#WhyLinkedin ? Because I knew I needed to play to my strengths before I had the opportunity to work on my weaknesses. I knew that I was decent at writing, and when I started writing in 2015, Linkedin had just bought Pulse, the new publishing platform. Sometimes we don't have time to work on our weaknesses first. You have to leverage your strengths from the gate to reach your goals. Why are you on Linkedin? Come meet young linkedin creators and users who chose the platform as their medium to kickstart their career at the Young Linkedin Leaders Evening next week (August 17th) at General Assembly SF. "Each obstruction that is not [overcame] becomes an excuse. And these excuses ultimately take the place of your dreams. And then all that's left are you and your excuses." For a long time, I blamed not being as successful as I wanted to be on excuses that I was capable of overcoming.  I let these obstructions become excuses.  #NoMoreExcuses #StudentVoices …see more

From The Mouth of Babes: The Basics Of Common Sense and Decency... While visiting an elementary school yesterday this poster caught my eye. Wow. There is so much that’s “right” about this little poster that I believe it is worth sharing. Whether applied to every day conversation, negotiations or social norms, we should abide by these simple little ethical “guide rails.” Go Forth And THINK! …see more

For Children, Teens and Young Adults, Guns are “Public Health Enemy #1” What kills more young people than cancer? Guns. What kills more young people than car accidents? Guns. By any cause (falls, poisoning…) guns are the number one cause of death. We have a pandemic of gun violence and like all pandemics, we prepare for them, we isolate the infectious agent, we vaccinate when possible, we treat or cut-out the disease. Doing nothing—taking zero action—is no long a legitimate stance. Do No Harm does not mean Do Nothing. This is NOT a political message. This is a public health warning. I am a Healthcare Professional calling all other Healthcare Professionals to take a stance and write letters, push local polices to stamp out this virus of gun violence. Just like we do with ebola, bird flu, or Influenza, we take action. Even the American Medical Association—which is a fairly conservative organization—adopted a policy of calling gun violence a ‘public health crisis’ and voiced support for gun control measures such as waiting periods and background checks for all gun purchases. Do No Harm=Doing Something …see more

In the war against the #COVID__19 virus, behavioral economists are likely to be as worried as medical professionals are about the oncoming winter in the northern hemisphere -- and for good reason. The higher incidence of colds and flu, the symptoms of which can be too easily confused with #Covid without testing, are likely to aggravate what I have called the "human counter party risk" challenges -- adding to the continuing complexities of misaligned individual/collective risk assessments. It will also place great pressure on the virus testing system. #covid19economy #economy #covid19 …see more

Good morning. The big event this morning is, of course, the monthly US jobs report. Consensus expectations are looking for 1.35 million in job creation (would be notable but lowest addition in 4 months) and a 9.8% unemployment rate (would be the first sub 10% level since March). #economy #jobs #employment #unemployment …see more

While the US COVID19 focus has tended to stress (i) largest number of infections/deaths in the world and (ii) unsynchronized national re-opening ... relative market indicators continue to favor the US (e.g., the DXY currency index and a 10-year US-Germany spread back above 120 bps). #markets #economy #fx #currency …see more
