In the workplace, effectively communicating authentic appreciation and encouragement isn’t one-size-fits-all, nor is it restricted to a single language of appreciation. The best way to express your gratitude in the workplace starts with asking others their preferences so you can better relate to one another and deepen your relationships. There are five languages of workplace #appreciation : Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Acts of Service, Tangible Gifts, and Appropriate Physical Touch. This week, let’s breakdown how to effectively communicate using them, actions you can take to support each style, and things to avoid. #2: QUALITY TIME⏰ How To Communicate The best way to use this language is to give others your undivided attention. Actions To Take Schedule time for one-on-one, uninterrupted, and focused conversations. Maintain eye contact. Arrange activities outside of the office to hang out together with colleagues. Each of these actions will build trust and deepen team relationships. Things To Avoid Four words: put away your phone! #leadership #communication #appreciation …see more

I started my new #esports podcast to learn and to have fun. Because of that there is no failure. I wish more people had the opportunity to experience that. It’s freeing. Like a musician creating for the love of music or to express a feeling. Like an athlete practicing because they love the game. Like a scientist running experiments because they love solving problems. Success is a lot more fun when you’re working on something you love. Failure is a lot more fun too. Check out Humans that Game on iTunes (or wherever you listen to podcasts) to learn more about the fastest growing entertainment phenomenon of this generation. #justQ 🖖🏽🖤 #entrepreneurship …see more

Renowned investor and Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett once said, “You can determine the strength of a business over time by the amount of agony they go through in raising prices.” Buffett and his partner, Charlie Munger, realized that customers come to depend on products and become desensitized to price once they form routines around a product. The duo have pointed to consumer psychology as the rationale behind their famed investments in companies like See’s Candies and Coca Cola. Buffett and Munger understand that habits give companies greater flexibility to increase prices. For example, in the free-to-play video game business, it is standard practice for game developers to delay asking users to pay money until they have played consistently and habitually. Once the compulsion to play is in place and the desire to progress in the game increases, converting users into paying customers is much easier. The real money lies in selling virtual items, extra lives, and special powers. As of the conclusion of 2017, Candy Crush Saga had been downloaded nearly 3 Billion times. The game’s “freemium” model converted some of those users into paying customers. This netted the game’s maker nearly $1 million per day. #ProductDesign #HabitForming #ConsumerPsychology #Hooked …see more
Our notions regarding both work and fun are limiting. Work does not have to feel burdensome and, surprisingly, fun does not have to feel good. Making our work itself the source of refreshing newness is part of the secret to erasing the lines between work and play. I share some easy steps we can take in an excellent article written by Devishobha Chandramouli for Entrepreneur Media (link in the comments)! Why do we do what we do? We've seen and heard so many stories as part of LinkedIn's #InItTogether #WomenAtWork campaigns. Sharing mine - I entered finance partly because I was broke at 20 when my father passed away and I wanted to ensure it doesn't happen again. Luckily, my first 'job' was as a financial adviser specialising in #ethicalinvestments. I concluded it was too early and that consumers would have to become more activist. The concept has evolved to #ESGInvesting #ImpactInvesting. I've followed it all along - would love to do more in this space #financeforgood I've only taken jobs with employers whose business model I could relate to; both my employers researched funds and got paid by the users of that research. Still fascinated how others don't. I was drawn to financial education during the global financial crisis. I attempted adviser education and failed to convince them they needed it. I am now trying #investoreducation - let's see. Some days I wonder if this is worth it...other days I smile and think I wouldn't have it any other way. If you #StartWithWhy, you will find a way. Why do you? …see more

Ohhh Pleeeazzze! Having no job is worse for your stress than no job? Have any of the authors of the study ever been unemployed for any length of time? A friend of mine is staring down unemployment and let me tell you- it is stressful! Not knowing when you might get an interview let alone a job offer is way, way more stressful than working along side toxic co-workers, an inept boss or poor management . #BadJobNoJob …see more
Moscow’s department of health started using an artificial intelligence platform to detect symptoms of lung cancer in CT scans. This is part of the Russian government healthcare project to increase early stage lung cancer detection. So they incorporated A.I. in the core of the entire healthcare system, which is a giant step! A whole country invited a tech company to aid official decisions, which will improve efficiency and patient outcomes on the national level. 5 things you should try to stay healthy with technologies 1) Keep track of your daily physical activity (I use a Fitbit Ionic device for this purpose, but I can also recommend Polar Chest Strap. You can also find free in-built health apps on your phone.) 2) Use a smart sleep alarm to make sure you wake up easily (Several Fitbit and Apple Watch models have this feature. As an alternative, Sleep as Android is a great free app.) 3) Do an ECG analysis from time to time (mine is Kardia's newest 6-lead device - unfortunately I don't know any free alternatives for that.) 4) Check your blood pressure once a month (I do it with iHealth, but grandma's old blood pressure cuff will also do.) 5) Check your skin lesions (I have skin lesions I should get checked out regularly - in the meantime, I re-check them with SkinVision. Their assessment is free, with possible upgrades.) How many things out of these 5 are you doing already? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #wearable #health #healthy #fromchancetochoice …see more
