Who is laughing at you? Look I’m used to it! I stand out! I’m a woman in a predominately male profession. I’ve always been different! I’m Radical! And my climb into leadership was most definitely nonlinear and non traditional. My ideas have never been the status quo. Some are really good, some are Ok, and as some have evolved, I think what was I ever thinking... But what I do know for sure is .... if people don’t think you are a little bit off. You aren’t being creative enough. No one leads when everyone agrees... #beoutstandinginyour (Lavender)field and don’t be afraid to be laughed at! Looking back at my career, one thing that will rise above all others, is that I was, am, and continue to be an unrepentant, caring and relentless employee advocate, and that I *prove* this consistently, through act, word and deed. It hasn't always endeared me to upper management - sometimes, quite the opposite. It has, however, endeared me to my employees, and helped me build camaraderie, loyalty, and a great work environment. It sets an example for what a good boss, team and org should be like. And what they should expect, and deserve. And for that, I'm not sorry, and never will be. …see more

In order to understand what distraction is, we have to understand what distraction is NOT. If you ask the average person what the opposite of distraction is, they might tell you it’s focus. ...but that isn’t exactly right. The opposite of distraction is traction. If you look at the origins of the words “distraction” and “traction”, you’ll find that they both come from the same Latin root of “trahare” meaning “to pull.” “Distraction” and “traction” also end in the same six letters: A-C-T-I-O-N. Traction, by definition, is any action that pulls you TOWARD what you want to do. These are things done with intent--the things that move you closer to your values. The opposite of traction is DIS-traction. Distraction is any action that pulls you AWAY from what you planned to do. These are things done without intent--the things that move you further from your values. In order to understand whether or not something is a distraction, ask yourself: Is this what I planned to do with my time? Am I doing this action with intent? I recently appeared on the Insider Insights podcast with Kevin Jubbal, M.D. about • The root causes of distraction • How a timeboxed calendar can improve productivity • And more! How do we teach our kids to become Indistractable? With the rise of tech and social media, this is a question parents are having to think about now more than ever. After all, we’re not just raising children -- we’re raising future future adults, and being able to manage distraction is the skill of the century. I recently sat down with Sandeep Harpalani and Taranom Kazempour of NETGEAR and we discussed how to raise Indistractable kids and the tech being developed that helps us hack back. Link is in the comments! Give it a listen and let me know what you think! #NETGEAR #HackBack #Indistractable …see more

Research has found a strong connection between the way we think about aspects of our nature and our ability to follow through. A study published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs found that individuals who believed they were powerless to fight their cravings were much more likely to drink again. An addict’s belief regarding their powerlessness was just as significant in determining whether they would relapse after treatment as their level of physical dependence. The implication here is huge -- mindset mattered as much as physical dependence. Whether or not we believe we’re capable of behavior change has a real impact on our success. Labeling yourself as having poor self-control actually leads to less self-control. It’s important to remember that we aren’t fixed creatures. Any setbacks or missteps we experience are not proof that we’re inherently deficient. Behavior change is difficult and takes time. This is exactly why I’m a big proponent of self-compassion -- speaking to ourselves with kindness, rather than contempt, when we experience setbacks is vitally important. How do you practice self-compassion? Do you have any self-limiting beliefs? #Indistractable #BehaviorChange #SelfCompassion …see more

How to grow your audience on LinkedIn Be a channel by doing these 4 things: 1. Clean up your profile to look legit - think about your niche + expertise. 2. Create content that adds value 3. Comment and engage (it's a 2-way convo). 4. Connect with relevant folks. -- A common misconception is... ❌If you create one content, you will have eyeballs. It's all about being memorable. Like in my favourite movie Inception. They plant a seed, an unforgettable memory. When triggered, we recall the information and story. Consistent content with great messaging. This reinforces your positioning and when peeps are ready, they will come and do business with you. 🍗 Be a channel and become the go-to-voice. You're the expert. You have years of knowledge to leverage and share. It's not hard. It requires patience and time. As for me, I'm planting seeds about personal branding. 🍗 I'm String Nguyen and I like fried chicken. Here are 3 easy steps to grow your voice on LinkedIn. Build your brand equity online. Follow these THREE STEPS to establish your presence and credibility: First, SIMPLIFY: What's the one superpower that you want to be known for? And in what niche market - Tech? Consumer goods? Outsource services? (This is where the demand is) Who's your target audience – Fellows? Decision-makers? Startup founders? Treat yourself like a product. SIMPLIFY your value proposition. Second, AMPLIFY. The key to attracting clients is to let them know that you have the SOLUTION to their problem. That's your urgency. And you need to be persistent – not for your sake, but for theirs. You have to tell them what THEY NEED YOU NOW. And lastly, GROW. On top of establishing your voice in LinkedIn, it is the gateway for you to monetize your superpower. GROW your online presence by creating content. This would increase traffic to you, which then brings you leads and clients. GROWING YOUR BUSINESS in LinkedIn is putting more sense in what you are good at. Combine that with PERSONAL BRANDING and associating it with authority, credibility, and financial success. Is your channel leaking? Your money is dripping out because you're likely not niching down. Niche your channel. Niche your positioning. A “niche” is simply the market (or a subset of a market) which you intend to serve. In marketing lingo, it is what you’re going to talk about a lot on LinkedIn? The choice of your niche is important because it has a direct impact on the potential for making money down the road. I used some established YouTubers as examples: Holly Lee, coaching career Nick Nimmin , YouTuber for YouTube Roberto Blake , creative entreprenuer Jasmine Star It also impacts your ability to get traffic to your channel on LinkedIn. Every week, I share digestible marketing tactics and theories - subscribe to String's Theory (and read examples and 3 tactics to determine your niche). #stringtheory on #personalbranding #socialmedia …see more
