Tears are a promising source for biomarkers, as they often contain levels of various analytes that are similar to those found in the blood. Examples of clinically relevant indicators found in tears include sodium, which can indicate dry eye disease, and glucose, a marker of diabetes. The impact of digital health technology and patient improvements on the future of 20 medical specialties. We drew up a “heat map” of the various specialties along these two lines: the impact of technology as well as the extent of patient involvement. As we could finally picture the various fields on one map, it was also easier to assign specific skills to them. Giving a keynote to a huge group of physicians is always a challenge. A few days ago, this was a group of physicians working in mostly private clinics in Switzerland and wanted to hear about how technologies change the way we practice medicine. I talked about the importance of patient empowerment and how digital health technologies can let them enjoy their job instead of doing administration all the time with a lot of screen time. Later, I got an email from a professor who saw me claiming I'm wrong and this job cannot get any better.
