When I was a 14-years-old high school student, I got a chance from the Hungarian Research Student Association to spend every Saturday at the university where I got my MD and PhD years later. That chance played a big role in me becoming a scientist and I've been grateful to them since. Today, I was invited to talk about my field of research, being a medical futurist and the future of artificial intelligence to 50 high school students who got the same chance from their schools. I had an excellent time with them and I hope I could only further encourage them to pursue science and devote their lives to the scientific method. I also got some great recommendations about indie video games and sci-fi TV shows. So it was a win-win. :) #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #STEM #STEAM #science …see more

I posted a video about the Virtuali-Tee augmented reality T-shirt and received an awful lot of questions about how it works so here it is. The sign on the T-shirt is a QR code. When I point the camery of my phone to the sign while the app is open, it detects it and starts an anatomy animation. It DOES NOT show my real organs. I know it sounds silly to say such an obvious thing out loud but plenty of people thought so therefore I have to be clear here. Good morning. In a busy week, there will be a lot of interest in Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's remark at Princeton's Bendheim Center for Finance. They come on the same day as the incoming Biden Administration is expected to unveil its fiscal package and in the context of competing comments on eventual taper. #economy #investing #federalreserve #Fed #bonds #finance #economyrecovery …see more

Today again highlights the challenges for traditional portfolio constructs—the 60/40, 70/30 #stocks and #bonds mix. Specifically, the sell off in both the S&P and US Treasury bonds aggravates the month-to-date price losses for both...as return and risk mitigation exposures sputter. …see more

Good morning. Even more interest among economists and Wall Street analysts in this morning's release of US the weekly jobless claims numbers -- and especially so after yesterday's ADP report (see the post from yesterday). While estimates vary a lot, consensus is for steady initial and continuing claims per below from Bloomberg -- at 1.4 and 17 million, respectively. #economy #jobs #employment #unemployment …see more

This move could well act as a catalysts for other states (and certain countries) also adopting their own restrictive measures. The questions for economists and investors include the extent to which this changes the individual calculus for engaging more fully in economic activity. And all this at a time when elevated asset prices/markets have already disconnected materially from the real economy on the back of exceptional central bank support. #economy #markets #covid #covid19 #centralbanks …see more

Per earlier posts, the United States has been running a "natural experiment" as states (also individuals/companies) take different approaches to lock down relaxation. Unsurprisingly, the result is different health outcomes ... now leading to some "sand in the wheels" measures to reduce on mobility between certain states. #economy #markets #covid #covid19 …see more

With another round today of China-US tension,it's worth having a look at this article from The Economist. US markets just closed the first day of the second quarter down hard, with the Dow off almost 1,000 points (4.4%). The S&P's drop (also 4.4%) is the biggest of the last 2 weeks and, with patchy private sector liquidity today, was accompanied by some market stress (but in no way as intense as what we saw earlier) #economy #markets #equities #interestrates #liquidity #stockmarket #investing #investmentmanagement #interestrates #stockmarket #liquidity #investing #forex #investmentmanagement #volatility #centralbanks #selloff #yields …see more

Hey LinkedIn peeps, Excited to announce I’ve been invited to participate in Reddit’s very first “Ask Me Anything” session on emotional intelligence! If you're not familiar w/ my work, I write Inc.com 's emotional intelligence column, and my book “EQ Applied: The Real-World Guide to Emotional Intelligence” has been translated into over a dozen languages. Some of the stuff I've written about, using stories ripped from the headlines and other real-world examples: -how our emotions impact ourselves and others -how empathy can help (or harm) your chances at success -why you should consider criticism a gift -simple tricks that can help you rewire your brain -the dark side of emotional intelligence -EQ lessons you can learn from Steve Jobs, a former FBI negotiator, and a chess grandmaster I consider myself a student, not an expert—but I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned…and I look forward to learning from you all, too. So, if you want to ask a question, head over to Reddit this Wednesday, July 8 at 10:00 am ET: https://lnkd.in/eRidWyR And I’ll answer as many questions as I can! #EmotionalIntelligence #leadership #management #eqapplied #MakeEmotionsWorkForYouNotAgainstYou …see more
