How to diffuse a tense or unprofessional meeting in 5 easy steps: 1) Break the tension with politeness and a smile 2) BE UNFLAPPABLE. Look past the immediate emotion and just talk to the data as if nothing happened 3) Keep your tone even and your verbal cues positive 4) End professionally: “I hope this answers your questions, happy to chat more, etc.” 5) If you get interrupted, see steps 1-4 and repeat as often as necessary. If meeting/audience grows hostile, see below. If the behavior violates company policies or is really off the rails, the most senior person in the room should have the good sense and experience to end the meeting on the spot. Otherwise, put your best foot forward, show patience, maturity and diplomacy, and bring everyone back to agenda. And don’t provide feedback in the meeting. That comes later, and offline. Give the other person(s) the respect you didn’t receive. Because you’re doing that for yourself as much as you are for them. #leadership #dobetter #professionalism …see more
I’d like to clear something up about behavior change and creating healthy habits: the issue is NOT that we don’t know what to do! We all know which foods are good for us, which exercises to do, and how to maintain healthy relationships. And in the off-chance that you don’t know how to do something, there are endless resources that could answer any question you may have. The issue isn’t that there’s a lack of information. The issue is that we can’t stop getting in our own way. And this is exactly why becoming Indistractable is the skill of the century 💡 Because in order to understand the leading cause of distraction, we have to look within. The uncomfortable emotional states of boredom, loneliness, uncertainty, anxiety, and stress can push us to make unproductive decisions. These uncomfortable emotions aren't character flaws or moral failings. They're completely natural and we all experience them. The issue is that most people haven't learned the skills to deal with emotional discomfort in a healthy way. Until we learn to address the root causes, we'll continue to struggle with distraction -- whether it’s at work, with our families, or with our personal goals. #Indistractable #Health #Emotions #Decisions …see more
Kierkegaard once said, "Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom." Research shows us that we operate better under constraints. When we have too much freedom or too much white space, it can be dizzying. As more people work from home today, we find many of the normal constraints we usually have in our day are gone. We no longer have to get the kids to school on time or be in the office at 9:00 AM. With the structure gone, many of us are still trying to figure out how to adapt. If we want to achieve our goals and live out our values, we have to bring back some constraints and plan our days. We have to set aside time specifically for the things we value: work, family, and self-care. I’ve included a link to my schedule maker in the comments section. It’s a great starting place for figuring out how to align your time with your values. What’s something you’re going to make time for this week? #Indistractable #Scheduling #Values #Productivity #WFH …see more
The most urgent task today is to create broad immunity for COVID19. But we need to develop, manufacture and distribute at least 7 billion doses of the vaccine. An insightful post by Bill Gates on the global fight against #COVID19 and how a #vaccine could be possible in the next 18 months …see more
If I don't have something profound or inspirational to say, I am a very quiet individual. Can you relate? This can bite back from time to time. I can appear unknowledgeable, naive, and even ignorant, driving cliche "dumb blonde" jokes. The toxic criticism used to drive me absolutely mental but it doesn't bug me as much anymore. You can't judge a book by its cover. So why do so many people hold onto biases? To anyone that feels unheard because they are living a life fueled by intention, I hear you. I see you and I respect your decision to remain quiet until the moment strikes and I encourage you to connect with me and join the conversation regarding a world built on inclusion for ALL to thrive. If you are hungry for interesting topics such as quantum physics, social change, and neuroscience let's connect on a deeper level - I'd love to introduce you to XXO Connect. What's your favorite topic to indulge in and grow? #personaldevelopment …see more
Many of us are in what could only be described as a liminal space in our careers. We’re literally in between what was and what’s next for us, career-wise. On the verge of transformation. And we don’t like it. We hate the wait and not knowing, but lasting change rarely happens fast. Though it seems counterintuitive, embracing the pauses of liminality can be the best way to fuel your career growth. “Liminal thinking” is a way to create change by understanding, shaping, and reframing our beliefs. The idea behind it is that there are doors of opportunity all around us, but we fail to see them because we’re focusing on other things. When we use it to tune into these incredible potentials for growth and change, we’ll see things that others miss or can’t imagine. To get started, take stock of your current beliefs—which ones are holding you back? And how do these limiting beliefs spill over into how you view others and move through the world? Next, learn to let go of the old to make way for the new. Create an environment that is open to differing views and welcomes new ideas. Expand your horizons by exposing yourself to fresh thinking and activities. When you adopt a new way of seeing the world—and yourself—you open the doors to change and growth. #leadership #career #liminality …see more

❌Post 1 quality piece of content per month. ❌Adding anyone and everyone. These are super old school way of using LinkedIn. Here’s the new school way... Being a channel means being the trusted source in your industry. Being a channel means: 🍗 crafting content that’s relevant ... don’t push content for the sake of it, relevant content that educates and provides key value to your connections 🍗 volume matters ... so you can be on their feed. you don’t need to post everyday, but just enough to be on top of their mind. Again, it’s increasing the touch points of communications of your ideal client 🍗 relevant connections ... for example, If you’re in the coaching business and your key clients are 6-7 figures. You don’t add a Kfc employee. That’s not relevant. 🍗 data is key to creating your narrative ... are you using this to analyse your content and connection approach. Is it effective? Am I reaching the right audience? Old school tactics won’t get you anywhere. It’s true, I’ve only used LinkedIn for a few years but I created a channel and I’m getting inbound with the right connections. Thoughts? Are you old or new school about LinkedIn? #stringtheory on #marketing …see more

Whoever started the rumor that Senior Citizens don’t like—or don’t use—today’s ‘modern apps and technologies,’ are missing out on an entire market. Yesterday I saw this person at a hospital “hailing” her ride—with a cane and walker no less!! According to Pew Research, although seniors consistently have lower rates of technology adoption than the general public, this group is more digitally connected than ever. In fact, some groups of seniors – such as those who are younger, more affluent and more highly educated – report owning and using various technologies at rates similar to adults under the age of 65. So I say to you Tech Companies: Keep innovating for Seniors! …see more
I received the image on the right from a patient who saw this at a medical practice. Instead of that, we encourage medical professionals to use the one on the left and we send those badges out for free internationally. In the 21st century, threatening patients with their power and authority is pointless. Instead, they should act as guides in the jungle of medical and digital information. This attitude certainly leads to better doctor-patient relationships. Per this chart from The Economist this week, high frequency indicators of (what used to be normal) economic activity have turned down in states that are more vulnerable to Covid-19 outbreaks. As noted earlier by Jonathan Ferro, this is not always -- or even necessarily -- about government directives. The downturn have involved dis-engagements led by the private sector. #economy #covid #covid19 The Economist …see more
