I like the sentiment but it might be a bit Pollyannish in today's world ...sure hate does not drive--it feeds hate. Toxicity without an anecdote also kills the host... but love without action-whether political, policy, letter writing, attending rallies, VOTING--is needed to drive out hate. Love AND action, in my opinion, drive out hate. …see more
I mentioned at the beginning of September that I needed a new challenge and I thought September was the perfect time to start one so I decided to remove an element of my life that I like but is not healthy: alcohol. About 50 people have joined me in this journey, some of them also abandoning alcohol, others stopped smoking or drinking energy drinks for a month. It has become a community project. It's been a hell of a ride and I think we might keep this good habit as the year goes along. If anytime you decide to start a similar health project, I'm here to offer my emotional support. #healthSeptember #health #healthy …see more
The Wall Street Journal on early data out of Asia and Europe providing "an early look at the tough climb facing the world economy." This initial set of numbers supports the notion that, rather than a "V", the economic recovery globally will look more like a square root sign/check mark. #economy #growth #asia #europe #wsj …see more
Here's a simple way to illustrate the recent contrast between... Range bound 10-year yields for US government bonds and The fluctuations in stocks. Trump is 74 years old. He is obese, but otherwise doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, has the best healthcare in the world. The percentages will tell you he's unlikely to need to go to the ICU, but it's a real possibility. #QuickTake GZERO Media https://lnkd.in/dftHSxM …see more

Meditation is a great way to recharge your mind and body. After you’re hydrated, spend some time quietly meditating. It creates a positive state of mind that will keep you motivated throughout the day. Because it reduces stress and anxiety, meditation is an easy way to improve your mental health. Thanks for the feature leading to the launch of Blue App , Business Insider and Shana Lebowitz ! 🙂 📸 The clock is ticking as we're preparing to publish Blue on the App Store and Google Play Store very very soon! Blue was started to reimagine how young people meet and date. We met with both existing users of dating apps and those who have never used them. What young people wanted: meaningful compatibility, better discovery, authenticity, real time conversations, safety, and community. I'm very pleased to share our latest report from the Future of Asia series, produced in collaboration with the McKinsey Global Institute: "Asian flows and networks are defining the next phase of globalization." According to MGI's research, Asia is increasingly the center of the world economy. By 2040, the region could account for more than half of global GDP and about 40 percent of global consumption. Global cross-border flows are shifting towards Asia on seven of eight dimensions: trade, capital, people, knowledge, transport, culture, resources, and the environment. The only flow that has declined is waste (environment). (For a free 79-page PDF of the report, please click "like" underneath this video and leave a comment, "Please share the report." If we are already connected on LinkedIn, I'll forward a copy to you. If we are not yet connected, please send a connection request so I can send the report to you.) #FutureofAsia #Asia #China #economy #investment #trade …see more
It’s quite easy to decide to leave NYC or San Fran, it’s a lot harder to then know where to go. Unlike the Olympics or Amazon HQ2, cities have made remarkably little effort to attract interest. Lots of talk about Austin being the city that tech people are flocking to, and Miami being where Finance people head to, but what about those in culture or liberal arts ? Where should Architects, advertising folk, journalists, TV people, musicians, film makers, designers , writers go ? Personally, I’d head to Miami: warm weather works wonders for creativity, it’s a place with the palpable energy release from many cultures. It’s got the calmness from the ocean and pervasive friendliness. A wide array of direct flights to amazing tropical places. It’s a place with optimism for the future and an audacious confidence in what can be built here. Or choose Austin because of barbecue food..... …see more
The Silicon Valley obsession with "Inbox zero" is all wrong, it should be accomplishment maximization Be held to account by what you are trying to accomplish not by your inbox. Rory Sutherland calls emails " A things to list that anyone can add to", he's right. It's easier as you get more senior, but the more you can spend your time proactively, directly making things happen, the more you're able to not feel vulnerable in the cult of email. A lot of 2020 feels like gamification of work, meetings, email and other discrete numbers we obsess over. It's often progress that doesn't matter, but that has a hardness, specificity, and objectivity to it. Get comfortable with vague feelings of progress towards something meaningful. If there were going to be numbers that mattered it should be how many decisions you've made, or how many things you've said no to. …see more
I don't know anyone can write for printed publications anymore. My pieces here typically get 300 comments and I love the debate it brings about and listening to (most!) feedback.
There is no one guaranteed path to success, in fact, there are no guarantees at all. In fact, the most successful entrepreneurs I know today didn't go to fancy schools. Some didn't go to college at all, others went to schools they could afford and worked very hard to make it a valuable experience. …see more
This is a story about a King who went from a classroom to a TV studio in less than two weeks. In mid-February, Dr. Luther King Abia Akebe . a microbiologist at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pretoria, #SouthAfrica , was one of 24 New Voices Fellows with The Aspen Institute who spent a week receiving writing and public speaking training related to the issues they are most passionate about. The fellowship is designed to shift the narrative around #globaldevelopment issues, to ensure that the messages come from a broader range of messengers. Dr. Akebe's vision is clear: he wants to see an #Africa that fully embraces the power of #scientificresearch to respond to urgent #publichealth challenges like #cholera , #NTDS and, of course, #coronavirus . Less than two weeks later, Dr. Akebe found himself in a DStv eNCA studio discussing the need to further understand the role of the environment in the spread of coronavirus. Talk about impact. Talk about expertise. Talk about shifting narratives. #AspenNewVoices is creating more seats at the global conversation table every day. My week in New York City yielded some powerful lessons as I navigated through United Nations General Assembly side events. The one I'll remember most: Always, ALWAYS be ready to #network . Always have your business cards handy in those settings. Always have something to say. Always be alert and interested. That’s why I was able to have a brief chat with Toyin Saraki , the Nigerian philanthropist who’s Founder and President of The Wellbeing Foundation Africa . I’ve followed her on LinkedIn for quite some time, and it was such an incredible opportunity to meet her in person. But I also earned a PhD in "Carpe Diem" by watching Andre Chow seize the opportunity to network with World Health Organization Director General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus. Chow, the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of the UK-based THE DIGITAL SURGERY LIMITED company, had his tablet fired up and ready to display the latest #AI offering from Digital Surgery to a visibly impressed Dr. Tedros. I don't often quote rappers in my social media posts, but when I do, you better listen: "You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow." Like Eminem says, Stay ready. When Opportunity knocks, you better never let it go. #networking #opportunityrecognition #seizethemoment #goforit …see more
