Still love this Christmas tradition in Iceland. The ultimate antidote to consumerism. Here’s an article I wrote a few years ago (one of my most fun to write). Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. #Christmas #reading #gifts #books …see more
I'm pleased to share our new report on China's auto market, based on a survey of 2,500 consumers across 20 cities. While sales have taken a hit this year, China is still the world’s largest automotive market, and demand from both prospective and existing car owners remains strong. My colleagues at McKinsey believe the current downturn will be short-lived. Download the full report for free on our website: https://lnkd.in/f9EuQ-v #China #automotive #autos #consumers …see more
Those property shows where people decide to upsticks and move to "their place in the sun" always give me odd pleasure. I hope camera crews around the world are now tracking young couples moving to ruined castles in Albania to run their online company, or young families trying home schooling in a Morrocan Riad, or people setting up a WeWork on an island in Belize. Personally I'm tempted by a houseboat at times, just drift around the world on this. …see more
Really love this piece about Andrew Yang. I have felt for the last 10 years that the idea of politics being left wing or right wing makes zero sense in the modern eras. Bernie Sanders and Trump shared more supporters than with people on their own "side". Politicians either look forwards or backwards. They either try to reclaim the glory of the past, or to anticipate and make the most of what's coming. It's good to finally see debates about change and what technology means brought about by Yang. https://lnkd.in/dHBrMsk …see more
It's quite strange that people still insist of talking about the Gartner Hype Cycle, as if it's actually something that is remotely accurate or helpful. It's not the case that it's inaccurate or sometimes wrong, it's just not remotely true or helpful or has really ever once mapped a close path to reality. The names of tech on it are so vague as to be useless. The names virtually always drop off from one year to the next. And most transformative technology hasn't ever appeared on it. …see more
We’re seeing more #womenownedbusinesses , more female #investors , and—what’s perhaps even more important—more brands waving their “women-owned and operated” flag. It’s become a badge of honor, rather than something to hide. But even in 2020, there are still stumbling blocks that women #entrepreneurs continue to face. …see more

Great piece by Kenfield Griffith , co-founder and CEO of mSurvey™ , about the power and value of harnessing data and consumer information in African economies. I feel privileged to have witnessed the evolution of products like @M-Pesa and other initiatives of Safaricom Limited during my years in #Kenya, so it's exciting to learn about their latest entry, The Consumer Wallet. …see more

Global #trade is in free fall, dragging down production too. Real negative effects of the #tradewar
How big is the #TradeWar ? If all the #Trump #tariffs are implemented, the US effective tariff rate would be the highest since World War II
Provocative data from The Economist - why are English soccer/football clubs so much better at business than they are at the game itself?
More interesting stuff on American attitudes from Pew Research Center. Look at Dem vs Rep on college, media.
Fascinating from The Economist and Pew Research Center on national identity: much higher bar to being considered "American" than "Swedish", but much lower than to be "Hungarian"
