Grateful to lindsey kukunda for posting about Gloria, a 33 year old businesswoman and single mother from #Uganda , who writes about her life on her “Diary of a Single Working Mom” blog. It’s 3:40 am, and I’m reading her blog posts and thinking, “This is the same passion and clarity I had when I was committed to writing my ‘Notes From A Native Daughter’ blog 10 years ago.” Gloria writes because she is supposed to, and because she has something to say. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Thanks, Gloria, for leading me back to where I need to be. Why was your podcast in Hindi when it was about English-speaking people? Oh wow, your Hindi was very good - didn’t know you could speak Hindi...you come across as very NRI. These are the most common comments I get about my #podcast ‘Meri Pyaari Saheliyan’. I do speak Hindi well because I studied at a Hindi-medium intermediate college in Unnao, UP. (In fact, that was my highest classroom study as I did my undergrad by correspondence, which btw also included Hindi literature). I started speaking English only after I moved to Australia; I worked on it to blend in. I had to make them forget I was Indian. I made the show in Hindi to remind that I am still Indian. And I don’t see why we shouldn’t tell Indian stories in Hindi. Some of my guests had regional accents but all of them understood Hindi. What do you think? …see more

A neat hack to build a habit is to 'stack' it after an existing habit. For example, I make a cup of tea as soon as I step out of my bedroom (I've already made my bed and brushed my teeth), I say 'After I put the kettle on, I will do my stretching'. Other tips I learnt from the book Atomic Habits are design better environments and start with what can be done in 2 minutes. Another tip that I've been doing for a long time - automate my bill payments including the full credit card amount and savings fund. You become a product of your habits. What are yours? #GoodHabits …see more

What are you working on for the rest of 2020? For me, it’s doubling down and continuing to spread the Indistractable message. I worry people are adopting an unhealthy and ill-informed view of technology and I want to provide a different narrative. Movies like the #TheSocialDilemma have given people easy, oversimplified answers to some of society’s most complicated problems. Digital distraction and unhealthy relationships with technology are problems we should all be concerned about...but we’re NOT powerless. Every one of us has the ability to turn our backs on distraction, use technology to our benefit, and live up to our personal values. I recently appeared on the Mosaic Life Podcast where I spoke to Trey Kauffman about the process of writing Indistractable, how time management is pain management, and how we can raise indistractable kids! I’ve included a link to the episode in the comments section! …see more

When am I most impressed? When I witness the purity of purpose and talent. There are a lot of talented folks who work tirelessly but yearn to do something that aligns with their purpose. They spin their wheels to be productive and get ahead (and often do, by conventional standards) but never feel fulfilled. There are those who know their #purpose but are too scared to take action, pushing their true talent to the background. They tell themselves that what they’re doing is good enough, but also are left feeling unfulfilled. But every once and a while, I catch a glimpse of someone brave enough to align their purpose with their talent. I say brave because make no mistake, it can be terrifying to cast aside those things you’ve always done, the so-called “talents” that you’ve hidden behind while you were waiting for the right time to come forward with your true calling. You’re vulnerable. Exposed. You might be challenged or ridiculed. And still, you push through. But it can also be exhilarating — a rush to know, deep in your bones, that you’re on the right path. I’m inspired by your unstoppable energy. Motivated to keep going. Awestruck at your positive #transformation . Because when you combine the purity of purpose and talent, amazing things can — and do — happen. …see more

Taking action is the one surefire antidote to combat career anxiety, doubt and fear. Here’s how to get—and keep—moving: Turn those “What if?” questions from negative to positive. When we focus on the negative what-ifs—“What if I fail?” and “What if I embarrass myself?”—we remain in a vicious cycle of inertia and perceived inadequacy. But when we shift our mindset and turn those what-ifs into positive questions—“What if I succeed?” and “What if I inspire someone?”—we envision the possibilities and more easily welcome new outcomes. To grow, you need courage; courage requires taking action. Sad but true: There is no growth in the status quo. If you'd like to progress in your career, sooner or later you need to break out of your comfort zone. Challenging yourself to leave your cocoon helps you stretch your wings and gain new skills, experience, and confidence. Action begets more action—and success. When you use awareness to make action an intentional habit, you train yourself to continue to take action. Over time, those small changes in behavior creatively shake things up and breathe new life into old methods and routines. And combined with focused action, that newfound clarity will bring you something even better: success. #leadership #career #action #positivity #fear …see more

“I don’t know how to tell my story.” Every single one of my clients, regardless of industry or title, has uttered some variation of this to me. Make no mistake; these are some of the most accomplished, experienced, and savvy leaders I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. They’re founders, CXOs, and senior executives, yet they confess that when it comes to talking about themselves, they not only feel uncomfortable, they’re stuck. And they’re not alone. Maybe, like some of them, you feel like you don’t have a story worth telling. Maybe you’re humble and don’t want to appear boastful. Or maybe you worry that your career is far too scattered to make sense. Sometimes it takes someone else to remind us of our gifts, view our career journey with fresh eyes, and find that unique essence of who we are and shine a spotlight on it, so others are drawn to our presence. As we ease into the holiday weekend, I want you to know: There is a common thread that will weave together even the most non-linear of careers. There is a way to share your #careerstory without being a braggart. And yes, you most definitely have a story worth telling. Because once you have your story, it changes everything—including how others perceive, pay, and promote you. #personalbranding #storytelling …see more

Real talk: video games make me MORE productive. 🎮 My friend Swish Goswami launched the #liveyourbestlife campaign. 1). What do you do to stay mentally or physically fit in the work place? Which is important to us and our company. We’re in the process of getting company gym memberships. But on a personal level something that helps me mentally is video games. It’s something I’m passionate about. I launched an esports and video games podcast, Humans that Game, as well. It makes me better at work. I hear people say all the time “don’t play video games... they’re not productive.” We live in a world where everybody likes to tell everyone else what to do. Just find what works for you. Not bad, over 301k views in 3 months... 😉 Before he worked with The Trusted Voice , Justin was publishing content on LinkedIn like it was Twitter. Pushing 5x post per day! Sometimes more. And guess how many views he was getting? About 200 views per post. Which is interesting, because he has over 30k connections! Super low engagement. Justin Michael ticks all the boxes... ✅ strong industry knowledge (over 20 years) ✅ strong niche in B2B sales ✅ strong community It didn't take long before we blew his channel up. Now he gets comments like "Justin, you're every where". Which I translate to: you're popping into my feed and I want to know how you trigger the algo-gods. I'm working closely with a few amazing brands to help leverage their brand and amplify their voice on LinkedIn. We have a few spots before we're booked out, so if you want to hit 2021. According to LinkedIn, profiles with professional headshots get 14x more views! Whaaaaat?! I had a fun profile image up before which I adored because it always looked like I was pointing to my content... But it was time for this Sorceress to shake things up. Profile headshot tips... 👉 Use Color: Black and white images tend to sink into the background. 👉 Smile: It is welcoming and approachable for new connections. 👉 Avoid Sunglasses: Afterall, the eyes are the windows to the soul! 👉 Play With A Color That Pops: This makes you eye-catching! You will notice a new trend of people using a circle around their profile to stand out, play with it and what works best for your personal brand! Got more photo tips?!
