I hate the sound of my voice. Whenever I replayed a video, I would run out of the room. It's so embarrassing hearing myself. That was 5 years when I first started my journey on video making. I like to share a big epiphany... Me saying I hate my voice. Is me really saying "I don't believe in myself". It's true. We all have this inner hate within us. It likes to squish our worth. It's stopping us from sharing our opinions. It's scared of critiques. It has a big fear of failing. But really it's us not doing our thing. The less we do, the more silent we are. I was always also making excuses to not create. There are days when I struggle to create. Like I don't have the right equipment. In this video, I couldn't find my tripod. But I created the video anyway. I used my elbow to share this tip with you. Now I just create. I'm not a movie star. Nor do I have a production team. It's just me and my smartphone. It's time to find your voice. I'm glad I did, there's are many doors waiting for you. Now my inner voice is a champion. Telling me, to get shit done. But I'm here to whisper to you: "Be a trusted voice" "Do your thing" "There's someone waiting to hear you share your knowledge and goodness to the world". #stringtheory on #personalbranding #videotip …see more

TRACTION: Any action that pulls us toward what we want to do. These actions are done with intent. ✔️ DISTRACTION: Any action that pulls us away from what we want to do. These actions are done to escape. ❌ Distraction isn’t about the thing you’re doing per se. It’s about whether you are doing something you planned to do or not. If you’re scrolling through the news when you planned on working, you’re experiencing distraction. But the reverse is also true. If you’re fixated on work when you planned to read the news, you’re also experiencing distraction. Understanding what is and isn’t distraction is the key to turning our values into time. What’s one of your values? And how do you use your time to ensure that you acting in accordance with them by knowing the difference between traction and distraction? #Indistractable #Values #TimeManagement #Planning …see more
"..Life is too short to put up with a job you hate, a boss who demeans you, or a company with no soul. Many people convince themselves that they can put up with a job or career situation that makes them unhappy because they need the income, because they don’t know if they can find another job, or for some other reason. But truth is none of us knows how long we have on this earth, and spending too much of it in a bad situation will only make you miserable and regretful. If you’re in this situation, take a step today, no matter how small, toward a better situation" …see more
My first interaction with Mark VanAntwerp was in 2010, where we found ourselves arguing in a hallway for 30 minutes about thread safety for device to services code and stateless monitoring. I'm not sure who won the argument, but we'll just go with me to be safe :). Since then, I've been fortunate to know Mark as a stellar technical leader, awesome father and husband, and good movie buddy and personal friend. And today, I'm proud to welcome Mark to Amazon as a Director of Technology in Kindle Goodreads - one of my absolute favorite products!! Mark, I know you'll do a stellar job and Amazon is very proud to have you!! Welcome onboard, and never forget it's always Day One - especially on your official Day One :). …see more
I got the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter 20 years ago. When I started the 3-year course in 1997, it was known as amongst the hardest exams to crack. I wanted to prove a point. Every year, I renewed the membership to keep the right to use the suffix after my name, as I said in this video. But today, I feel I no longer need to be defined by it. Today, my credibility doesn’t rely on a qualification. Today, I become a learner again. (Of course, I still value the continuing professional education and networking benefits of CFA Institute membership, as I also said in the video, so will continue renewing). …see more
So you’ve heard YouTube encourages online radicalization through its algorithm? Umm, not so much. A just published study at Cornell University shows radicalization claims are not true. On the contrary, these data suggest that YouTube's recommendation algorithm actively discourages viewers from visiting radicalizing or extremist content! “Instead, the algorithm is shown to favor mainstream media and cable news content over independent YouTube channels with slant towards left-leaning or politically neutral channels.” Check out the study for yourself in the comments 👇 #Hooked #YouTube #Content #Algorithms …see more
You ALL have unofficial recommendations We in HR do that all the time. We get a candidate’s CV and you find out he/she was working with a friend of yours. Why not call that friend to get an unbiased opinion? As a sourcer, you have every right to use any (legal and legitimate) channel to gather information about a candidate. But how much do you professionally trust a friend? How close was this friend to your candidate? What do you do if the process is discret? There’s no wrong or right answer. I treat recommendations like perfume - I enjoy their smell, but I’ll never drink them. The interview process is 5X more important than any recommendation, official or unofficial. Yes, you should get yourself a good set of people who will gladly recommend you. But if you don’t heavily invest in your interview skills, the best recommendations in the world won’t help you. #people #hr #career #interviews …see more

Consumers of Sugar Beware : It might be way worse for us than eating those yummy mashed potatoes or potato chips ! Not to be a bore before Thanksgiving but this is a really important article about sugar and it's impact on our health . Be well and be safe during this holiday season . Selected Excerpt : The documents show that in 1968 a trade group called the Sugar Research Foundation, known today as the Sugar Association, funded a research project on animals to shed light on the connection between sugar and heart health. But when the research pointed to a mechanism by which sugar might promote not only heart disease but also bladder cancer, the industry group ended the study and never published the results. …see more
Just received a copy of the book "How Virtual Therapeutics Will Revolutionize Medicine" by Brennan Spiegel, MD, MSHS . Not only Brennan and his team pioneered in putting enough evidence behind VR-based therapies, but he also managed to compile everything that matters around VR in care into a well-written and easily digestible book. Experimental VR setups, patient experiences, child birth and a LOT of practical examples. My favourite part is how the book describes the importance of physicians working with their patients while using VR as an advanced technology. This should be a prescription for the adoption of every digital health technology out there. You can find the book here: https://lnkd.in/erhnEuy PS: No, you cannot read the book with a VR device on your head. I mean NOT YET. #book #reading #VR #virtualreality #digitalhealth …see more
