In 2015, then Nation Media Group health reporter Eunice Kilonzo wrote a compelling story about a man named Alex Madaga, who spent 18 hours in the back of a Nairobi ambulance bleeding in his brain because the city's Kenyatta National Hospital did not have an ICU bed for him. I lived in Nairobi then, and remember being chilled to the bone envisioning myself needing emergency care. I was lucky during my 8 years in #Kenya, and through God's grace never had a medical scare. But Kenya's fragile health care system is a nightmare across all socio-economic sectors. Madaga's eventual death, and the harrowing impact on the young emergency tech who cared for him, led to today's Nairobi premiere of "18 Hours," a feature film by Irũngũ Houghton and his creative partners. Houghton's passion for communication, policy development and social justice compelled him to collaborate on the film, to amplify Madaga's tragic story with the goal of improving health care services and access in Kenya. I look forward to eventually seeing "18 Hours," and following the impact I hope it will make. #18HoursFilm #Africa #healthcare #globalhealth #globaldevelopment …see more
Since I'm thinking about women in journalism these days, I was stoked to read about Dana Canedy , the new Administrator of the Pulitzer Prize Board. Canedy spent more than two decades at the The New York Times after reporting for papers in Cleveland and Palm Beach, Fla., moving from Times business reporter, bureau chief, and senior editor, into administrative positions. She is not only the first woman in the role of Pulitzer Prize Administrator, she's the first person of color and the youngest. And Dana is an incredible role model for all women in journalism. Just watched Michelle Obama's last speech as First Lady of the United States. Can't stop crying. So blessed to have witnessed her grace, beauty and intellect in my lifetime.
without knowing exactly what type of “blockchain” tech this startup uses, and having faced the nightmare of airline managed biometric boarding once, as well as the now routine multi id checks we all face, i would welcome a zkp fueled layer that allows for secure & private confirmation of identification. …see more

Small is Beautiful but Payment Banks are not Paying: Each new entrant in the banking space has a different story to tell. Utkarsh Small Finance Bank and Suryoday Small Finance Bank are readying for their IPOs. Jana Small Finance Bank is back in the black. AU Small Finance Bank is the most expensive bank in India. And, Jio Payments Bank has big plans to take the payments space by storm. What else, the group may have an NBFC to complement it! #bsbankingforum https://lnkd.in/fDy6UQm …see more
The use of voice technology for making purchases had been expanding even before the pandemic, but the push for touchless payments has given the sector a huge boost as a commerce enabler over the last six months. Kris Zanuldin , Amazon Pay 's head of product, tells me the challenge now is creating ‘hero’ use cases for voice. Here are a few that he sees gaining traction. …see more
A week ago today, the #Fed made official its plans to build and operate a real-time #payments network in the U.S. With a rollout planned for 2024, it’s not exactly moving the payments ecosystem forward, faster, to having a brand new set of ubiquitous real-time payments rails. And that will only slow things down for some, while others will use their assets and the next half-decade to make hay while the faster, even real-time, payments sun shines. …see more
This is #myboy ! It was date night (Mother/son dance) at his all boys high school! We had a great time. Aside from that, every boy, young man, (How did he get to be almost 18) who he saw greeted him with a handshake. They also greeted the Moms the same way. These are teenagers. It wasn’t just a couple kids... it was the whole gymnasium, I watched interact with these non traditional high school manners. This is very different than interactions with my daughter’s peers when she was at the public high school. Both kids are receiving equally equivalent educations as we have outstanding public schools in our neighborhood. But their cultures are extremely different..His high school has an expectation of social respect and an educational excellence driven culture. Where adult like behaviors are expected and celebrated. Every year their is a new class of young men who pick up these behaviors and culture. So my question to you... In a rapidly growing organization where, just like high school, 25% of the organization is new, how do you make sure the culture of social and work excellence is not diluted but getting stronger. All suggestions welcome? #culture #culturematters #culturetransformation #radicalcpa #startup #leadership #cpa …see more

The real problem with workplace distraction is that we can’t TALK about the problem of workplace distraction. People feel like they can’t speak up. If they voice their concerns about constant interruptions at work, unnecessary meetings, and an “always-on” culture, they’ll be seen as lazy and like they aren’t team players. Now imagine the alternative. Imagine an environment where people feel free to voice their concerns, explain how they can be more productive, and are open about their issues. In that work environment, you can solve problems a lot faster and a lot more effectively. This is the issue. We can’t talk about workplace distraction. I recently spoke to Emna Ghariani of Veamly about the root causes of distraction, how to deal with it in the workplace, and more! I’ve included a link to the episode in the comments section! Working from home presents its own distraction challenges. Are you able to talk with your employer about these challenges? #Indistractable #Workplace #ProblemSolving #Culture …see more

For a cost of jean, be an investor for good. I geek'd out with James Bartle , founding CEO of Outland Denim . They are raising 2million dollars. So far, they raised 1million with 600 investors. Still, listen to the video interview - we talk about what motivated him to start... and it was because he wanted to stop human trafficking. Now, Outland Denim is creating a brand for the people.
