‪I suspect that the reverse causation is even more intriguing and consequential for economic and financial prospects, as well as increasingly distortive in its societal influence — that is, is the widening impact of stock markets on policymaking. More on this to follow via Bloomberg Opinion. …see more

Still think the best combination in making anything is someone precocious, naive, generalist, excited, unreasonable, questioning, and a deep expert, experienced, with relationships, and a strong sense of learnings from the past. It's the tension, the conflict resolution and the massaging between the two which propels things forward. We tend to have too much of the latter, we've people who know precisely how it's always been done, who have "seen it all before", people who have "tried it and it didn't work" . Those who've don't just have closed minds to new possibilities, but would never ever try to seek them. It's what explains most legacy lack of innovation. But we've also too much of the former. Tech arrogance; the assumption whats been learned is out of date, the idea that everything new is better, that ALL the rules have changed and that their spirit is all that matters. I see few attempts to combine the two because it's likely very hard. So why can't TV people work with tech people to rethink TV? Why can't DTC folk work with CPG folk to make something that can actually make profit. Everything interesting happens at difficult intersections, yet we've assumed collaboration should be fair, polite, calm, linear etc. …see more

I saw this ad from GE today about getting women into STEM roles. Absolutely loved it. I think about this a lot. It's crazy how the world idolizes "celebrity" and not people who accomplish stuff.

Quibi calls it quits... Postmortem reports a series of missed moments. It took Quibi six months to do what took Blockbuster decades - call it quits. After, a cool $1.75 billion dollars and content from Spielberg, JLO, and more. 😳 Where did this short-form video company go wrong? - Did you know what Quibi did? If you've never even downloaded the app, you aren't alone. While many had heard the name and knew the names of super moguls behind the content - Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman - they didn't know what Quibi was or WHY they should bother. Marketing 101. - It launched during the pandemic - which could have been great as audiences consumed more content than ever before but the programming was limited to mobile phones. No option to stream on TV. - And oh, you couldn't share the content on social media so there was really no way to create virality. 🤦🏽‍♀️ They had excellent content and a big budget but they missed ALL their moments. #quibi #socialmedia #marketing #pradvice #marketingstrategy …see more

When you have star talent, use them. Don't stifle them. Challenge them. Listen to them. If you don't you will demotivate and lose them - and all the benefits they could have offered your organization. Enable people to give you their talent and most will. Do you agree?

What will YOU be doing in 2030? I’m thinking about that as I consider pictures of myself from January 2010 and January 2020. At the top of my list of goals for the next decade? Breathing. After all, I’ll be almost 70 in 2030. But because of my mentor and role model Edna Adan Ismail , I intend to be still racking up frequent flyer miles doing the work I’ve come to love. So I have to make smart decisions about my physical, mental, financial and spiritual health. I’ve claimed 35 more years...and I don’t plan to waste a second of them. February 2020 Budget Speech of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been the longest in history -- two hours and 40 minutes. How long will be this year's Budget Speech? Incidentally, going by the word length, it hasn't been the longest. Manmohan Singh's 18,650-word 1991 Speech is the longest. Nirmala Sitharaman's 2020 Speech had 13,275 words. Arun Jaitley's 2018 Budget Speech has been the second longest -- 18,604 words. HM Patel's 1977 Speech at the Interim Budget has been the shortest, just 800 words. Sitharaman's 2019 Budget Speech lasted for two hours and 17 minutes, just two minutes longer than Jaswant's Singh's 2003 Speech. #Budget #finance #India #GDP #FiscalDefict #Growth #Infrastructure #Health #Welfare …see more

The external members of RBI's monetary policy committee can come from diverse backgrounds such as finance, labour and economics, and must have a say in the entire interest-rate architecture -- not the policy repo rate alone.

Quarantined! (Public accounting PTSD from Sept11) #utilizingnewtechandradicalbusinessmodelsmeanitdoesnthavetobethisway This too shall pass or it will be the end of the world! It’s kinda funny but kinda not! #sarcastic A lot of people think I’m extreme because most of my actions and decisions are all in or completely out. I think about how I was treated during September 11 in Public accounting. I see a lot of the same #busyseason decisions being made today. #Taxseason from accounting firms actlike everything is status quo. But it’s not! Schools are closed, we are told to limit contact and our customers are reaching out because they run small business’s who may not be able to pay bills next month. Employees may or may not be coping well. Even if we can work from home, it may not be easy.. (kids, kitchen table setup, thinking about the current state). We still don’t know for sure the IRS regulations on extensions. I hope for your firm and your talent‘s sake you are #EXTRAkind to them during this time. Are you considering your talent as your most important ASSET! When it passes and I do believe it will. Do you have enough constraints in your life? This question may be a little hard to understand at first, but let me explain. Research shows us that we operate better under constraints. Too much freedom can often be disorienting. When the possibilities are endless, it can be hard to make a decision. This is especially important to consider as we continue to work from home and transition into the holiday season. Many of the normal constraints we usually have are missing. There's no office to go to. Work hours have changed. Our kids' school years have been rearranged. Much of the structure we've become adapted to is gone and many of us are still trying to figure out how to adapt. This means that if we want to fulfill all our normal responsibilities -- completing work on time, focusing on our health, and spending time with our families -- we have to bring back some constraints and plan our days. We have to eliminate the white space on our calendars and set aside time specifically for the things we value. How does your schedule align with your values? #Indistractable #Values #Adaptation …see more
