In 1958, James McKay wrote the first book on time management. Since then time management mantra as a tool to productivity has made in-roads in B-schools and corporates widely. Here are some commonly prescribed Time Management techniques: Know your goals, Prioritize wisely, Just say no, Plan Ahead, Delegate often and others. Nobel Prize-winning economist, Herbert Simon says, “What information consumes is rather obvious. It consumes the attention of its recipients. Hence a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention.” The next generation of productivity enhancement can only come from creating Attention Management. Here is a TedTalk on the topic that I found very useful. In the 18th century, Henry Thoreau captured attention management, best in his saying 'It is not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is what are we busy about?' https://lnkd.in/fNFSrpx …see more

Geeking out with @Lenovo at #CES2020 I had the rare chance to spend time with Lenovo's senior executives to talk about their new global mission: "Smarter Technology For All." With Kevin Beck , he went behind the scenes on the development of the ThinkPad X1 Fold. The foldable PC took 4 years to create because they had to develop it from scratch. Typically Lenovo's development process takes 18 months. Dilip Bhatia shares the process of customer success and how important feedback is. Bhaskar Choudhuri shares the marketing vision and how they plan to roll out the new mission to over 6 different markets. Finally, gaming is growing rapidly around the world, and Lenovo's gaming department, Legion has announced a global partnership with APEX Legends. Ian Tan and Peter Yeung share their perspective on the world's appetite for gaming. It's not a kid's game longer and it's becoming more mainstream. #stringstory at #LenovoCES Thanks Lenovo Australia and New Zealand for setting up the meetings. …see more

It’s not how you start; it’s how you finish. I’ve said this countless times to our girls, especially when they have a rough start in class or a game. But lately, I’ve been uttering it to myself. Aside from the sheer awfulness of COVID-19, there’s so much negativity and bad news. I’ll be honest, it sucks. I’ve found it hard to focus, my sleeping has suffered, and my motivation and creativity have been severely challenged. I’m also way more sensitive than usual (which is saying a lot), so even the petty and unfair digs I’ve learned to ignore have found a way to creep back in and leave an invisible scar. As someone known as a “glowing ball of happiness” who frequently writes about emotional intelligence, mindset, and positivity, I know (logically) that I have a choice. But sometimes, I need a reminder. (And maybe you do, too.) I truly believe that there is far more goodness, light, encouragement, support, and love in the world than evil, darkness, negativity, and hatred. Focusing on the former helps us generate more of it. From a kind word to a selfless act, you have the power to improve someone’s day, week, life. So let’s turn this around. Because it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. Let’s finish strong together. #positivity #perspective #mindset …see more

I've been in touch with the A.I. group of the American Medical Association to give feedback on the guide they released. Wonderful job! I wish every medical association would follow AMA's lead (also think about the Digital Health Playbook they made available). The strong points which I have never seen any medical association address properly before: - the concept of "explainable A.I." is brilliant - the levels of A.I. are clearly explained - the need for an A.I. policy and the approach of constantly refining this policy are crucial - the clear definition of augmented intelligence I further recommended addressing how different approaches deep and reinforcement learning require compared to pure machine learning; the essential role of data annotators and why there will be no A.I. without them; and the ultimate experience would be a course based on the Finnish example ( elementsofai.com ). Kudos to the AMA! #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence #chess #deeplearning #machinelearning #TMFchessjourney …see more

I live in digital health day and night. When I get an invitation to give a keynote, I paykage my vision about the future of healthcare and our research we do at The Medical Futurist Institute into spectacular narratives. While it takes months and a dedicated team to turn abstract thoughts into a digestible narrative, I choose to do it because people can relate to stories better than to predictions. My experience is that the better the keynote narrative is, the more challenging questions I receive. If you have such questions about the future and digital health, please share it here. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #speaker #keynote #speakerlife …see more

Three possible reactions for Federal Reserve officials considering further policy stimulus: No worries, inflationary expectations are still below 2%; No worries, they also have lots of lost ground to make up; and Worry because this is happening in the context of depressed demand. I suspect 1 and 2 will prevail. #Fed #centralbanks #economy #markets #Bloomberg #inflation …see more

Good morning. Bloomberg Economics Rich Miller on the worrisome long-term prospects for the economy post the anticipated post COVID-19 lockdown: https://lnkd.in/eCVQGvn The risk is that we repeat the mistake of the 2008 crisis of winning the war against a global depression but end up failing to secure a peace of high, inclusive and sustainable growth. On today's oil market moves Beyond wild price moves, what happens when large imbalances in the physical and financial markets for oil feed on themselves? Much higher risks of Bankruptcies for small producers, Job losses, Defaults (corporate and sovereign), and Negative economic/financial spillover. And, as noted early this morning, no positive consumer impact to offset any of this. #markets #economy #oil #energy …see more

Boeing had issues with the 737Max because it was too expensive and would take too long to design the entire airframe from scratch again. It would mean a whole new plane, new certification, new training for pilots. They figured out that the much larger engines , which would get the improvements they needed in efficiency ( after being slow to respond to airbus) could just about work on the same airframe. They’d place them further forward and higher up, and while the plane wouldn’t be able to fly or glide naturally, they’d write some software to keep it in the air. There is a big difference with a plane that is easier to fly, that is aided by software and one that can’t fly unless software is constantly working to keep the thing airborne. There are few short cuts when it comes to profound transformation. Sticking new things on rarely works anywhere except shareholder presentations and for a short period of time. …see more

"For the non-vulnerable population, coronavirus carries no more risk than a "nasty flu" " Prof Mark Woolhouse For the love of god, please can we have some more reporting like this from the BBC before we harm BILLIONS of lives irrevocably.
