It's your right to share your journey of who you are and what made you. I love stories especially origin stories as the wisdom of gems are shared. Your origin story helps articulate who you are as a person. For me, it always starts with my mum. My mum is my hero and had to escape the Vietnam war to find freedom and stability. Are your kids getting enough time for free play? Free play is time a child has to interact with other children on their own -- without the watchful gaze of parents, coaches, and teachers.. It's self-directed and an end in itself, rather than part of some organized activity. It's a method kids use to learn their “place” in the world. It’s a magical time where kids learn how the world works and that it doesn't revolve around them. Nowadays, time for play is at an all-time low. Today, you don’t hear kids playing around the neighborhood. Kids don’t have an opportunity to go to the park and run around without being protected and monitored 24/7. This is especially true with the outbreak of the coronavirus. But here’s the silver lining: we can use technology to enable free play. Video conferencing with their friends allows children to connect while safely social distancing. My daughter plays cards, makes origami, or even builds Legos with her friends over Facetime. What's one way you motivate yourself to finish projects? When I was working on my second book, Indistractable, I told a friend of mine that I'd give him $10,000 if I didn’t meet my deadline. Within the first three days of working there, I was scolded for moving a chair that had not been moved in 30 years, not using the right paperclips for a project, and, to make matters even worse, apparently I don’t know how to put away a pizza properly after a company meeting! A company that gets so bent out of shape over small matters fails to look at the overall big picture! And, worthy of mention, is that I took it upon myself to put the pizza away since everyone else left it sitting on the table! LOL Hearing your perspective on businesses and innovation in you Radical! series, I decided my new “great” job was not the right match for me. Some companies have a difficult time mentally shifting into the 21st-century and it will eventually be the reason for their demise. I say ‘So Long, Sayonara and Adios’ to Skilled Nursing Facilities. One-in-three patients in skilled nursing facilities suffered a medication error, infection or some other type of harm related to their treatment—much higher medical error rates than hospitals. And 60% of the errors are preventable according to physician reviews. The injuries and deaths were caused by substandard treatment, inadequate monitoring, delays or the failure to provide needed care (According to CMS) With over 70% of the Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) operating as for-profit, and with pressure from company owners to maximize revenues, it should come as no surprise that ‘word on the street’ is to stay away from SNF unless there is a very rare exception. (Yes, I know there are some ‘good ones’ out there by data will tell you it’s about 5% of the market.) The rise in post-acute options like Home Care is hopeful, and promises more personalized, technology-enabled, timely care...all while in the comforts of home.
