Important Dialogue that Co-founders must have: 1. I often hear at the beginning, 'We (co-founders) are equal'. Please choose the CEO among you, who will be the final decision-maker when there is a disagreement. 2. Another thing I hear is, 'We all do whatever is needed'. Define responsibilities, clearly set and measure accountability for outcomes. 3. In the case of equal equity ownership, discuss what should happen when someone outperforms or under-performs and make provisions for it. 4. Value creation takes time. Create equitable & fair vesting by provisioning for what happens when someone leaves in a year or two. Have difficult conversations upfront openly.
