more time with 1:1 mentorship. On top of that, I'd also like to offer the Zero to Infinity  podcast and LinkedIn as a platform for good.  To do that, I'd like to shine a spotlight on a few non-profits for the amazing work and causes that they're shepherding. 📣 The chosen non-profit orgs will be featured on the podcast over on iTunes and Google Play Music in a 15-30 sec mid-roll sponsor spot typically used for the show's partners. The non-profit orgs will also be featured on LinkedIn and our Facebook Group community.  Tag a non-profit that you're passionate about or involved in. Or tag someone you know who runs a non-profit org below. 🙂 …see more

A don't think many companies have a strong sense of what is "better" in the modern age. A better car may have access to far better servicing or be easier to buy online, not be faster. A better printer may be far easier to set up, not one with more capacity. A better TV may hang more tightly against a wall, or have a more intuitive menu, not have greater resolution. A better airline may have an app that allows you to change flights in seconds, not have free drinks. A better train service may be slower, but have better wifi. A better retailer may have less but better stuff for sale and more accurate sizing. A better payments layer may just be faster to use, not offer you points. A better airport hotel may have an app that shows where the shuttle bus is. All companies focus on themselves and what they have excelled at making. They seem entirely oblivious to consumers and their changed expectations and priorities. Product design , and even marketing propositions seem lazily based on what we assume to matter, but increasingly doesn't. We keep assuming it's a race to cheaper, more, faster, bigger.........often it's easier, more delightful, less choiceful etc etc …see more

It's strange how the entire business world is generally about selling time and expertise as specialisms when almost everyone really just wants solutions. I'm amazed so much of the world isn't "You've back issues, come to us and we'll sort it" or " Starting a small company, we'll take care of everything". "Getting Married, we'll do it all" Instead, even small things can involve speaking to 8 separate experts, often in a circular fashion, " Ohhh, I mean I design websites, but I can't do the SEO", 'Oh, I do SEO, which involves explaining the words to use, but I don't write copy, you need a copywriter" ad Infinium. I've always thought there would be a huge business opportunity setting up "tech stacks in a box" for small, medium, or " rapidly expanding " companies. Instead, using experts and specialists we end up with - More prone to bias - Less imagination - Inefficiencies in the interfaces between them - Inability to challenge conventions. - Unaware of external viewpoints and unable to provide holistic solutions When can we accept that for many things we don't need the depth we assume we need. Maybe in practise, rounded generalists are better even than teams of world class specialists. …see more

The big mistake with Digital Transformation is not realizing the depth it needs to go. Typical digital transformation is too superficial. It's taking physical artifacts and making the same things digital, not rethinking the whole system for the digital age and changing everything necessary. - If Plane Paper Tickets were the analogue world. - emailable Print a home boarding passing is digitalization, not transformation. - Mobile boarding passes you don't print, but scan from phone is deeper digitalization. - Digital transformation is getting your face scanned and the ticket being a permission in the cloud. It's about what you remove, what principles you rebuild around, what you subtract, not about the technology you add. Self scanning in grocery stores is adding, Amazon go is reduction. A hybrid electrical / combustion car is adding tech, a Tesla removes technology. If you like this, you will like my https://lnkd.in/dHEZTFv …see more

‪Quite a lot of people think both that “advertising is dead” and “brands are always going to be important” and I’m confused at how they reconcile that. ‬You can give some explanations, but not a lot of great ones.

We've got so much data in marketing & you can cut it and construct is so many ways, every stat you see either reflects an agenda or is a Rorschach test of how we see the world already and anything that doesn't support that view we ignore.

‪Generally speaking. The more you know about technology. The less you know about people. This is a problem, but helps define the opportunity.

I have found that once you can figure out distraction in one area of your life, there is a ripple effect in all areas of your life. It took me about 5 years to write my recently-released book, Indistractable. During those five years, my life has changed tremendously. When it comes to my work, I love to write, but I kept putting off this work that I love because I constantly got distracted. After writing this book and learning about distraction on a deeper level, I am writing more than ever. I have also experienced improvements in my health and in my relationships with my wife and daughter. Watch below and share your thoughts! 👇👇👇 #Indistractable #HumanBehavior #Health #Writing #Distraction …see more

Wow! The response to Indistractable has been truly amazing and humbling to witness. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to share what I’ve learned in over 5 years of research and writing with so many people. I am excited to see the book helping people to take control of their attention and choose their lives. I am endlessly thankful for all those who have already reached out to tell me how the book is already helping them. I’ll be giving several talks next week in San Francisco about the book. Find more details about the events at the links in the comments below 👇👇👇 Bring your curiosity and a copy of Indistractable. To understand Fortnite’s staying power with players, it’s important to understand the game’s Hooked Model. In my book, I describe Hooks as “experiences designed to connect the user’s problem with the company’s product with enough frequency to form a habit.” Here are the five steps of the Hooked Model: -External Trigger: Prompts us to action and tell us what to do next (invites to join friends in the game) -Internal Trigger: feelings we seek to escape (boredom, seeking connection) -Action: the simplest behavior is done in anticipation of a reward (accepting that invite) -Reward: relief from the “itch” of the trigger (variability within the game) -Investment: what the user puts into the product to improve with use ( customization and personalizations) Fortnite’s amazing success is no accident. #Fortnite #Hooked #InternalTrigger …see more

#Socialmedia notifications aren’t just robbing your time and #attention ; they’re also increasing your stress and anxiety.📲 Here’s why you should turn them off: You’ll start your day less anxious🧘‍♀️ Instead of starting your day with a sense of dread, you’ll feel calm and peaceful, knowing that you’re not allowing external forces to dictate your mood. It redirects your behavior to support conscious and intentional consumption🎯 When you reclaim your time as your own, you decide when you want to check and engage on social media. You’ll have uninterrupted blocks of time to do deep work⏰ When you protect your time, you’ll find it easier to have blocks of time to immerse yourself in deep work. You’ll be more productive and less busy✅ When you’re not scrolling through and checking notifications, you’ll have more time to do the things that matter most. You’ll be more present for others❤️ When your notifications are off, your attention won’t be compromised, and you’ll be more present for those that matter most. It reminds you of what’s truly urgent and important⚠️ With notifications off, you’ll realize that not everything requires an instant response, and not much is truly important and urgent. #leadership #career #timemanagement #productivity …see more

Who your audience is—and what they need to hear—might surprise you. The funny thing about communication is that even after you acknowledge that someone is always listening, you never know who "someone" might turn out to be. Or which of your messages will strike a chord with that person. It's easy for your communications to get lost in a sea of email. And you're constantly competing with a multitude of social media platforms and real-life conversations, so you never really know if something resonates. Until you do. Recently, and on several occasions, I was surprised to learn that my words had inspired a few folks and that I had a significant impact on their lives. While it pleased me immensely, these people were not who I would have thought were my audience, nor were the pieces they referenced what I necessarily considered my greatest work. It served as an important reminder: Words matter. Never underestimate the immense power of your words to connect with others. Someone is always listening and probably needs to hear your message, even if you (and they) might not realize it at the time. #communication #connection #leadership …see more

What if… You believed you could conquer the world? You gave yourself permission to be your awesome, authentic self? You stopped worrying about what other people might think? You courageously came out of the shadows? You followed your passion? You stepped out of your comfort zone and into growth? You took a chance? You believed in yourself and your abilities? You were unapologetically you? You took a deep breath and went for it? You said no to the negative things and people that no longer serve you? You said yes to the positive things and people who get you? You knew your true purpose? You weren’t entirely sure, but kept moving forward anyway? You had no regrets or failures, only life lessons? You allowed your curiosity to guide you to new experiences? You transformed into the person you always knew you could be? You embraced life’s infinite possibilities? You asked yourself, “What if?” And, what if… I told you it was okay to do all of the above to inspire you to leap even though you were scared and nervous about taking that first step? Would you? I hope so. Never forget that you are the author of your story; write one that makes you happy. (Consider this your encouraging nudge.) #career #growth #motivation …see more

“Simplicity in the struggle and complexity in the success” I am continually amazed at how some of the most "successful" founders still deal with imposter syndrome. After volunteering at a Second Time Founders event a while back, I met founders with $10 million+ exits speak openly about the crippling pressure. "I constantly feel the need to protect my flaws to keep investors, customers, and other stakeholders believing in me and my company. I feel like I could never publicly fail." What do you think? Is it just an inevitable part of starting a company? #founder #founderstories #entrepreneurship …see more
