It’s a convenient excuse given that we love to blame others. The tech itself alone is not responsible for our tech overuse. Some of the responsibility falls on our shoulders as well. I’ve found that there are mainly two types of people when it comes to tech overuse: - A Blamer, someone who assigns the blame to iPhones, email, the “modern world,” etc. - A Shamer, someone who shames themself for their own lack of control The right approach is to be a Claimer, someone who acknowledges that we didn’t necessarily invent any of these distractions, but that the responsibility still falls on us to use them well. I had a conversation with David Pakman, MBA about this topic and how to fend off “learned helplessness” on The David Pakman Show. Check out the full clip at the link in the comments below! After watching, share some steps you’ve taken in an effort to take responsibility for your distractions. #Indistractable #TheDavidPakmanShow #HumanBehavior #Tech …see more

What should a long-term investor in India read? I read and tweet out posts - using handle @MoneyMgmtIndia - from LiveMint and ET every morning, as well as from the 400-odd accounts in the FinTwit community. I also read publications from some asset managers in public and private markets, consulting firms, law firms, NGOs etc. I will share summaries/take-aways in future. Does anyone know about good academic papers on Indian markets apart from EPW? Would love to hear more suggestions - specifically on investment opportunities in #India #InvestingInIndia Pls email ideas to editor@moneymanagementindia.net or tag posts with Money Management India …see more
Out of the mouths of Babes... Many of you already know what an incredible writer and journalist my daughter is. #mombrag As a freshman in college she is doing some intern editing work for an accounting publication who shall remain nameless. She says to me "Mom, when I edit these articles and the authors make is sound like the Cloud is New, it makes me laugh." Then she visited a large Editor in Chiefs meeting at a Chicago newspaper. It was all baby boomer men, a couple women, and a twenty-eight year old woman with an ipad who pretty much ran the meeting. All the decisions were made based on analytics the keeper of the ipad had. She said, "I want to learn how to do the analytics on the ipad". Watch out GENZ is coming! #business #technology #innovation #ai #data #accounting #cloud #radicalcpa …see more

This is huge! The US government’s largest national health insurance plan decided to reimburse hospitals for the use of a deep learning model that spots signs of stroke so patients can receive time-critical treatment (up to $1,040 per patient for each use). The app called Viz LVO is the first A.I. software to be covered under Medicare's New Technology Add-on Payment program. The program covers the cost of the accepted breakthrough technologies. "Viz LVO classifies blocked blood vessels in CT scans of the brain with 90 percent accuracy. When it identifies a potential stroke victim, it automatically notifies a specialist to review the case, bypassing the usual radiologist review. The model screens out roughly 90 percent of scans, dramatically reducing the number that require a specialist’s attention. The app has been shown to accelerate diagnosis and improve patient outcomes." #ai #digitalhealth #artificialintelligence #healthinsurance …see more

Dante Labs , the Italian company that sequenced my whole genome last year, offered me to try their COVID-19 antibody test. As I usually travel quite a lot and I expect to travel again from around Q4 this year, it would be great to know whether I have any antibodies against the coronavirus. They use the ELISA technology, which means it's not a rapid test, so I have to send the sample back. They claim that the test is good for population screening but is not appropriate for diagnostic testing. They also say that the analytical sensitivity is so high that the results are guaranteed and validated with an amount of blood that is as low as 5 drops of blood. I will test this too as I struggled to get enough blood into the tube. Maybe I'm a robot after all. #COVIDtest #COVIDAntibodyTesting #COVIDScreening #COVIDTestKit #COVIDTesting …see more
This WIRED article argues that A.I. couldn't save us from COVID-19, because it lags a step behind us - it's simply not ready yet. Maybe next time, at another pandemic. We believe it's us who weren't ready to use its full potential. And yes, we agree that it will have a better chance at the next pandemic - what's more, we won’t be able to tackle the next outbreak without implementing A.I. way before it appears. Where do you stand on this question? Who/what wasn't ready, humanity or artificial intelligence? This is our take on this: https://lnkd.in/gYXAdW6 #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus #AI #artificialintelligence #deeplearning #machinelearning …see more
A rapid systematic review just came out in the BMJ . It aimed at reviewing and critically appraising reports of prediction models for 1) diagnosing coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19) in patients with suspected infection, 2) for prognosis of patients with covid-19, and 3) for detecting people in the general population at risk of being admitted to hospital for covid-19-related pneumonia. It's quite devastating what it found and clearly shows why implementing A.I. into the clinical practice is going to be so hard without evidence-based data. They found that the proposed models are poorly reported, at high risk of bias, and their reported performance is probably optimistic. Only one study used patient data from outside of China. We have to exclude hype from those papers and push the medical/scientific community to stick to the standards of reporting about A.I.-based technologies. https://lnkd.in/g_xfSrg #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence #deeplearning #machinelearning #covid19 #coronavirus …see more

Dr. Ádám Schmidt, a Hungarian physician who put our Ask Me About Digital badge on his door just shared this story: "I'm glad to tell you that a dad whose daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy asked me to help him find a digital health solution for detecting seizures. I was happy to answer all of his questions about the sensors available on the market and suggested them to use one of it (Empatica Embrace) to detect when the girl has seizures. They were really happy to try a 21st century solution for detecting seizures and helping to feel their daughter safe."
