Dear all "Cord cutting" TV service makers. Please compete by making it easier to find and discover things to watch, with a wonderful modern fast UI, and not on price. Searching for shows by Channel and Time are as dumb as I can imagine.

Still think in 5 years time few will really remember this oddity , we will have glazed over this weird spell and life will be much the same. For better or worse. Not seen any evidence to suggest otherwise.

I need you to understand what being a member of the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) is like. But I can't use worn cliches or professional platitudes. So I'll go with visuals. It's like being shrouded in a warm embrace. It's like someone grabbing you by the shoulders, staring directly into your eyes and saying, "I know you can do it, even if you don't." It's the way you feel when you're about to leap off the cliff toward a new chapter of life, and on the way down you see someone waiting with a big net and a warm smile, beckoning. "You're gonna be just fine." Just ask Roxanne Foster , the outgoing Director of Operations for JAWS. After two years as the organization's steady pulse, she's leaving to follow a long-held dream of being a foster parent. So JAWS members decided Roxanne should be the next recipient of the "JAWS Quilt," which was made by Betsy Wade using t-shirts from past Camps. I think Roxanne's response says it all. JAWS is a place where it's comforting to be bold, to dream big. Because you're not alone. #jaws17 #JAWS #women #journalism #mentoring …see more

THE SWAN SONG: Rajnish Kumar, Chairman, State Bank of India and Aditya Puri, MD & CEO, HDFC Bank on life beyond banking .... Happy watching. Both stepping down in October -- Puri, after creating one of the finest banks globally, heading it for 26 years; and Kumar, heading India's largest lender for three years but the challenges of this short period were enormous -- could have spread over three decades! # # #financialstability #indianbanking #banks #india …see more

It was Sept 11th (Corporate Extensions were due 9/15) I was at work with monika schwesig at an "Old School" firm. The partner made Monika stay late into the dark to finish a tax return while his wife frantically called. I will never forget how to treat your team, and that world does not revolve around work. Life, and the people you love are more important than a job ALWAYS. #leadership #technology #linkedin #accounting #radicalcpa …see more

Would like your feedback on business models.... I spent most of my career in investment research. The options of business models were -  1) consulting/subscription (user pays) 2) sponsorships/advertising (product provider pays) 3) transactions/brokerage (user pays on transactions) 4) ad valorem fees embedded in product (user pays % fee) As I moved to education and media (and isn't research, education and media on the same continuum of content anyway?), it seems I only have the first two options. The book 'The Content Trap' was educational on how some media properties are able to charge subscription while most struggle.  Does anyone have any other ideas on how I can make independent educational content available to those who want it? If it helps, think of leading media houses...are they in the news business or advertising business? If they were to switch to paid subscriptions, would you pay? Do you understand difference between a platform and content provider? Thanks …see more

One factor that correlates with workplace depression is an environment with an “effort-reward imbalance.” This is when workers don’t see much return for their hard work, be it through increased pay or recognition. At the heart of both job strain and effort-reward imbalance is a lack of control. According to Mental Health America , depression costs the U.S. economy over $51 billion annually in absenteeism. But that number doesn’t account for the mild depression-like symptoms caused by unhealthy work environments that lead to unwanted consequences, such as distraction. Because we turn to our devices to escape discomfort, we often reach for tech to feel better when we experience a lack of control. Checking email or chiming in on a group chat thread provides the feeling of being productive, regardless of whether our actions are actually making things better. How does a lack of control at work prompt you towards distraction? #Indistractable #MentalHealth #Awareness #Workplace …see more

“My kid’s in front of a screen, that’s bad!” Too often, we associate our kids’ tech usage with negative outcomes. In the clip below, I talk about how our children are living happier, healthier lives today than they were even a generation ago. That’s not to say there are no downsides to tech overuse, but if we want our children to form healthy relationships with technology, we must take a nuanced view of the role it plays in our lives and teach them to become indistractable. What do you think? #Indistractable #Parenthood #Development #ScreenTime #Growth …see more

Many parents are concerned with their child’s seemingly obsessive video game play. In recent years, Fortnite was all the rage and a gaming phenomenon. Naturally, some parents questioned whether the shooter game was okay for kids. The short answer is yes, Fortnite is generally fine. However, there’s more to the story. Check out my article on this at the link in the comments below! In it, I discuss how “Kids’ Video Game Obsession Isn’t Really About Video Games. It’s About Unmet Psychological Needs.” #Parenting #Indistractable #VideoGames #Tech …see more

When you’re #perceptive , you’re good at understanding and figuring things out. Perceptive people are insightful, intelligent, and able to see what others cannot. They envision the possibilities, embracing what could be, rather than being satisfied with the status quo of what is. They use the #softskills of #listening to make them sensitive and responsive to their team’s needs; #awareness of others to fuel their ability to truly “see” people beyond the façade of their armored shells and then ask probing questions to understand better what matters most to them; and #empathy because they know the power of understanding their audience is paramount to business success. These leaders realize that it’s not about them, and know that to #communicate and #connect , they must put other people’s needs first. Positive leaders tend to have a growth #mindset or one in which they believe they can—and will—improve, and see every opportunity as a chance to grow and learn. They’re #curious and tolerant of new ideas and people and are less like to be thrown off course because of an unexpected setback. They empower others to make decisions. And their openness builds #trust naturally, which allows them to connect with others more easily. #leadership #positivity #emotionalintelligence …see more
