Thinking is one of the most underrated activities. Constantly reacting wastes significant amounts of time, energy and money. Think first, then act. Download your free copy of my 99 Productivity Essentials here: https://lnkd.in/epuxvYe
IF YOU’RE A VISUALIZER Try This Strategy:Use your appreciation of novelty to stimulate you by changing the scenery. Find a conference room on another floor, visit the office cafeteria on off-hours, or go to a local coffee shop where you can complete your work uninterrupted. If you must stay in your office environment, minimize external distractions by using headphones (with or without music playing) or physically reorient your body so people cannot catch your eye. …see more
These are the questions I ask every time I sit down and write. They help me and I'll bet you'll find them useful, too. Give it a try!
I’d love there to be a vast well funded , well considered global movement towards tolerance and understanding. It’s two huge vital things to help our future. And both things that social media seems to have damaged enormously.
Let’s face it. Gifting is hard. And, gifting in a professional setting is even harder. The last few years, I’ve been curating my own list of gifts to give to clients, colleagues, vendors, and partners. Here’s my holiday gift guide from last year. I’ve continued this tradition since so many of you have shown great appreciation for the ideas found in these guides years past. …see more
Attention is the kid on the sidewalk in a panda suit spinning a banner. Relevance is the mere whisper that's now trending on Twitter. Attention gets you noticed, but relevance gets you business.
I cannot watch the video of George Floyd's murder. I remember the day in July of 2016, almost two months after I returned to the U.S. from Kenya, that I watched the murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile by police, and how I sobbed viewing them. I remember how panicked I felt. I had returned "home” to witness up close why Black lives don't matter in America. Those images seared through my brain like a hot poker. I did watch the video of the white woman in Central Park calling the police to report that a bird-watching Black man was threatening her. The clinical calculation of her tactic, the way she KNEW that saying her "perpetrator" was Black would get a police response, was nauseating. I KNOW what watching the murder of George Floyd would unleash in my mind. Maybe one day I'll have the courage to deal with it. But between #coronavirus and everything else Life has tossed my way, I cannot make room for it now. All I can do is continue to pray for the mothers of Black sons. And for all Black people in America. Some days, it feels like we're all we've got. #America #racism #justice #justus #policebrutality #policemurderers #enough #GeorgeFloyd #GeorgeFloydWasMurdered …see more
For #MondayMotivation , I woke up wondering where the heck 2019 went to--then I remembered there's still time to SET IT OFF. The end of the year is a great opportunity to toast the first 11 months of effort, challenges, victories, set-backs, laughter, tears--lessons. As Nelson Mandela stated so beautifully: "I never lose. I either win, or learn." Let December be your time to reap the wins and the lessons so you can come out of the gate strong in 2020. After all, it's going to be the ULTIMATE year of crystal clear focus! #FinishStrong #YouCanDoIt …see more

Bravo to Time Magazine for elevating the urgently important role of #journalism in these chaotic times.
For #ThrowbackThursday --May 2, 2018, the first time I ever set foot inside National Geographic Headquarters in Washington, DC. There was no way I could predict where that journey would lead. All I knew was that I’d landed an assignment to report about #maternalmortality for NatGeo Magazine. Oh, and that I would be working with one of the coolest, funniest, REAL-est famous people I’ve ever encountered—celebrated photojournalist and The New York Times best-selling author Lynsey Addario . That day launched one of the most intense, challenging and awe-inspiring journalism experiences ever. So while I await publication of our article in the January 2019 National Geographic Global Health Issue, I’ll be posting some memories from the past seven months of being a freelance #NatGeoTraveller . It’s been the ride of a lifetime! #journalism #freelance #media #exploration #inspiration #globalhealth #photography #photojournalism #maternalhealth …see more

The stampede into passive investment/index mutual funds - could it ultimately (and ironically) make markets less efficient? Great graph from Wall Street Journal.
Only about half as many Americans are moving (for work/school) now vs 30 years ago - big implications for jobs, politics, society. The US has long stood out from most other countries because of the geographic mobility of people living here. From Wall Street Journal. …see more
