The rule is simple: When faced with a challenging question, instead of answering, you pause and think deeply about how you want to answer. But make no mistake, this is no short pause. A brief reflection on my recent conference run. I left these two Forbes summits with new perspectives for entrepreneurship and the traditional career path. While one conference boasted 6,000 millennials, the other hosted 100 CMOs & executives. At the U30 Summit, it was inspiring to see the drive my cohort had for embracing risks to create impact & change. At the CMO Summit, it was humbling to see at the executive level, there was immense interest for giving back and developing the next generation of young talents. I’m there to meet Charles Johnson IV, the “Cool Dad” of two adorable little Batmen, 4-year-old Charles Spurgeon Johnson V, and 2-year-old Langston. I shouldn’t be taking this picture. Their beautiful wife and mother Kira Johnson should be. But Kira died hours after giving birth to Langston, on April 13, 2016. Johnson has dedicated the rest of his life to advocating for safer pregnancies, deliveries and motherhood for women, because the vibrant, force-of nature mother who drove race cars and earned her pilot’s license and spoke 5 languages didn’t have to die.
