It was a late night in September, 9:44 pm, to be exact. At a very small airport, in a German city most have never heard of, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess patiently waited for the arrival of a special guest: Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Musk had arrived to Germany a few days earlier to visit the construction site of Tesla's new Gigafactory in Berlin, followed by meetings with German politicians and work on another Tesla-related project. But before heading home, Musk made time to take Volkswagen's new entry into the electric vehicle space, the VW ID.3, out for a spin. "You know, this is a mainstream car," Diess reminded Musk. "Not a race machine." Musk chuckled, undeterred. On the surface, it was a chummy meeting between friendly rivals. A chance for one CEO to show off his company's newest product, and the other to check out the competition. Or was it? As the world has changed, the need for emotional intelligence has only intensified. The key is not to remove emotions from our decision-making process or to pursue some robotic form of existence. Instead, you must learn to deal with those emotions in a productive way. (Today's column: Wed.Nov 29.2017) #growth #emotionalintelligence #EI #EQ #MakeEmotionsWorkForYouNotAgainstYou …see more

A lot of our tasks are recurring and can be automated. For example, if you send the same kind of emails all the time, create a template where all you have to do is fill in the blanks. By doing this you'll be able to save time and effort!

China has emerged as the largest market for luxury goods in the world. My colleague Daniel Zipser and his team recently conducted an exhaustive study of this large and dynamic market, "China Luxury Report 2019: How young Chinese consumers are reshaping global luxury." Here's a short video with some highlights from their research, and a few nuggets from the report: **China delivered more than half the global growth in luxury spending between 2012–18, and is expected to deliver 65 percent of the world’s additional spending heading into 2025. **In 2018, Chinese consumers at home and abroad spent 770 billion RMB ($115 billion) on luxury items—equivalent to a third of the global spend—with each luxury-consuming household spending an average of 80,000 RMB per year. **Their outlay is set to almost double to 1.2 trillion RMB by 2025, when 40 percent of the world’s spending on luxury goods will be conducted by Chinese consumers. I did an unusually candid Podcast with Mark Pollard the other day. Mark has a superb Podcast and asks wonderfully powerful precise questions. It's very odd to answer personal questions about mental health on a Podcast and then promote it like this, feels like celebrating vulnerability in a branding or promotional exercise, but some of you may like this. https://lnkd.in/dYm2Y7f https://lnkd.in/dUpFvdr …see more

As legacy media companies compete to provide the latest, most terrifying #COVID19 updates, I'm proud and honored to work for an international #journalism organization that provides relevant context and insight about global issues which enlightens instead of frightens. This week's line-up of stories on Global Press Journal .com helps you see more than the death and dying part of living during the time of the new #coronavirus . We'll keep providing stories that help re-imagine what international reporting could--and should--look like. Read this collaboration about how some marketplaces on the African continent are coping with COVID-19, produced by journalists Beatrice Lamwaka , Kudzai Mazvarirwofa , @Prudence Phiri and @Francoise Mbuyi Mutombo. When I met Brittany "Tru" Kellman in Ferguson Missouri back in July of 2018, I knew I was in the presence of greatness. This young mother, community activist and #reproductivejustice warrior was weaving a quilt of #maternalhealth , #perinatalsupport , #compassion , #socialjustice in her community, a town that exploded onto the world stage after the August 2014 police-related shooting death of Michael Brown. Brown's death ignited the already boiling cauldron of race in America and elevated conversations about inequity across a broad range of topics. Through my reporting on #maternalmortality and #AfricanAmerican women for @National Geographic, I met many amazing women like Tru Kellman. So it's exciting for me to see her work elevated as it was this morning on the NBC News #TodayShow . As Missouri's first fully-licensed certified nurse #midwife , Tru is a might champion for reproductive health in America. #globalhealth #midwifery #midwives #doulas #birthworkers …see more

We’re living in an overall era of #dehumanization , and the issue of #qualityhousing as it pertains to #healthequity is a critically important element of the discussion. That's how journalist and Executive Producer of NPR's Latino USA Maria Hinojosa brilliantly launched her role as moderator for Friday's #AspenIdeasHealth panel, "The Influence of Housing on Health.” A man I used to work with in #Nairobi should be attending meetings like the #IdeasFestival . He was one of the most righteous, savvy #communicationsexperts I've ever worked with. Jeff Haskins was in the prime of his life and the stride of his expertise when he died in 2012 at age 32. I don't think I'll ever fully recover from the loss of his brilliance and commitment, but I did promise that I would try to incorporate a bit of his spirit into every #mediaconsulting opportunity I got, like the one he brought me in on at The African Union in February of 2012. So I had to attend the Housing and Health panel on Jeff's behalf, to give a big hug to his cousin, Former #Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, and to remind myself that connection and positive energy are the best forms of #healthcare available—and they’re free. Do you want 50k for an idea? Founders, this is for you. Last year, I joined a creative-based accelerator, Collider. That’s how The Trusted Voice came to be. The skills and tools I gained from being part of Collider have given me the resilience to create. Apply to join Collider… If you’re a…. * founder who needs funding. * if you got an MVP and need more support * you’re a creative + non-technical founder Apply to Collider & Gain: ❤Amazing Mentors like: - Jamie Pride , ex-CEO of realestate.com.au - Ian Mason , he founded Virgin Startups, he gets entrepreneurship - Peter Laurie , talk to him about tech 💰 50k seed, to focus and accelerate your product-idea. It’s all about scalability. 💯The 3-month programme allows you to focus, (re)learn and fill the gaps in your knowledge. ✅ But the biggest asset I gained from this…. Post accelerator-wise: Confidence in myself and to pull through A better understanding of product-market fit I gained life-long friends, who are founder themselves. The main thing is that the support continues afterwards. The journey of a startup is a long one and it starts with leveraging opportunities like this one. If you have questions, reach out via my Li-DM. But there are a few days left to apply (link below). #stringstory on #startup …see more
