Federal Reserve officials are right to push back against the view that their policies worsen income inequality. It's harder to push back against the Fed (inadvertently) contributing to wealth inequality ,including for the reason illustrated by this chart from Brian Chappatta in his latest Bloomberg Opinion post (link below). https://lnkd.in/gVXcn5q #economy #markets #inequality #fed #federalreserve #centralbanks #wealth #income …see more

An often under-represented risk of social lockdowns and economic shutdowns, as necessary as they are for health reasons, is the rise in domestic violence (thus the UK government mitigating step — below). Ignoring this comes at the peril of society, and especially of women and children. The risks are even more pronounced in developing countries. They include an increase in teenage pregnancy, rape, child marriage and too many others. #socialjustice #coronavirus #covid19 BBC News …see more

It’s going to feel great to look back on these times. They’ve not been much to look forward to, it’s not a great moment to be living in, but it does feel like the start of something that could be better than we dared hope and maybe sooner than we really expected.

Don't think there is a lot of money to be made, least of all now, but every single thing about renting a car needs to be rethought. The thing that amazes me the most is a reservation isn't actually a reservation. Doesn't mean that I have to pick up the car, but also doesn't mean there has to be one for me. It's a world of websites that take you to other brokers, to other brokers, to get vouchers. The pricing is all over the place too. Seemingly random numbers, before trying to flog you insurance or a GPS unit, or a new fee for nothing. Not moaning, if you can navigate the mess it's insanely cheap but there must be a better way, It's a mess. …see more

I don't understand why we tolerate so much bad design. Norman Doors are everywhere, Arrivals screens as common as Departure screens in Airport lounges, awful TV choice architecture, etc. Why is bad UI so prevalent when thinking and empathy is free of charge.

I tend to be a pretty open person. Over the years, I have accepted a lot of connection requests on LinkedIn from folks I don't know. Heck, I've even made new friends in the real world from connections first made here. But in the last year or so, almost every connection request is almost immediately followed by a sales pitch. And while I appreciate that people want to "shoot their shot," going forward if I accept a connection request from someone and get a sales pitch immediately or soon thereafter, I will un-connect with said person. In business, as in life, relationships are important. And if all a person wants out of connecting with me is a sale, I am not here for it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk (that was a joke). #linkedin #networking #sales #salespitch …see more

At first, I was flattered when the poll volunteer didn’t believe I was born in 1961. I mean, she SERIOUSLY didn’t believe me. Like, I had to show her my ID. It was funny for a second! Then she told me there was a Jonathan Jones born on my birthday in the computer, but no Rachel. At a poll location I’ve voted at twice before. I’d stopped laughing by that point. Then she conferred with a colleague who asked me to verify the address she was looking at on the ID in her hand, and then they found me in the system. Only my birthday was October 31st in the computer, instead of the correct date of October 3rd. And she couldn’t change it in the system, she said. Now I have to worry if my vote will count...and ponder how many folks may just give up if they’re told they aren’t in the computer records. #ThisIsAmerica #2018Midterms #IVotedEarly #IHopeItCounts #votersuppression …see more
