The expression “if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together” always feels rather nice. It’s just the reality is that consensus often means going far in the wrong direction, or not moving at all but feeling better about it. I’m not a fan of terrifying sociopaths that we also celebrate, but if only there was a way to marry a clear vision, the right amount of unreasonable, audacious goals, imagination driven leaps of faith with no data behind them with people aligned and inspired around a cause. Consensus is often the manifestation of the status quo, it’s the mean of everything, it’s the “majority viable product”*. It’s not helping when we workship it. *this just came to me. True story!  This just happened...  A little old lady walked into our firm.  She said she looked in the phone book for 4 CPA's and tried calling and 3 are out of business.   The 4th told her to call back after Sept 15th.   I didn't know anyone still used a phone-book?     She must have been at the doctor's office down the hall and so she stopped in.    All of our business comes from the internet or referrals.  Her prior accountant recently died and she needs help selling her Chicago Real Estate and a plan.  We do wealth management & financial  planning, there is a significant amount of work here.    She asked, "Is this a female firm?"  Our admin replied YES and I'm proud!  The prospect smiled.   She was so cute!!  Even if she never comes back, that 80+ little old lady made my day!    #business   #accounting   #tax   #radicalcpa   #financialplanning   #women …see more

Last year, Peter Kuhar , founder of Azumio Inc. , reached out to me with some preliminary data showing Type 2 diabetes detection with just a smartphone. Now Nature Medicine published their study. To me, it shows how to turn a promise into a proof, also giving a boost to digital biomarkers. I had a quick chat with him. - Can you please summarize the findings of your study? We've developed an algorithm that can detect diabetes using heart pulse recorded by a smartphone camera. Enabling an early detection of Type 2 diabetes with just a smartphone. - How do you expect the field of biomarkers to change based on studies like yours? Digital biomarkers are easy and low cost to measure and have a potential to allow early detection of diseases that would otherwise not be possible. One of the main problems with Type 2 diabetes is late diagnosis. Our algorithm will help catch this chronic disease faster. - Do you think that the hardware of a general smartphone would be enough to add insights to diabetes management? Absolutely.
