My wife veto'd it, but it doesn't mean you can't have one. (One of) Elon Musk's companies just announced a flamethrower that they're only making 20k of for $500.  Not only are they super adorable, I'd imagine they will become collector's items once Elon becomes our overlord.  I'm imagining how much fun I could have, using it to: -Light fireworks off -Weed the garden -Light the grill -Etc Pick one up before my wife convinces your significant other:   https://lnkd.in/dj24BwX …see more

We’re all mirrors. What you reflect is what you project; make sure it’s what you’d want others—and yourself—to see. Here’s how: Be mindful of what you’re projecting When tensions are high, exhibiting frustration & negativity won’t lessen the stress. Instead, intentionally demonstrate a calm, positive, solution-oriented presence. Help others see the good Most are harder on themselves than any other person could be. Help them see themselves the way you do, highlighting their strengths & accomplishments. Use 10x magnification wisely Leaders who can make visible parts of ourselves we can’t see challenge us to proactively address any underlying fears or issues, leading to our continued growth. Connect the dots between ‘show & tell’ When there’s a discrepancy between what you see vs. what you’ve been told, bring iit to your team’s attention in a helpful way to help them get back on track. Foster deeper connection “Mirroring” refers to adopting another person’s body language. This signals that they matter & that we’re in agreement with their ideas, helping us foster deeper connection. Reveal what’s possible Look beyond the status quo to see potential in others, revealing that they’re capable of great things even when they can’t see it for themselves. #leadership #career …see more

Sometimes I feel that I might be in the silent majority of people who actually miss the office. Prior to the pandemic, I got to see the founders in our accelerator every day at the office. While I still talk to the founders often, I don’t see myself working from home forever. Whether it’s at a smaller office or a coworking space, I think that running into founders IRL will always be something I hope for, and I’m excited to see what the future of coworking spaces looks like. I used to reject the idea of using Instagram for my #personalbrand. Growing up, I was your classic nerd: shy, big black glasses, acne, etc... I pretty much left the platform thinking that it was meant for the models on the beach and silly memes. I've now seen people from so many backgrounds use it to their advantage... 1️⃣Entrepreneurs 2️⃣Thought Leaders 3️⃣Writers 4️⃣Job Seekers Brittany Krystle Hoffman  is one woman who has shown me how to really leverage the platform to her advantage. Next week, Brittany and I will be speaking in #LosAngeles at #insocal on our favorite platforms and how to make them work for you and your brand. Details in the comments. …see more

Most notable on our walk: Very few people wearing masks despite California being among the hardest hit states currently; Local and State mask mandates; and Another record for US daily infections. The problem is a mix of inconsistent messaging, information failures, misaligned risk assessments and irresponsible behavior. Meanwhile, on the beach, pockets of too little social distancing. #california #masks #socialdistancing #wearamask …see more

BE CLEAR ON THE GOAL AND OPEN ON THE PATH To delegate effectively, follow the advice of achievement guru Steven Covey: be clear on the goal and open on the path. Clearly define the specific goal or outcome and then let your teammate determine how they will achieve the goal.

If you lack the human resources in your organization to complete the work, think outside the box. Can a temporary worker take on a task that has been bottlenecking your progress? Can you outsource some of the work to a virtual assistant—an online assistant, working remotely, who can handle specific assignments on either a per-task or hourly basis, thereby saving you the costs of a part-time or full-time employee? Can you partner with another division or department of your company—or even with an outside firm— and split the cost for a project that will benefit both organizations? …see more

What people get wrong is thinking business disruption was about technology when it's always been about ASSUMPTIONS. Disruption theory always focussed on how emerging technology allowed new threats to appear and assumed it was "tech-driven". It was really how a mindset that resisted the imagination to think in different ways. It was the psychology of loss aversion meaning changing felt like failure. It was that expertise was invested in the ways from the past. A business case for change is impossible until too late. Disruption is about challenging assumed constraints. It could be Dick Fosbury leaping higher with the Fosbury Flop, Dyson not being afraid to make vastly more expensive Vaccums, Tesla rethinking the potential of electric propulsion, Apple realizing it's about how it feels to use a device, not what it can functionally do. It could even by Bryson DeChambeau , a pro golfer that fails to accept that hitting the fairway is the only way to win, and instead smashes it as far as possible. What unchallenged assumptions are holding you back? …see more

I'd love Voice to be the layer that sits on top of all the computer programs we have to use. We're in this middle era where we still toggle between email and calendar and contacts and spreadsheets. The same way Web 2.0 was really about a connected world, when do we get computers that handle the complexity of programs in the background for us. I just want to say " reply to Jane and John, tell them I can make 5pm at the Foundry on the 25th, book a meeting room for 30 mins, get me a taxi from my office to it, expense everything to client Y, share my plans and real time location with all, tell the team this is happening and invite all AD's and share agenda P in the invite" A lot would then autofill and auto-decide. There is nothing individually complex about this so long as systems were set to work like this. But alas no, system designed around the system, not around use cases. …see more

Dear President Trump, sometimes people come from poor, “shithole” countries (pardon my language) and then they work really hard to give their families an opportunity to pursue the American Dream - they send their children to top universities and medical schools and law schools, instill strong values and morals in them, encourage them to give back to their community and serve in their churches, and teach them to treat people with love and kindness, whether they’re a janitor or the President of the United States, because they understand that no matter what you look like, or what color you are, or what country your family is from, where you started is no indication of where you’re headed. But I forgive you - because maybe you didn’t have parents who taught you any of that 🤷🏾‍♀️ #Haitianandproud #Shareyourstory …see more
