I've no idea why there isn't a huge amount of Advertising for CPG brands, Electronics, Fashion, etc all over the internet with "Buy now" buttons with an option to take you to Amazon/ Walmart / Target etc to buy in one click. This sort of unit was made in 2012 and never took off. The economics make more sense now. The era to "click to find out more" has to be replaced by "click to add to shopping basket" …see more

Gender is a difficult idea to redefine for many people. We are taught from birth about boy + girl, blue + pink, male + female. The truth is, many of our friends, neighbors, family members and colleagues experience something in between and outside of that dichotomy. Hey, we can all benefit from coloring outside those lines ourselves now and again :) Making room for the REAL and LIVED identities of everyone means shaking loose some of our most deep-rooted understandings of the world. It’s all good. Applauding #Mattel here and what this means for #GenApha and #GenZ (and all of us) to live their truths. …see more

When you are a speaker on the same panel as someone like Edith M. Lederer, it's time to take stock of things. You are no longer an ingenue, or an acolyte, or a meek and humble observer. You may have done something worthy of sitting alongside the eminence and grace of a woman who has dominated her profession for 50 years and shows no signs of slowing down. You must clear your throat and speak up, and pray you'll be considered a colleague. Come to think of it, you have just arrived. #jaws17 #JAWS #women #journalism #mentoring …see more

Did you watch all 3 videos in the #BeMoneyConfident series? My tips were - 1 - Don’t be fooled by jargon - investing is simple ( https://lnkd.in/fHXAGvV ), 2 - Back up goals with good habits ( https://lnkd.in/ffqruXs ), and 3 - Feel free to ask lots of questions about risks but then make sure you do take the first step ( https://lnkd.in/f-288RV ). #investing …see more

Just noticed LinkedIn has enhanced its Endorsement feature. It asked me ‘you’re highly skilled in wealth management...would you like to endorse x?’ When I did, it further asked me how I knew x, including if I had heard about his skills rather than through being his manager, colleague, client etc. I don’t know how it’s going to clean up historical random endorsements but it looks like LinkedIn will harness this feature much better in future to make it really useful. Now I wonder what they can do about fake degrees and employment histories... #LinkedInFeatures …see more

Why do we get distracted? Most people will tell you that action is driven by carrots and sticks -- the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain. However, neurologically speaking, it’s all about the avoidance of discomfort. This is easy to understand on a physiological level. We eat because we’re hungry. We sleep because we’re tired. We put on a jacket because we’re cold. But this is also true on a psychological level. What do we do when we’re lonely? We check Facebook. What do we do when we’re uncertain? We Google. What do we do when we’re bored? We watch Netflix or go to Reddit. This is important to understand because if all human behavior is motivated by a desire to escape discomfort, that must, therefore, mean that time management is pain management. I recently appeared on the PM For The Masses podcast where I talked to Cesar Abeid about the tactics we can all use to control our attention and live with integrity. I’ve included a link to the episode in the comments below. Tag somebody who would benefit from hearing this message! #Indistractable #Productivity #TimeManagement …see more

Led by the incredible entrepreneur Julia Cheek , our SoGal Ventures portfolio company Everlywell is launching the first at-home COVID-19 testing kit on Monday! This will largely address the testing kit shortage in the US which is costing lives every day. Providing affordable, convenient lab testing has always been Everlywell’s mission and today this is more important than ever as the US faces unprecedented challenges providing tests for COVID-19. Yesterday, Everlywell announced the first solution in the U.S. to enable at-home collection, overnight sample delivery, and teleheath diagnosis for COVID-19. In 10 days, the Austin-based team of 90 built this solution with PWNHealth, fulfilment centers, and lab partners. Everlywell was also ranked as one of the best startup employers in the US. As an investor, I’m in awe of our portfolio companies that exhibit so much resilience, strength and excellence, especially at a time that none of us have experienced before. Thank you for committing to helping people in need with relentless innovation. 🙏 #startup #femalefounders #venturecapital …see more

I don't care who you are, where you live, or what you do, but you need to follow Amber Swenor . She is basically the Gandhi of all things entrepreneurship and digital marketing, especially all of the obstacles that occur in being a female executive. She's a master of all things... From understanding people and business, Being a fellow lover of unicorns and magic... And to being a lead singer of a heavy metal band! If you follow me you'll love everything she shares ⚡ While you're at it don't hesitate to give my big brother some love who is pretty new to LinkedIn, Jason Goetz ! He runs an extremely successful Audio and Visual company in Colorado, specializing in creating unique and unforgettable atmospheres with his commercial AV and LED expertise. I went to a dance party he supported with A/V, lasers, LEDs, and graphic screens and it was EPIC. Tens of thousands of party-goers entered the room with their jaws hitting the floor at the sights of LEDS and lasers everything. Who else is up to amazing things?! Do you listen more than you talk? Leaders cite listening as an essential soft skill because it demonstrates respect, builds trust, and makes people feel valued. It also allows leaders to discover new ideas and detect potential problems when they're still small. Here are three ways you can cultivate your listening skills: 1. Stop multitasking and focus on others. Step away from your computer, put aside your phone, and give others your full attention. 2. Watch for nonverbal cues and incongruence. A skilled listener is conscious of the words spoken by others, but can also "hear" what’s not being said. Pay attention to others' words as well as their body language so you can spot inconsistencies. 3. Listen with the intent to understand, not to formulate your response. Getting into this habit means you'll gain a deeper understanding of others, which will improve your communications and relationships. #listening #leadership #business #success #professionaldevelopment #relationships #communication #growth #softskills #career #HumansFirst …see more

Transitions are tough. Most of us dislike change, particularly when it’s thrust upon us unexpectedly. But even when we know it’s coming, we dread its arrival. Recently, I recalled a conversation I’d had with a good friend of mine who, at the time, was preparing for her daughter to leave for college. My friend had been struggling for months with the idea of her only child going away to school until she made a simple but powerful mindset shift. She said, “It’s not a loss, it’s a change.” At that moment, it dawned on me that if my friend could come around from a place of sadness, anxiety, and worry to acceptance, then perhaps we could adopt her mindset for other transitions in life and career. Change isn’t necessarily negative. Reframing a situation as a change rather than a loss means that you accept that things will be different (and possibly even okay or better). The one thing we know is constant is change. And the only thing we can control is how we respond to it. So the next time you’re faced with a transition, remind yourself that “it’s not a loss, it’s a change.” And that that change may be just what’s needed to move your life forward. #transition #mindset #change #career …see more

Are you adding a message to the Recruiting person? You should, it’s worth the effort. If you do it right! The way you approach Recruiters is as important as your CV. There’s so much at stake. Yet I still get pinged with messages that immediately disqualify the sender. Here’s how to do it: #DO : Personalize your response. Make it sound like it comes from you. Research. Give us a feeling you know what the company does, and how it relates to YOU. Be Polite. Mention any special ability you have that’s relevant. I’m always looking for a candidate with an edge. End your message with a Call To Action. A simple ‘best regards’ isn’t enough. #DON ’T: Use templates. I spot them immediately. Command us to do anything. You don’t work for me, I don’t work for you. Not yet at least :-) Ask us what we have to offer you. This is about offering yourself, not the opposite. Finding a job IS a job. Make the effort. #hr #people #linkedin …see more

How many company profiles have you seen with an LGBT+ flag incorporated into their logo this month? We like to talk about pride month as if it doesn’t affect the workplace, but it does. In over 20 states, people can still be fired for their gender identity and sexual orientation. We still struggle to see mass representation of LGBT+ leaders. This pride month, I hope those same companies with rainbow logos are looking at their policies and language around terms like “family values”, “parental leave”, and more that directly affect a person’s relationship between their family and their work. It could be a great catalyst for meaningful conversation on workplace culture and HR benefits. As much as I love a colorful logo, if all you are doing is changing your avatar on Linkedin, you’re missing the point of #pridemonth . #benefits #pride2019 …see more
