In a meeting, “You’re kinda turning into everyone’s hype man, Natalie.” I’ve never been so flattered. If I can hype up my coworkers so they feel proud of their work, I absolutely will. Plus, they’re pretty awesome people regardless. …see more

It feels like the first day of school today! Every new start is always refreshing, exciting, and to some extend nerve racking (in a good way). With any new start, there are a lot of unknowns, new people, new interactions, new opportunities and challenges, new things to learn and new impacts to have. With all that I’m stepping into a new role that I’m super pumped about. Wish me luck!

Let's talk about the 🐘 in the room: 2021! We're approaching the end of 2020, yet we're far from seeing the end of the pandemic that ruled (and ruined) this year. Every day, hundreds of thousands of new coronavirus cases are reported. The WHO announces record one-day rises, while people again experience difficulties to comply with the strict safety measures. We're all eager for this nightmare to stop, but will it ever? How long till we need to keep masks on and stay away from grandma? After this dystopian year of 2020, what can we expect from the new year? I've designed 3 scenarios to help you prepare for 2021. 🧚 the fairy tale ✌️ the optimistic 😫 the pessimistic #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus #2021 #futurescenarios …see more

A smart smartphone case working as a medical sensor. I was skeptic when I got the device for testing because there are so many different sizes of smartphones out there that developing a one size case just doesn't seem to be a good idea. I published the review and investors contacted me personally sharing how unhappy they were with my verdict. The argument they used was how can I share a negative review about a technology that was checked by the FDA. My response was that the FDA doesn't have to look at patient needs or user friendliness. I do. https://lnkd.in/g9h9mPS "I attach the cover to the back of my smartphone, download the app and can use different parts of the case to measure the vital signs such as body temperature, heart rate, ECG or blood oxygen levels. So far, my experience with it is that it measures these fast and it's easy to access the data on the app. Some parameters such as blood pressure or blood glucose level require a third party device but that's fairly obvious. A rough start for US stocks has gotten worse with the Dow now down 5.5% (1,500), the S&P (4.6%) and the NASDAQ 4%. Particularly striking: The moves in what recently became highly speculative stocks --e.g., Hertz's 17% drop in the context of the one month price range (chart below). #stocks #markets #stockmarket #stockmarket #equities #investing #nasdaq #trading #dow #bonds #economy #investmentmanagement #assetallocation …see more

The sooner we realize Social Networks are far better as places to listen, rather than broadcast, the better. We seem to think it's a place to argue when it should be a place to debate. Perhaps this shouldn't be a place to show off, but a place to learn. This is a better place to pose questions, than promote viewpoints. It's a good place not to be supported, but challenged, being wrong means you learn. Almost all posts I do are either questions, or statements like this, not designed to get likes, but designed to spur comments and debate. On a bad day this gets called contrarianism, or "Trolling" Trolls write to offend and get engagement, Contrarians poke to get noticed and build a brand. I'd like to think I'm just here to spark interesting conversations we can learn from and use to open our minds. …see more

I do get confused about how many scientists were saying months ago that we were all going to get Covid and that was just how life was. There were many pieces like this. Since then we’ve found out that it’s far far less deadly than we feared. It’s a bit less contagious, and it spares the young miraculously. We know more about who to focus the most on protecting. We’ve all lost any perspective. We’ve stopped caring about hundreds of thousands of cancer deaths, suicides, beaten children, or millions of deaths from poverty and famine because “ the cure can’t be worst than the disease” was for some reason seen to be disrespectful to those who died, not to those we’ve ended up killing or ruining the lives of …see more

It's going to be fascinating to see how the gradual shift of the entire world to follow Sweden's path will be reported on and explained by Politicians and the press, and perceived by people. Maybe we've entered the World's largest most destructive dead end by Politicians not thinking about we'd ever get out of it. Flatten the curve made sense to buy time, but nobody thought about what happened then. How will the move to the inevitable pain of normal be covered by the Press? What happens IF every nation ends up in the same place? What if we looked at countries who "won" as those with the most vulnerability ahead? What would have happened if this had been discovered in a non totalitarian regime first? What if the real race was to immunity with the least damage, not to stop it. What if the 15,000 lines of code in models were less helpful than older balanced people with broad knowledge and wisdom having hunches? …see more

Increasingly I feel that the idea we had a global economic crisis in 2007 and we never swallowed any medicine, or learned, or listened, or prosecuted anyone, or changed anything not only explains much of the current mess in the world, but also has created a time bomb still yet to really go off. We seemed to go through a pivot where everything would be different but printed money and we “denialed” ourselves into growth for 10 years and pretended it never happened. What if this created a sickness which lay dormant for years and slowly manifested itself into wildly different movements that we’re only at the early stages of seeing. …see more

It's weird that any business is done via mail and not email. The IRS insists of sending me letters which wastes time, money, resources and is significantly less secure and then appears to lose my replies via mail.

I slipped a note into my #gratitudejar this morning, thanking my mother Eloise Jones for modeling strength, courage and sheer will for me. I think it’s why I’ve been able to embrace the extraordinary adventures and opportunities life has tossed at me—while surviving the crushing blows and defeats. So it’s fitting that I’m sitting at Gate A10 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport now, awaiting the first leg of another long journey. I’m also grateful that in this 400th anniversary of the first African’s presence in this country, I’m about to spend most of #BlackHistoryMonth2019 on the African continent. I’m listening to #Homegoing by #YaaGyasi on Audible, Inc. now. It’s giving me chills. Can’t wait to see what this journey holds. #Africa #Mamaland #gratitude #BlackHistory #AfricanAmericans #AfricanAmericanHistory #queeninthequeencity 👑 #TheAncestors …see more

Only by setting aside specific times in our schedules for traction can we turn our backs on distraction. To decide what to do with your time, start with your values. Values are attributes of the person you want to become. From there, you must turn your values into time. It’s not good enough to just list out the things that are important to you. If it’s not on your calendar, chances are, you’re not going to ensure you live out those values. This is why we must schedule time in our days for our values. Have you lived up to your values recently? #Indistractable #Scheduling #Calendar #Planning #Growth #Leadership …see more

Habits are like pearls. Oysters create natural pearls by accumulating layer upon layer of something called mother-of-pearl, eventually forming the smooth treasure over several years. What causes the pearl to begin forming? The arrival of a tiny irritant, such as a piece of grit. This triggers the oyster’s system to begin blanketing the invader with layers of shiny coating. Similarly, new habits need a foundation upon which to be built. Triggers provide the basis for sustained behavioral change, as shown in the Hooked Model below. Both internal and external triggers already exist in your daily life, whether in the obvious form of a morning alarm clock or in the more subtle form of emotional signals within us. Triggers are the actuators of behavior, whether we are cognizant of them or not. They move us to take action. Habits are not created… they are built upon. #InternalTriggers #HookedModel #BehaviorChange #HabitForming …see more
