Research by Harvard shows that venture funds that increased their number of female partners by 10%, have 1.5% spike in overall fund returns and had 9.7% more profitable exits -- an impressive figure given that only 28.8% of all VC investments have a profitable exit. 5 occasions when I hated digital health technologies: 1. When my smartwatch displayed a heart rate of 40 after running like a beast (it showed the correct rate afterwards) 2. When the smart scale did everything but showing my weight - in its most confused moments, it just says "Hi 🙂" 3. When the tricorder claimed my SpO2 was 90% (dreadfully low!), and suggested that it might be due to nail polish 4. When my wife's blood pressure results suddenly appeared on my phone (while she connected hers to the device and she was there, already registered) 5. When, with my social media manager (2 geeks), we were looking for the power button on a running tracker for 3 weeks - we even tried crowdsourcing solutions in polls This is also part of the charm of digital health! Health IT vs digital health? Here is the Gary rule to clear up this misconception. If a technological issue comes up in a healthcare setting such as the anti-virus software becomes outdated and we have to call Gary, the IT guy, as he is alone capable of solving it what-ever methods he uses, it’s an IT issue. If Gary is not enough to solve the issue because more stakeholders of healthcare must get involved, (e.g. letting patients bring the data of their trackers into the practice and merging that with electronic medical records), it’s digital health. The genome editing technique, CRISPR, is making it possible to create designer babies just like how the Chinese scientists did a few months ago. Ethically, I'm against the wide-open possibility to create designer babies, but I very much support the idea to "cut out"/prevent diseases if we know about them.
