CNBC on today's better than expected US retail sales. Highlights the resilience of consumer demand -- a major reason why the IMF, to cite one example, expects the US to have a smaller GDP contraction in 2020 when compared to most other advanced countries. #economy #markets #IMF International Monetary Fund #retailsales …see more
Interesting late session price action for US stocks. After gaining initially in response to the Federal Reserve statement, they sold off across-the-board during a press conference in which Chair Powell "struggled" on responding to a few questions according to some commentators on CNBC . By the end of the session, the Dow had lost almost all its gain, closing just 0.1% higher. The S&P ended 0.5% and the NASDAQ 1.2% lower. An interesting question for investors for the short-term: With the FOMC meeting out of the way and with this price action, will short sellers challenge current valuations. #markets #equities #investing #stocks #economy #cnbc …see more

Quick Market Update Rough start for US stocks with a sharp drop for the Dow (900 points or over 3%), and somewhat less for the S&P (2.7%) and NASDAQ (2.3%%). Unfortunately, retail investors seem most vulnerable to being whipsawed given their recent adoption of the rotation trade. #markets #stocks #investing #equities #stockmarket #economy #bonds #investmentmanagement #nasdaq #dow …see more

"At what time of the day do you #brainstorm #business #ideas?" [ANSWER]: I have a waiters pad on me all the time. I brainstorm all day. If someone says something even funny to me, i write it down. By the way, brainstorming sort of implies most ideas are bad. You can’t judge your ideas. Just write them down. Judge later. …see more

I came into the workplace during the last financial crisis. 2020 feels familiar. It’s ambiguous, chaotic, and uncertain. (Man, this dramatic line spacing really does set the mood.) You could be a new grad, in between jobs, or trying to keep the wheels turning. Either way, your #CareerChallenges are likely rooted in the same thing: uncertainty. So, what happens when we find ourselves in a place that we've never been before? It’s easy to wallow in the uncertainty, but that's not productive. Here’s my take. This is for anyone facing a new challenge right now or feeling stuck: Trust the goo! You have what you need within this state of ~meh~ to get through this, and even to transform. You know more than you think. You are more capable than you feel right now. PS: No I’m not selling a course. I use this dumb butterfly metaphor with all my friends who ask me for (questionable) life advice. PPS: If you need questionable life advice, call me. PPPS: Yes that’s a disco ball planter. Yes, I’ll make you one. Check the #CareerChallenges hashtag for more stories, and good luck! Trust the goo! …see more
In today’s landscape, with campaigns involving multiple stakeholders becoming more common, brands at all points in the supply chain must focus anew on creating strong relationships with the suppliers, manufacturers, and retailers they rely upon.
On the same day as another mass shooting in an American church, I’m hearing from Brandon Risher, M.A., L.P.A. , a psychologist at Presbyterian Psychological Services. His grandmother was one of nine people murdered by a white supremacist at Emanuel AME Zion Church in Charleston, SC in June of 2015. Risher is speaking at a forum on Mental Health at Caldwell Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, organized in part by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force. Read about the task force here--> https://lnkd.in/e6wSpVU During my one year in the City of Charlotte , I’ve seen the Task Force convene and participate in many events and conversations about the city’s challenges. Clearly, there’s a significant gap in mental health services from Charlotte’s poor and those living on the margins. But we must all acknowledge the epidemic of mental health problems, and lack of access to treatment, in America today stemming in part from our rates of violent crime. #Charlotte #LeadingOnOpportunity #mentalhealth #NovantHealth #CarolinasHealthcareSystem #PresbyterianPsychologicalServices …see more

Over the past few weeks, people have asked me for my review of the Netflix documentary, The Social Dilemma. What I had hoped to see in The Social Dilemma was a sober, evidence-based dissection of these complex realities. I was disappointed when the film instead advanced a narrative that depicted social media as mind-controlling monoliths that are "hijacking" our brains.
