Suddenly, it all makes sense. Louise Reid Ritchie, Ph.D. made me spend 9 years in East Africa mentoring young journalists! This 26 year old picture in front of the Detroit Free Press building, of the second class of #Freep high school journalism apprentices, explains everything. Jemele Hill is in the front row, far right. A teacher had told her she asked too many questions before Louise assured her that quality would make her a great journalist. 26 years later, Jemele Is the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Journalist of the year. The tall kid with the glasses in the back row on the right is Lawrence Patrick , who now directs the San Francisco campus of Northwestern University ’s Medill School of Journalism. Tucked in the middle is Tonya Mosley , senior Silicon Valley editor for KQED radio based in San Jose. And next to Tonya is...me. I volunteered to help work with the Freep apprentices because Louise's tireless, passionate commitment to nurturing young people was inspiring. Thank you, Louise, for brilliantly modeling the power and fulfillment in mentoring young minds. THE IMPACT OF INSOLVENCY LAW ON INDIAN BANKING LANDSCAPE -- It was a fantastic panel discussion. Few of us consider how important relationships are to our wellbeing. Psychologists tell us that loneliness is as detrimental to our health as obesity and smoking. Part of the reason that we have an epidemic of loneliness is that we can’t form relationships with other people when our heads are down in our phones and we’re not actually speaking to each other. We also don’t make time for the civic groups that past generations held time for on their weekly schedule like the bowling league or religious group meeting. If we don’t learn to manage distraction, make time for relationships, have face-to-face interactions when we’re around people that we want to connect with, our physical and mental health will suffer. #Indistractable #Health #Fulfillment …see more

Long before a deal is made between two parties, a relationship is established. Ask yourself if you view someone as a partner or a vendor? Are they a valued member of your community or a means to an end? If that relationship is rooted in trust, respect, and service, it will endure (as will future sales). If that relationship is treated as a mere transaction, it will never see the light of day and likely fizzle out before a sale is ever made. When you choose relationships over transactions, you're doing your part to create a kinder, more positive world where connections with others are highly valued—and always come first. In doing so, you'll not only elevate your life, but also the lives of those around you. #success #career #mindset #service #relationships #value #personaldevelopment #professionaldevelopment #trust #leadership …see more

Cycles.🔄 They rule our lives. Some, like the seasons, we can’t control; some we can, and some we choose to ignore until it’s too late. Whether you realize it or not, every day, week, month, quarter, and year — and some would say history — revolve around cycles. And that’s the real key: your awareness — or lack thereof —that these cycles are occurring. Ask yourself how you’re spending your time during these cycles: Are you accomplishing your goals? Are you making progress? Said another way, does your attention match your intention? Or do you blindly go through the motions of your life, allowing time to pass and another cycle to repeat itself? When you acknowledge and examine those past cycles, you can use them to your advantage. You’ll see how and with whom you spent your time, and if that was energizing and positive, permitting you to grow, or draining and negative, causing you to stagnate or worse, take a few steps backward. The good news is that you can proactively shift your focus to those things that truly matter and are good for you, and let the extraneous minutiae slip away. Because one thing is sure: they’ll always be another cycle; it’s what you do with it that matters. #career #leadership #intention #attention #growth #inspiration #mindset #selfawareness …see more

"I don't want to come across too salesy". Do you know what's worse - being awks about how awesome you are When you're on social media, you're essentially selling your authority, influence, and expertise. It's a limitation that we set for ourselves. I became more confident in selling when I started hanging with Justin Michael and The Salesborgs™ community. I'm a good marketer. I became a better sales person. haha Fundamentally, marketing sells the hype and trust. Selling is presenting the solution to your problem - a good product does sell itself. The common thread between the two: know who your customer is. If you don't know your ICP/Target market - it's really hard to attract their attention, and selling them anything. Instead of saying: ah I don't want to come across salesy. Rework the narrative and be confident about what you're offering. It's the difference between charging $100 p/hour to $1000 p/h (guess where I sit? :P) Be confident. Promote your work, your expertise and influence. #stringtheory on #personalbranding and if you want to become a better seller - come hang out in The Salesborgs - it's $1 entry fee but as utility-based community - we share insights on outreach, cold calls. My fav thing is watching Justin do cold calls live (it's motivating) …see more
