I recently got a message on Instagram from an elementary school teacher. She told me that every week, her class chooses one character virtue to focus on -- things like kindness, empathy, and responsibility. The character virtue for this week? Indistractable! She said that she spent part of the week going over some of the techniques covered in my book with her class. When one of her high-needs students was working diligently on an assignment, a friend walked up to him to have a conversation and politely, the student responded with, “Not now, I’m indistractable” and went right back to work! At the end of each day, the class gives shoutouts to each other. Here are some of the things the teacher heard: “The whole class was indistractable when we were meditating and someone knocked on the door. We acknowledged the sound, but kept meditating.” “I have a shoutout for Jordan because he was indistractable when we were doing math on the computer. I saw someone try to distract him and he shook his head, then kept working.” With all the concerns around COVID-19, it’s important to focus on the small victories. #Indistractable #Traction #Education …see more

What if we could use the same psychology behind Facebook , Twitter , and other habit-forming products… for good? Writing my last book, Hooked, was an exercise in examining how the secret psychology behind how the products we use every day influence our behaviors. My purpose for writing Hooked was to inform people about the psychological component of product design and to encourage healthy habits. BREAKING NEWS! A woman staying at the Duesseldorf University Hospital died during a ransomware attack. It could be the first death directly linked to a cyberattack on a hospital. During the attack, the hospital couldn’t accept emergency patients and the woman was sent to a healthcare facility around 20 miles away. It's going to be extremely hard to catch these bad actors. What healthcare institutions can do is to prepare for such attacks by upgrading their cybersecurity systems. I wonder how many hospitals worldwide employ cybersecurity experts. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #cybersecurity …see more

So I've been progresing in chess studying openings and exercising 2-3 hours every day. I'm around 1400 ELO on chess.com (an increase of 600 points since November). I learn so much about how A.I. will be used in medicine on the way. Rudolf Spielmann said that in chess, ""Play the opening like a book, the middle game like a magician, and the endgame like a machine.” There is a huge overlap with how we practice medicine. The opening is obtaining data and information about patients. It should be done like reading a book. Seamless and by the rules. The middle game is the hard part: making a diagnosis. It is even currently being done like magicians do their job. A lot of people don't understand it but it's fascinating, hard and creative. The endgame is the therapy and monitoring part which should work like a machine: automated following guidelines. This is only possible by implementing artificial narrow intelligence into the daily work of medical professionals. This is why it's so important to understand the basics of A.I. On the photo, I discuss an opening issue with a potential GM. ☺ #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence #chess #deeplearning #machinelearning #TMFchessjourney …see more

Worth keeping an eye on this: After a partial retracement and being largely range-bound, US yield curves have been steepening again. This is particularly the case for 2s-30s (below). More steepening, should it occur, would raise a number of interesting policy, economic and market issues. #economy #markets #bonds …see more

Today's June US economic data, while notably lagging given recent developments, pointed to both the potential of and the challenges facing the economy: On the one hand, the 5.6% rise in consumer spending is indicative of demand potential in a healthy re-opening scenario. On the other hand, the 1.1% fall in income highlights sensitivity to government support. #economy #spending #consumption #consumers #growth …see more
