I had the pleasure to give the closing keynote at the International Health Forum in Munich about how artificial intelligence will impact healthcare, especially companies focusing on OTC drugs. The first questions were all about (you would never guess) whether my smart sleep alarm really helps me wake up feeling energized. Is sleep tracking (or using a smart sleep alarm) such a big deal? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #speaker #keynote #speakerlife …see more

Dance like nobody is watching. Love like you've never been hurt. Do you job like you're independently wealthy. It's terrible advice, but fun to think about. How would you do things with no fear, but passion?

Like most people, I am delighted about the remarkable progress made in developing Covid-19 vaccines. Yet, as discussed in this column for The Guardian, there is still a lot of work to be done to minimize the risks to the economy, both in the run-up to mass vaccination and thereafter. https://lnkd.in/g8ght6r #guardian #economy #markets #covid19economy #covideconomy #covid #covid__19 …see more

The Financial Times on why "Lebanon debt talks [are] ‘on pause’ after government resigns." I would add it is well beyond "pause": With the recent tragedy amplifying the already-terrible pain and suffering being experienced by a growing segments of the population -- and particularly the most vulnerable -- external debt issues will/should get little attention. https://lnkd.in/gmZnN-Z #economy #debt #Lebanon #FT …see more

One of the other sides to yesterday's post (and chart) on the record debt issuance by companies following the extraordinary credit easing by the Federal Reserve: Just look at this surge in investor demand as illustrated by the spike ($28 billion to 48 billion) from mid-March in the biggest Investment grade bond ETF. #markets #bonds #etfs #fed #federalreserve #investing #investors #interestrates #etf #etf #debt #fixedincome #investmentmanagement …see more

Re US policy response: I don't believe the big question is whether there is a Phase 4 fiscal intervention. There will be. The big question is whether it's focused again on relief, including dealing with gaps and unintended consequences,or on stimulus to support the economic restart. #economy #coronavirus …see more

Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, with the company on the brink of bankruptcy. Soon after, Apple began working on a new device that Jobs would cleverly describe as "a thousand songs in your pocket." That device, of course, was the iPod. The iPod was famously dubbed "the Walkman killer," a reference to the previous market share king in portable music players, the Sony Walkman. But how was Apple able to leapfrog Sony, a huge corporation that dominated the market, owned its own music company, and itself had come up with the Walkman? Because Jobs embraced the "no silo rule." Imagine the scene: You sit in a McDonald's drive-thru for what seems like hours. Frustrated beyond words, you take to McDonald's Facebook page to leave a complaint...only to receive zero response. Then, out of the blue, you finally get a reply... From Burger King. Who proceeds to offer you a free Whopper. How would that make you feel? That's just one brilliant example of Burger King Denmark's recent ad campaign, which was developed in partnership with Danish ad firm Uncle Grey. Burger King's ad campaign is more than clever. It's an example of how brands can use emotional intelligence to build meaningful connections with customers. Love him or hate him, you can't deny the success of New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady. Despite being way past his prime and one of the NFL's oldest players (now at 41 years old), Brady just secured a starting spot in his ninth Super Bowl. That's not only the most appearances by any single player... It's more than any other NFL *franchise.* In his postgame press conference, Brady was like a kid in a candy store, barely able to hold his excitement. "How do you do it?" Reporters wanted to know. "How do you manage to stay so calm in the biggest moments?" Brady's reply: "One play at a time." Whether you make a crushing mistake or do something great, these five little words can make all the difference in the world. The truth is, much of the criticism we receive is delivered in a way that's...less than ideal. Sometimes it's downright brutal. But even if its not delivered constructively, criticism should still be considered "a gift"--because it helps you to understand the perspective of those who see the world differently from you, and can help you improve.
