These days Publishers want to be brands and retailers. Retailers want to be brands and publishers and Brands want to be retailers and publishers In the modern world barriers to entry are so low , all the lines blur. Across discipline , across geography, across regulations, it’s just all about getting a tiny tiny space in a persons brain for awareness and trust …see more
Wonder how much longer it will be normal for companies and employees to assume skilled professionals work for only one company at 100% at a time.
The bad news: I’ve made the choice to cancel my #SXSW plans, including my Pandermonium roadshow on 3/17. I’m not confident it’s safe given such rampant cancellations of international events like this and the continued spread of the virus. I don’t trust others who are downplaying the threat or not paying attention to even basic hygiene / prevention advice eg “stay home if sick.” A dangerous cocktail— as my mother always said when I started driving: “It’s not you I’m worried about. It’s everyone else on the road.” The good news: I'll give my roadshow talk live here on LinkedIn. Watch from ANYWHERE, safe from my germs. 3/31 at 2pm ET. RSVP: https://lnkd.in/eVD3Ffc …see more
What's the ROI of "Street Cred?" 👀 Why do most #b2b companies completely fail to understand this concept? Street Cred is just a simple way of saying how much clout a brand carries - and while B2C companies like Yeti and Supreme have created entire EMPIRES out of understanding how street cred works, most B2B companies simply struggle because they've lost the humanity in the technicality. But unless you are LITERALLY selling to robots, you can't afford to ignore your street cred. There is an absurd focus on ABM and "data" and not enough on earned media, courting influencers, creating brand partnerships. Let's dig deeper into Yeti as an example. They sell...thermal coolers. Not exactly the stuff dreams are made of...YET, Yeti has become cooler the way Dyson is a vacuum or Patagonia is simply a jacket. Sales went from $39 million to $469 million...in 3 years. A big part of their success has been due to developing street cred with everyone from pitmasters to outdoorsy types. They have over 130 contracted brand ambassadors. During the pandemic, when a company selling luxury coolers for $300 bucks should have tanked, they excelled. Why? Street Cred. Develop it before you start picking it apart for ROI. #b2bmarketing #b2bsales #b2bstrategy #b2btech #b2b …see more
For #MondayMotivation , always remember to celebrate the success of your friends. Observing Jamila Robinson 's journey from Detroit college intern to her current role as Food Editor at The Philadelphia Inquirer has been one of the greatest blessings of my career. Spent yesterday with Jamila as she oversaw the photography for the Inquirer’s 2020 food and dining guide. Got to meet the Inquirer’s Director of Video and Photography Danese Kenon , and even had the privilege of observing one of the finest food photographers in the business, Clay Williams . As I've said many times, you have to be equal to the kind of energy you want to have in your life. You can't resent success, or fear it, or be jealous of it if you want to reach your own goals. Trust me, the moment that you can genuinely celebrate the accomplishments of your friends is the moment you become a real winner. #journalism #foodanddrink #foodbusiness #dining #womenleaders #womensleadership …see more
Get a sneak preview of the PAINTS Institute 2020 #MuralMarch , a joint project between PAINTS, the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) and St. John's Church. The project is a response to the growing calls for #racialjustice and an end to #policebrutality in America. That it's happening at the historic church, known as "The Church of Presidents" and built in 1816, gives the project a special significance. Great things came out of the stimulus acts to help small business, but not everything is crystal clear. When it comes to the PPP, it seems like #CPAs continue to get additional guidance on a daily or weekly basis. To get the latest on the #PPPloans and loan forgiveness, I’m talking to Erron Stark , division vice president of account strategy with ADP , about the PPP’s impact on both small businesses and the firms helping them navigate all the channels. #coronavirus #covid19 #RadicalCPA #CPALove #AccountantLove …see more
When I wrote my first book, I wasn’t doing many speaking engagements. It was easier for me to write because I didn’t have so many demands on my time. But the more popular the book became, the more distracted I got, flitting from one thing to the next, always checking my device. When I sat down to write or work on other projects, I would check emails or the news, just to distract myself. Because at the time, I didn’t have the right techniques in place. Learning how to manage my time and attention, turned into a project that eventually became my second book: Indistractable! I didn't write the book because I had superhuman self-control. I wrote it because I didn't. And one of the important things I realized was that learning to control my attention didn't just help me finish my work on time. It helped me in my relationships with my wife and daughter. It helped me align my schedule with my values. For anybody still looking for holiday gift ideas, I'd recommend the gift of becoming indistractable. I've included a link in the comments section to some signed copies of my book my publisher is selling.
