This is simply heartbreaking. I have a huge respect for Lee Sedol, not only one of the best Go players of all time, but also the one who accepted the challenge from Deepmind to play against AlphaGo not so long ago. He got beaten and it was a huge milestone in the history of artificial intelligence but his retirement from professional go comes as a surprise. Thinking about loud here. Is this what we can expect to see in medicine too? When the first advanced algorithms using reinforcement learning start coming up with cures and new treatments without explanation, professors will just retire to avoid embarrassment? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence #chess #deeplearning #machinelearning #TMFchessjourney …see more

Did you know that Star Trek original series ended exactly 50 years ago? Yet, the famous medical tricorder from the series - the device diagnosing every disease instantly - still couldn't be implemented. Viatom CheckMe Pro is one of the aspirants which could get the closest to making science fiction a reality - it functions as a sleep tracker, records your ECG, measures blood oxygen saturation, counts the steps you take and so on. Though it aims to serve both as a health sensor/fitness tracker and a medical device, I would rather recommend it to medical professionals. Would you be happy with a device measuring so many things all-in-one? Here we also summarized our experience with the device: https://lnkd.in/g7uBgN7 #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #wearable #health #healthy #fromchancetochoice …see more

I've been testing digital health sensors for almost a decade. The range is getting wider, the features are getting better and the price is getting lower. Still, most people don't use anything to make sure they live a physically active and healthy life. If you don't use any sensors, can you please explain why? #technology   #digitalhealth   #health   #fromchancetochoice …see more

An interesting week on store for the global economy and markets as national economies continue their re-opening process and different segments react to Friday’s jobs report, including the US Federal Reserve which holds an FOMC meeting (see earlier post). Also worth keeping an eye on data, movements in the US yield curve, and the depth of the rotation trade in stocks. #markets #stocks #equities #federalreserve #investing #stockmarket #assetallocation #fed #investmentmanagement #centralbanks #economy …see more

Here's what the revised Q-1 US GDP contraction looks like in the context of recent economic history. The Q-2 number, likely to be in the minus 30-40% range, will involve yet another re-scaling of a y axis for an economic series in this COVID-19 world. #economy #markets #growth #covid #covid19 …see more

In the last few weeks, US stocks have risen in reaction to key jobless claims that have been BOTH much worse than consensus expectations and, today, better/in line with them. Possible explanations: Markets are Dismissing fundamentals; Looking through the short-term; and/or Are confident of a Fed Put. It was exactly midnight so, as Mercedes told me to do, I smashed the coconut in the middle of the West Side Highway. Things are going to get better, I thought, when I saw the coconut all over the highway. It was March, 2002. My second baby was born the night before. On 9/11 I lived two blocks from the World Trade Center. During the Financial Crisis I lived on Wall Street. I'm a bit tired of always living in "Ground Zero". For 15 years, I thought my self-worth was my net-worth. And everyone else had an agenda for me. I had been living my life upside down. I listened to other people's agendas for me. I never asked: "Who am I?" "Why am I?" and "Why now?" because for a long time I couldn't figure out the answers. . . #writing #disaster #lifestyle …see more

I’ve been an employer. And I’ve been an employee. And I’ve seen every salary negotiation possible. 99.9% of hires make mistakes in the salary negotiations. That’s perfectly fine. They have a bigger vision for their careers and they are excited about the job so the tendency is to just agree and get to work. I get it. But nobody is offended by a good negotiation. If a company is motivated to hire you and you are motivated to work at a company, then a good discussion about the job makes everyone happier. VERY IMPORTANT: A good salary negotiation is win-win. Both sides get more motivated. The pie gets larger... …see more

VR is starting to feel more 3D TV or curved TV than the next computer games platform let alone next video / entertainment platform. AR said to be more promising but I'm just not sure we want more tech in our lives.Maybe the smartphone is the perfect form factor as you can put it down and make it clear you are showing people your full attention.

A lot of moves to improve company culture confuse cause and effect. Creative , happy , innovative companies are not made so by having pool tables, hanging together outside of work, dining together etc.
