What's great about this post is the brutal honesty of what the real drivers are in medical practice. It's money--getting more of it and limiting the hit to physician and hospital's pocketbook. And what's also inspiring are some of the comments, where the collective sentiments are 1) yes we know money drives healthcare and , 2) yes it's gonna be hard to change. That said one comment stuck out at me not only for what they said but who said it... Below is an excerpted comment from a LinkedIn member to the main post. This fellow is an official at The Joint Commission ...and I called it out because it is kinda, well, radical! Especially coming from someone who represents hospitals! "I agree with Warner's comments. Additionally, healthcare entities will need to become engaged with communities in a more effective manner to promote changes in behaviors, community priorities, and resource allocation. This is because 80% of health outcomes are driven by personal behaviors and social determinants, not the healthcare system. " …see more

I’ve made a pledge with my team because let’s make this clear: we can only leave COVID behind if we're all vaccinated. Therefore I pledge with The Medical Futurist team that we will get vaccinated with any vaccine that is approved by the FDA, WHO or the EMEA as soon as possible. Why? Because we trust science and vaccines we can read the studies about. Studies that were published in international, high-level, peer-reviewed journals to make sure that other, relevant researchers could also validate the results. I encourage you to do the same. #getyourvaccine #ipledge #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus …see more

These devices should be in every primary care physician's bag. A digital stethoscope, a tricorder, a mobile ECG, a vision analyzer, and a blood pressure cuff. Each device is easy to use, provides digital data and even an analysis of the results. The results are easy to share, thus the physician is not left alone with complicated decisions to make. Their price is going down fast. Digital health technologies help obtain digital and objectively quantifiable data. Maybe a portable ultrasound could be added to the list. What was the most modern/futuristic device you have ever seen at your primary care physician? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #wearable #health #healthy #fromchancetochoice #gp #primarycare #medicalkit …see more

You can never tell you know yourself perfectly. (And of course what you know about yourself overlaps just a little bit with how anyone else knows you.) This sounds all the more peculiar, keeping in mind that every bit of our body can be measured objectively, by data-driven devices. It's just a matter of time to be able to read someone's dreams and thoughts. Here you can read a collection of what exactly you can measure about yourself already - please tell us if we have left anything out! #themedicalfuturist #technology #health #healthcare #futureofhealthcare #digitalhealth #devices #wearables #healthdata #data #fromchancetochoice …see more

Diabetes management went through a radical transformation in the last years due to technology: the diabetes patient community found a strong voice online, continuous glucose monitors are taking the place of finger pricks, digital patches and insulin pumps make the dosage of insulin more predictable, and connected devices promise the era of artificial pancreas real soon. We looked around where diabetes technology stands today and what could we expect in the next 5-10 years? #artificial_intelligence #telemedicine #genomics #healthcare #diabetes …see more

I received so many questions about this smartphone case that measures vital signs that here are some more details about it. The review, of course, will be on medicalfuturist.com in April. I attach the cover to the back of my smartphone, download the app and can use different parts of the case to measure the vital signs such as body temperature, heart rate, ECG or blood oxygen levels. So far, my experience with it is that it measures these fast and it's easy to access the data on the app. Some parameters such as blood pressure or blood glucose level require a third party device but that's fairly obvious. I'll keep you updated as the testing goes one. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #wearable #health #healthy #fromchancetochoice …see more

Week Ahead for Markets and the Global Economy I can't wait for the week to begin, and not just for the next phase of the "retail investors vs hedge funds" battle. Other things to watch for include: Lots and lots of data releases around the world, including the monthly US jobs report and many countries reporting PMIs; A ton of corporate earnings; Quite a few Fed speeches, and central bank policy meetings in Australia and the UK (among others); Further indications on the global race between continued Covid infections and vaccination in the context of more divergent restriction regimes; and Lots more. #economy #economy #markets #jobs #covid #investing #china #economics #bonds #wsj #equities #recession #uk #economy2020 #dispersion #jobs #employment #unemployment #centralbanks #monetarypolicy #boe #bankofengland #reservebank #rba …see more

With today's move, the DXY dollar index is now 7% below its March 20th high. Worth keeping an eye on this, and not only because it is beneficially, albeit at the margin, for the US economy and markets. It also places pressures on some countries that already lack resilience. #economy #markets #dollar #currency #dxy #fx #foreignexchange …see more

This week's jobless claims came out at 3.8 million (compares to a consensus expectation of 3.5 mm). This takes the 6-week cumulative total to some 30 mm -- a truly historic and astounding shock to the labor force with real pain and suffering behind the numbers (and socio-economic effects ahead). #economy #jobs #employment #wages #unemployment …see more

Background to this surge in ETF liquidations: Conditioned by years of ample and predictable injection of liquidity by central banks, investors ventured far in their quest for returns. Some asset managers responded by offering them easier access, including ETFs on inherently illiquid asset classes. #ETFs #ETF #economy #markets #centralbanks #liquidity #volatility …see more

As regards an update to the simplified traffic light signals: It's a flashing green for technicals in markets for now due to big re-balancing flows in favor of stocks in -- this in response to first quarter losses that range from 19% (for Japan's Nikkei) and 21% (for the S&P in the US) to 27% for emerging markets. I suspect that this will return to an orange later in the week. Fundamentals: Constant red still. Policies: Flashing green, but tentatively so due to implementation challenges. #markets #stocks #emergingmarkets #economy #investmentmanagement #currency #forex #volatility #centralbanks #currency #forex #tradewar #economy #fx #tradewar #equities #selloff #bonds #yields #ecb #monetarypolicy #liquidity #federalreserve …see more
