Sometimes I wonder about how long I’ve been doing the same thing - asking retail investors to understand the risk/return and diversification principles. This article is from 2001, pic from 1999 - that’s 20 years! That’s when we set up retail investor education portal in Oz. I am revamping my current site but follow The Money Hans on any social media for latest videos #personalfinance #investoreducation …see more

I want to make my next series of videos on this theme. How much is enough? How to balance chasing money for stuff and personal contentment/happiness? And net worth is not the most effective measure of personal ‘success’. We need to include personal and family well-being, physical and mental health, contribution to society and environment etc. Let’s start talking about different terminology to measure success for both macro and micro areas #economicgrowth #personalfinance …see more

Investors really need to understand risks of debt funds, so they can question their adviser, who in turn needs to research mutual funds thoroughly. Do retail investors understand the difference between credit and market risk? Why aren't the investor education campaigns covering important topics like this? Do they keep just promoting SIPs so they get a regular supply of inflows without anyone understanding the risks? This video was shot months ago, and put up weeks ago...before the latest debacle in IL&FS, DHFL and other NBFCs prices. #investing …see more

Financial services help us borrow, protect and grow our wealth (and transfer to some extent). But we want to earn more and spend better. This is especially true for the mass segment. Should finance be getting us better jobs?  Interesting discussion in the latest Oliver Wyman report. What do you think? What would you like your bank to help you with? …see more

Identities are powerful. A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research tested the words people use when faced with temptation. During the experiment, one group was instructed to use the words “I can’t” when considering unhealthy food choices, while the other group used “I don’t.” The results? At the end of the study, participants were offered either a chocolate bar or granola bar to thank them for their time. Nearly twice as many people in the “I don’t” group picked the healthier option on their way out the door. The authors of the study attributed the difference to the psychological empowerment that comes with saying, “I don’t” rather than “I can’t.” By aligning our behaviors to our identity, we make choices based on who we believe we are. How does your sense of identity shape how you act? Have you tried calling yourself “Indistractable”? #Indistractable #Identity #Health #Empowerment …see more

We think we solve distraction problems by trying to get more done each minute. The real problem is more often not giving ourselves time to do what we say we will. One of the most effective ways to do what we say we will is through timeboxing. Timeboxing is planning what you’re going to do and when you’re going to do it. The goal of timeboxing is to eliminate empty spaces in your schedule and plan your days. Timeboxing helps you know what is traction and distraction for every minute of your day. A successful timeboxed schedule is less about what you’re doing and more about whether you’re doing what you planned. If you’re spending your time doing the things you intended to, you’re experiencing traction. If you’re spending your time doing things you didn’t intend to, you’re experiencing distraction. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! #Traction #Timeboxing #Productivity #Scheduling #Planning …see more

When I have a burning question (which I often do), I go on the hunt for an insightful answer. That same curiosity is what led me to publish my previous book, Hooked. While doing so, I learned about product design’s ability to influence and even change human behavior. In a conversation with Nathan Chan on the Foundr Magazine Podcast, we discussed the deeper psychology behind product development and its effects on human behavior. We also discussed my upcoming book, Indistractable. Thanks for having me, Nathan! Check out the link to the full episode in the comments below! The fastest way to build your personal brand on LinkedIn. Don't copy someone else. Create original content. Content that is: 🍗 engaging 🍗 has a strong human element 🍗 reinforces your expertise/cred Even posting once a week will put you on top of mind. Still, with LinkedIn's algo - they send the extra juices to a channel with engagement + regular channels. But to be a channel, publish daily content posting is required. Be you. Be human. I noticed when I was publishing on client's account that: Tactical know how's have low reach. But adding a human element makes me more relatable, and people want to see their story into the mix. Quick recap, to stand out on LinkedIn... Create content that has a super relatable element of human. You are you. Your brain is you. Your stories are you. Be a communicator that conveys your authenticity. Your superpower. And a vision for the world. #stringtheory on #personalbranding #linkedinmarketing #contentmarketing …see more

🍗 Being memorable like fried chicken. It's super quirky and relatable. I do like eating fried chicken. One of the stories is that I traveled around the world organising fried chicken parties for my community. Each culture has their own fried chicken flavours. Not only has it build my community, as people want to connect. It also became part of theory on #personalbranding I had a great time chatting with Ant McCormack and Lee Stewart on their podcast series, The Changer Generations. They have a dope line of influential creators and YouTubers. (I'm sad that Farhad Meher-Homji wasn't part of the convo). We went on a deep dive on: 🍗 LinkedIn marketing 🍗 Personal branding (and #The7Vs ) 🍗 Racism and Sexism 🍗 @Diana Nguyen (yeah I did her marketing for Phi And Me) 🍗 and of course, fried chicken. FUN FACT! We ALL know that sleep is important... but did you know that your brain literally CLEANS itself every time you sleep?! In non-REM sleep, the human brain experiences a measurable electronic surge followed by a wave of cerebrospinal fluid every 20 seconds. This fluid is literally washing your brain! Sleep is essential for both cognition and maintenance of healthy brain function. Quality of sleep or sleep deprivation can predict the onset of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Are you getting enough sleep? Organize your schedule to accommodate eight hours of zzz's to prevent disease. #Neuroscience #Health #LifeWithMS …see more

Join Chantel Soumis and Jason Lebowitz as they continue their focus this week on Anxiety. Anxiety is a normal and often healthy emotion. However, when a person regularly feels disproportionate levels of anxiety, it might become a medical disorder. Anxiety disorders form a category of mental health diagnoses that lead to excessive nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worry. Last week we began the conversation by talking about general anxiety. Today's focus will be on Social Anxiety. Social Anxiety is a chronic mental health condition in which social interactions cause irrational anxiety. For people with social anxiety disorder, everyday social interactions cause irrational anxiety, fear, self-consciousness, and embarrassment. Symptoms may include excess fear of situations in which one may be judged, worry about embarrassment or humiliation, or concern about offending someone. Come join in the discussion and leave your comments and questions. The show streams live at 10 AM CST. …see more
