With a simple apology, Marcus Mariota demonstrated authenticity, respect, and humility. As a parent to two wonderful kids, I know how exhausting it can be to instill lessons like these. You're like the coach of your own team: Every lesson you teach, every effort to prepare them, makes for another tiring day of practice. But those lessons add up. Eventually, those kids will be put in a situation where all that training comes into play, where they get the chance to show what they're made of. That's the 'big game' you've been getting them ready for. And when they perform well, your heart swells with joy--making it all worth the effort. Excited to get my pre-publication copy of New World, Inc.: The Making of America by England’s Merchant Adventurers, co-authored by my friend Dr. Simon Targett , former senior editor at The Financial Times. Their bold thesis: that a group of innovative entrepreneurs, embracing disruption and seeking their fortune, were the true founders of America—not the Pilgrims. Targett and his co-author argue that the birth of America is, in fact, a business story. The book is available from Little, Brown & Company starting March 20th on Amazon here: http://amzn.to/2oio447 …see more

I’m sure people don’t have an obvious sense of what to do quickly and what to do slowly. There are as many things people and companies decide to do quickly that should be done far more slowly. And as many things that should happen quickly that somehow happen slowly. Often seemingly with poor explanations. Just the handling of Covid alone has been a masterclass in both errors. …see more
Is it just me. But the option “turn mute off” causes my brain to go into a meltdown of stupidity from cognitive dissonance. The logo somehow makes it even less clear, I’m turning a mode on, that will make something not happen, and now you’ve made the logo go red.

I'm constantly teased about my interest in neglected tropical diseases like trachoma and leprosy and the global movement to eradicate them. But learning about and working for that movement took my #globalhealth knowledge and expertise to the next level. So to join in on today's global commemoration of #WorldNTDDay , I'm celebrating the contribution of Alice Ball, the African American chemist who developed the first effective treatment for leprosy. This one’s for you, #Kenya ...a performance by phenomenal rapper King Kaka ! Not only can he spit rhymes, but King Kaka has begun a campaign to help donate and distribute sanitary pads to girls, who often miss many weeks of school in developing countries because they can’t afford sanitary hygiene products.
