A few years ago, Google went on a mission: Discover how to build the perfect team. The study was code-named "Project Aristotle," a tribute to the famous philosopher's belief that it's possible to have a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. . After poring through the data, the researchers clearly ranked one factor as most important: Psychological safety. Google describes it this way: "In a team with high psychological safety, teammates feel safe to take risks around their team members. They feel confident that no one on the team will embarrass or punish anyone else for admitting a mistake, asking a question, or offering a new idea." In other words, Google discovered that for teams to work well together, team members must feel comfortable enough to be themselves. Then, and only then, can they contribute to their full potential. How can you apply these learnings to your workplace? When you move home, lose a credit card, change phone number etc, you realize how strange it is that your information is stored on so many sites and you have to manage. Amazed there is no "bank" that acts as a personal data storage. One place to keep all personal information. You then allow the myriad of companies you are a customer of to pull into one place to withdraw what they need. I'm sure this is a much touted blockchain scenario, but just a secure database with permission set by company type would be fine. …see more
IDEA SLAM. If you are in NYC on Thursday evening and have interesting thoughts to share to a group, for 5-15 mins, please let me know. Think of it as open mic night for thoughts, or poetry slamming for theories, or battle of the bands without the battle or bands. The crowd will be curious folk, many of which I hope will contribute. You can use slides or nothing. But no selling companies, just your thoughts. Also looking for anyone and everyone to come and attend for free. It's an open group for anyone nice, interesting and curious. …see more
I would love to connect with all brands and companies via IM, but I don't ever want to be served by a Bot. Please don't conflate the two. One is aiding people one on one, on a platform they love to use. The other is thinking customer service or sales is an expense not an investment.
I can't stop laughing at Elsa Majimbo's videos!!! This 19-year-old Kenyan college student has used the #COVID19 lockdown period to quantify and sharpen her comedic gift, and she is becoming famous for it. Read this profile of her from The Guardian for PhD level insights on how to turn lemons into lemonade. Elsa's #creativity is wonderful, and her ultimate message to me is that being authentic and confident--being YOURSELF--is a treasure worth more than gold. #Africa #comedy #videos #Kenya #innovation #authenticity #talent …see more

COVID-19 has shown me how much time I really have. 👇🏽 I think Nicholas said it best yesterday, "Are you spending 10 hours on something that will provide you incremental returns? Or are you spending 10 hours filling a hole in your business that could take you to the next level?" It's like learning to play the guitar. A lot of people out there have played guitar (or another instrument) for half their lives but only really know the basics. Whereas some people can pick up the instrument and they turn out to be incredible in a few years. It's because practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. You have to put in the right inputs to get the desired outputs. If you only have an hour to put into your craft, that's okay. An hour can go a long way. Years ago, when our girls were younger, I always tucked a “napkin note” into their lunches, a short message scribbled on a napkin, designed to brighten their day at school and to remind them how much I loved them. Around the same time, a favorite book of our then seven-year-old daughter was “The Kissing Hand.” For those unfamiliar, “The Kissing Hand” tells the story of Chester Raccoon, who is a little anxious about heading into school. To ease his fears, his mom, Mrs. Racoon, shares a family secret called the Kissing Hand to reassure him of her love any time his world feels a little scary. She takes his hand and places a tender kiss in his palm, then gently closes his fingers around it so he won’t lose it. Recently, I discovered a photo of an old napkin note from my daughter to me, which read: “Have a good day, Mommy. If you have a bad day, remember that I did the Kissing Hand on your palm. :)” That small and surprising gesture made me smile, ensured I’d have a better day, and demonstrated a universal truth: words have power. Be intentional with your communication and be kind with your words. Use them to uplift and encourage rather than criticize or demean. Remember, you always have a choice in how you use them; choose wisely. #communication #kindness #career …see more
WORDS MATTER. They can inspire 🙂 or harm.😞 They can propel us forward 🚀 or hold us back. 🔙 They have the power to support, uplift, and unify,❤️ or destroy, denigrate, or divide. ❌ When you use your words with intention, you signal to others and help them understand who you are and what matters most.🎯 Never underestimate the immense power of your words.💥 Choose wisely. ✅ #communication #connection #leadership #IlluminateMe …see more
Recently, LinkedIn released its annual Global Talent Trends report for 2020, which explores the big trends fueling the #futureofwork . Underlying all four trends is a key theme that will change the way you hire and retain #talent : empathy. Here’s how #empathy factors into the year’s top trends: 1️⃣ Employee experience #HR teams are going all-in on #employeeexperience to attract and retain talent, mapping and making manageable an employee’s whole journey, regularly collecting feedback, and actively collaborating with employees to create an experience that works for all. 2️⃣ People analytics With the proliferation and ease of accessing people analytics, companies will focus on better understanding and capitalizing on human behavior, a must-have skill in HR. 3️⃣ Internal recruiting Talent professionals are rediscovering a key talent pool: their own people. With an increase in role changes within organizations and workplace learning to help build skills internally, there’s less need to import talent from elsewhere. 4️⃣ Multigenerational workforce To attract and retain Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, Millennials, and now Gen Z workers, companies are eliminating generational bickering among age-diverse teams by creating conditions that encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange. …see more
I’ve learned a few things about #content : Just because you write something doesn’t make it valuable to someone else; it’s up to the reader to decide. If you only use your content to sell, you’ll turn people off. Instead, strive to be of service. If you go on and on, meandering your way through a very long post with little punctuation, run-on sentences, and no clear point, you’ll lose people. If a reader takes the time to like, comment, and share your stuff, make sure to acknowledge their kindness. And on that note, be sure to like, comment and share other people’s content that you think your network would find valuable. If it resonated with you, it probably will with others. The best way to discover interesting and valuable content is to read — a lot. Follow people whose writing you admire, whether in your industry or not, and seek many sources of information, even if it makes you uncomfortable. You never know what you’ll learn and from whom. Be open. Content can inform, entertain, persuade, or inspire. Choose wisely. Be yourself. Write the way you speak. And be consistent — in your creation, your voice, your sharing, your engagement. Because my biggest takeaway is this: Content may be king, but content comes from people. And people connect with people. …see more

After graduating last week, I've decided to give my Linkedin content a revamp. It starts with my "Why". After reading through all of my past articles, I want to dive into issues that have pushed me to publish in the first place. I'm starting with women in #leadership and advisory positions. I haven't written an in-depth article in quite some time, but I am starting with women on advisory boards and wanted to reach out to the Linkedin community for potential interviewees! If you are a woman on an advisory board or know of one, please leave a comment so I can potentially reach out for the article! #advisoryboards #womenleaders #womenonlinkedin …see more
Here is the scientific consensus about COVID-19 as of today. All these statements are supported by scientific evidence. 1) The infection fatality rate of COVID is several-fold higher than that of influenza. 2) There is no evidence for lasting protective immunity after getting the virus. 3) The virus is capable of re-infecting people. 4) Transmission of the virus can me mitigated by social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing masks. 5) The way many countries handled the first wave led to widespread demoralisation and diminishing trust. 6) Herd immunity is still unsupported by scientific evidence. 7) Countries like Japan, Vietnam and New Zealand, have shown that robust public health responses can control transmission allowing life to return to near-normal. #covid19 #covid #healthcare …see more
