I’ve interviewed MBA (Finance) graduates who turned up for investment consulting positions who then tell me they want to be investment bankers. This is when economy was bullish (so they weren’t desperate) and google was already a verb. If you want to build a career in finance, please learn to do some research. #financecareers …see more
The best morale you can give to any employee: a challenging work environment, genuine opportunity to succeed, trust, reward, and the ability, encouragement and expectation that evenings, nights and weekends are sacred and belong to them and their family, not the company they work for. All the morale money and morale events in the world will not get you the happiness and loyalty ROI that the above mantra will. There will be exceptions to evening/night/weekend work, but they should be avoided and minimized at all costs. #balance #commonSense #firstPrinciples …see more
What does it take to become a domain expert? Start by getting a day job. Seriously. If you want to become a domain expert, you have to get domain expertise -- and the only way to do that is to spend time doing the work. In order to provide insight and add value to peoples' lives, you need something to drive you to get past that hump of having to catch up with the experts. That takes time. It takes time to read what others have written, to debate the things in your mind, to note the flaws of the way you see the world. That's a process that can't be rushed. What are you currently in the process of developing expertise in? #ThoughtLeadership #Expertise #Growth …see more
We can’t control our feelings, only our response to them. I use the analogy of sneezing to illustrate what I mean. Nobody willingly feels the urge to sneeze. But by the time you feel the itch in your nose, it’s already too late: You already feel the urge to sneeze! But do you sneeze out in the open and get everybody sick or do you take out a handkerchief and cover your face? While we can’t control our urges, we can control how we respond to them. Hence the word “respon-sibility.” When we feel internal triggers like boredom, anxiety, uncertainty, and stress, it’s up to us to respond to those feelings in a healthy and productive way -- because if we don’t, we’re not able to live up to our values and accomplish the things we set out to. How have you responded to uncomfortable feelings lately? Has it been healthy or unhealthy? #Indistractable #Response #Growth #Productivity …see more

“This July 26th marks the 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a broad civil rights law that seeks to integrate people of all abilities into the mainstream of society. For those of you unfamiliar, ADA defines disability as a ‘physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.’ At any given time, disability affects about one in four Americans. Yet, it’s important to remember that over a lifetime most of us will experience some kind of limiting condition. So, ADA protects nearly everyone! This year, we remember the leaders who fought so hard (in the 1970’s and 80’s) to make ADA a reality, and those who continue the struggle to bring its promise of equity and inclusion to everyone. So, I encourage everyone to get involved, to take a stand for inclusion, to use your voice. To the next generation, I say, don’t take the ADA for granted…it’s up to you to continue the struggle to make it a reality. Get involved. Push for adherence. Hold your leaders accountable, And most importantly, vote. Happy Anniversary ADA – may your promise of a truly welcoming society someday be realized.” ~ Scott Crawford, MS Activist #HumanResources #Inclusion #DifferentlyAbled …see more
Here are TWO instant tips to make more out of your time on LinkedIn... 1️⃣ Include a MESSAGE in your connection requests! 2️⃣ Stop ignoring inbox pitches! I probably go through and hit IGNORE to over 100 connection requests each day. NOT because I don't have space... But because without a greeting, it's hard to understand WHY the person wants to connect or HOW they can improve your network. Also, I get pitched A TON. When I receive an "ASK" I use it as an opportunity to get to know the contact better... and in most cases, I pitch THEM. I have gained so many clients by contacts that were "invasive" at first. But then again, I am a personal brand strategist and LinkedIn coach... so it's the perfect opportunity for me 😊 Stop looking at inconveniences as BAD. Start finding the opportunities in the cracks. 💰 IS EVERYWHERE 💰 You just have to be resourceful to obtain it. How do you hustle? Wisdom is the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense and insight. But it transforms into something truly powerful when it is shared. Why? Because all the wisdom in the world is meaningless without application. Yet many leaders eschew this and choose instead to hoard their insights, fearful of giving them away. They don’t understand a simple truth: sharing your wisdom doesn’t diminish your impact; it amplifies it. And the best way to magnify your message is to harness the power and reach of #socialmedia . When #leadership does this, they provide transparency into what’s going on inside their head, something that employees, customers, investors, and partners will all value. In fact, a lack of transparency is what often sinks unsuccessful entrepreneurs, who end up frustrated with their inability to communicate well. When you freely share your wisdom, you provide value to others. Your observations enrich their lives. You help them think about their situations in an entirely new light and encourage new possibilities. And when you do this regularly, those most important to you will look to you as a guidepost, a trusted thought leader who strives to serve others by communicating the lessons they’ve learned in a genuine way. …see more
We’ve all felt the fatigue of seemingly never-ending video calls. #ZoomGloom is real, and it’s exhausting us. 😩 Here’s how to counteract it: Go analog📚 Swap board games for Netflix, paperbacks for e-books, and card games for video games. Grab a pad & paper✍🏼 Journaling your thoughts and feelings now will help you appreciate post- #COVID times even more. Communicate old-school style✉️ Handwriting a note makes you feel good, and because it’s such a rarity these days, your recipient will cherish the gesture even more. Head outside🌳 All of your video conferences are taking place inside, so build in breaks and head outside to help you press the reset button. Move your body🕺🏻 Throw on some upbeat music and hold your very own dance party, take a walk around the block, or take a midday break for some yoga. Get creative🎨 Stretch your artistic muscles by engaging in a fun activity. You’ll express yourself creatively and have a tangible result of your efforts. Make time to play⛹️♀️ Grab your pup for an impromptu game of fetch or challenge your kids to a fort-building contest. Have a screen-free weekend😀 Instead of staring at the TV or phone to relax this weekend, move away from your devices, and experience life beyond the screen. #career #leadership #balance …see more

If I had a dollar for every time someone posted to "GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE" on LinkedIn, I could retire. Because SO many of you get comfortable in your idea of what life is supposed to be. What is SAFE or what is EASY. ...because of self-limiting beliefs from insecurities and toxic relationships. Like a bad boss that didn't know how to manage employees, making staff feel dispensable and undervalued. Or emotionally abusive teachers, lovers or family that told you you'll never amount to much. We ALL have that story to share. A story from the naysayers. I'm here to remind you that it's a CHOICE to succeed. It's not SAFE and it's definitely not EASY which is why so few hang on... but NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. What are you waiting for? I can't agree more! I found "feeling grateful" and "count my blessing" in a daily basis as one of the most powerful things that help me feel calm and collected no matter how much turbulence I feel around me. Highly recommend utilizing gratitude! A good place to start is to count 3 small things you are grateful for every day when you wake up. Also, be nice and forgiving to yourself. Don't focus on what you "haven't done" yesterday or the goal you missed last month, but rather focus on what "you've done" from your to do list yesterday and the "progress" you made toward your "big goals". #gratitude #feelinggrateful #smallwins #positiveattitude …see more
In a recent interview with Wired, Kai-Fu Lee gave artificial intelligence a B-minus grade in the fight against COVID. Does it mean it failed? I believe it's way better than nothing - considering that it couldn't have contributed much even a few years before. Not to mention its potentials in predicting future outbreaks, and that we read about its novel successful applications week by week. For example just now, an artificial intelligence program that would monitor COVID-19 patients at home, and dispatch ambulances if they deteriorate, is just about to get a green light from the Australian government. Read about the remote monitoring algorithm, and check out our e-book for a deeper understanding of how we can employ A.I. in healthcare! https://lnkd.in/gzEVGGN #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #COVID19 #ebook …see more
