I’m over here in this #Nairobi hotel room about to LOSE MY MIND watching Briana Green, Joia Crear Perry and Charles Johnson IV on the Al Jazeera Media Network !! I interviewed each of them for my Jan. 2019 National Geographic Magazine story about #maternalmortality in the U. I am so proud to say I know these #reproductivehealth warriors, I could bust! Also thrilled that Jennie Joseph and Ebony Marcelle, CNM, MS were mentioned as well. #COVIDー19 US tests performed vs confirmed cases. Since 3/4, correlation between more tests and more cases is almost perfect. Implication: Lack of testing has NOT under-estimated infection rates. (Heavily qualified) good news

What does working from home allow you to do that working in an office does not? For most people, it’s being able to look after kids or parents, or avoiding long commutes. But are there more creative pursuits that you’re able to do? I first heard this guy talking while paddling..and wondered who he was talking to. I then realised he had a laptop on board...it sounded like he was on a conference call! What do you or someone you know do while working from home? #futureofwork #workingfromhome #meaningoflife …see more
I agree, wholeheartedly. The phenomenal thing about Amazon, however, is that as a company, we are really only writing the beginning of our history. We are a young company compared to many (IBM, ATT, Exxon-Mobil, Microsoft, etc.), and we are just scratching at the surface of our possibilities with hungry, curious minds and a Day One mindset. …see more
In 2010, I was a Dev Manager in Windows Server and System Center. I was debugging a piece of code one day, when a colleague walked in and introduced himself. He praised me for writing code as a manager, but promptly informed me not to forget that my engineers were my foremost responsibility. As I reassured him I realized that :), our friendship was immediately forged. Over the years, he has become and remains one of my closest friends. We ran college recruiting in WSSC and founded Visual Studio's Application Insights. Today, I'm proud to welcome Bahadir Onalan to Amazon! I'm super happy you're here, thrilled to be working with you again, and look forward to the awesome things you'll do! …see more
According to a Pew Research Center study, in the United States, 95 percent of teens now report they have a smartphone or access to one. Not surprisingly, 72 percent of parents whose kids have a smartphone are concerned they "pose too much distraction.” In many ways, it is parents and guardians who have enabled this situation. We’ve bowed down to our kids' demands in ways that may not benefit them or our households. Many parents don’t consider whether their child is ready for a device with potentially damaging consequences and give in to their protest that, “Everyone in my class has a smartphone and an Instagram account.” Instead of giving our kids a fully-functional pinging and dinging smartphone, it’s better to start with a feature phone that only makes calls and sends text messages. And as kids get older, a good test of whether they are ready for a particular device is their ability to understand and use the built-in settings for turning off external triggers. What are some tactics you’ve implemented to ensure that your kids have a healthy relationship with technology? #Indistractable #Parenthood #Tech #Health #Psychology #Wellness …see more

Acceptance. It’s what so many of us yearn for. From the playground to the workplace, we spend our whole lives trying to fit in, whether consciously or unconsciously. And it’s no wonder: we’re wired to belong. We want others to like us. Rather than risk rejection for being different, it’s safer to blend in. But in a professional sense, that can be a big mistake. When you try to be all things to all people, you end up being a non-compelling, watered-down version to everyone. Your offering becomes a commodity. But what if you stopped trying to fit in, and instead, focused on standing out? It starts with telling your story. But to do so, you’ll need to identify and articulate your common thread, that theme that weaves together your personal and professional experiences to tell your unique story. Do you know yours? It’s worth considering because once you have your story, it changes everything. When you embrace and highlight what makes you different and how your uniqueness adds value and helps people, you shine. And that light will attract others to you for all the right reasons. #branding #personalbranding #storytelling #careerstory …see more

[Lenovo Tech World 2019] 🤖Smarter Technology For All For the whole day I was at the Lenovo HQ Campus. There are other major tech companies like Tencent and Baidu in Zhongguancun Software Park. The Lenovo HQ Campus is YUGE. It’s about 13 hectares, that’s about 66 tennis courts. They have about 11,000 employees here working on research and development. We went through the new Lenovo Future Center, which opened last Saturday. We explored their Smart IOT devices, future concepts and how they use AI as part of vision for a smarter vision. I also had the chance to listen to 5 of their executives share their perspective of how they going to implement the vision of making smarter technology for all. Dilip Bhatia, Vice president of Global Marketing, User & Customer Experience, chatted his views on why customer feedback matter and how they use their feedback to improve their product and services. 🍗 Want to know more? Following my obsession with neuroscience? Here's a new article released today on how to keep a healthy brain! "As an organ, our brains constantly grow along with us, increasing in weight from the time of our birth through our young adulthood. However, once it reaches maximum weight, it then starts to cycle backward, losing weight as we get even older. This loss affects its functions, making it more vulnerable. Thankfully, there are easy ways you can do to maintain your brain health for as long as you can. Here’s how..."
