This week's NASDAQ decoupling continued today ... not just in terms of absolute returns (now 2.2% WTD compared to the S&P's 0.9% and the Dow's -0.6%) but also direction today (chart). This pattern is likely to continue given the after-hours tech news -- particularly for Apple, Facebook and Google. #markets #stocks #investing #investors Apple Google Facebook …see more
Andrew Bailey, the Governor of the Bank of England, just indicated that the MPC didn't consider today either negative rates or yield curve control. Part of the caution comes, I suspect (and rightly), from lack of evidence from Europe and Japan that the benefits of such measures overwhelm the costs and risks. #centralbanks #economy #markets #monetarypolicy #interestrates …see more

In a volatile day that saw the Dow trade in a 800 point range, US stock markets ended at the highs. The Russell again under-performed, as did, unusually, the NASDAQ. The VIX also staged a big turnaround, closing at 33. Interestingly, the yield on 10-year government bonds ended lower (0.62%). #markets #stockmarket #stocks #equities #trading #forex #dow #fx #nasdaq #investmentmanagement #investing #bonds #assetallocation #fixedincome …see more

What's one thing you do to maintain a healthy relationship with your partner? I'll go first: Twice a month, my wife and I plan a date. Sometimes we do something elaborate, but most of the time, we just go for a walk and talk. For hours and hours, we pick each other’s brains, catch up, and solve problems together. But regardless of what we do, one very important thing remains constant: This time is carved into our schedule and it will not be compromised. Here's why 👇 If time together isn't scheduled, it's too easy for us to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks -- tidying up around the house, running errands, finishing up projects, taking care of a few chores. These bi-monthly dates allow us to live out our shared value of intimacy—there’s no one else I can open up to the way I can with her. But this can only happen if we make time for each other. Alright, now it's your turn: What's something you do to maintain a healthy relationship with your loved ones? #Indistractable #Relationships #Connection #Values …see more
If you’re an entrepreneur, here’s one thing that can set you apart from your competitors 👇 💡 Make time to think! 💡 Your peers and your competition spend much of their time running around, putting out fires, and constantly responding. They’re in a state of constant reaction. Here’s what they’re NOT doing: Reflecting Very few people take time to temporarily step away from the urgent issues and reflect. The honest truth is that most of us are really good at solving our own problems. We’re familiar with the issues and have a general idea of how to address them. What’s missing is the time we need to reflect. For me, I love to write things out ✏️ I like to write out my problems, my questions, my issues, my concerns. Writing things out is what helps me digest complex issues and brainstorm solutions. But unless we make time to think and reflect, there’s no way to move forward. Make time to reflect. It’s a competitive advantage. #Indistractable #Reflection #ProblemSolving #WorkEthic …see more
Smartphone and app makers didn’t invent distraction – they’re just the latest culprit. Before smartphones, we blamed distraction on television 📺 And before that, it was the telephone ☎️ Go back a little further and it was comic books 🦸 Or the radio 📻 Go back more than 2,000 years, and Socrates was even criticising the written word, for causing ‘forgetfulness in the learners’ souls’. Distraction has been around for as long as we have! I recently authored a piece that appeared in Psyche Magazine where I discussed how to become indistractable. I talk about: Why we need to stop blaming tech The root causes of distraction And more! I’ve included a link in the comments section! We all experience setbacks. People trying to eat healthier will occasionally give in to their cravings and eat fast food. People wanting to get in better shape will sometimes skip a few days at the gym. People in the process of becoming indistractable will sometimes spend too much time on social media. Setbacks are a natural part of growth. The way we can overcome distraction is to take steps today to make sure they don’t happen tomorrow. Remember: the antidote to impulsiveness is forethought! Also, don’t beat yourself up! Instead, practice self-compassion. A good rule of thumb is to talk to yourself the way you might talk to a good friend. Since we know so much about ourselves, we tend to be our own worst critics, but if we talk to ourselves the way we’d help a friend, we can see the situation for what it really is. Telling yourself, “This is what it’s like to get better at something,” and, “You’re on your way” are healthier ways to handle self-doubt and setbacks. How do you practice self-compassion? #Indistractable #BehaviorChange #Psychology #Compassion #Improvement …see more
