Kotlin becomes #1 fastest growing programming language according to GitHub; it grew 2.5x last year. Kotlin is a Java based language, but it’s more flexible & results in less lines of codes. It’s used by companies like Google, Square, Pinterest & Atlassian.

Humanizing Healthcare. You probably think it exists already, but you’d be incorrect. Healthcare providers and the systems of care delivery were not established for the patient but rather were organized around the priorities of the doctors and nurses. Each one of us knows what it’s like to be caught-up in the “spin cycle “ of our current healthcare system and we know that it can be impersonal, ineffectual and downright maddening. Bravo to all those working to bring the “human” back into health care. Selected Excerpt : “Achieving humanization of the [healthcare] culture will allow us to focus on the needs of the patients, families, and professionals, meeting the real reason of being for the organization. The fundamental elements needed: leadership, teamwork, scientific evidence, communication, and people-centered care.” …see more

My Food Dream Comes True: It's not about calories! (Yah) ...But it is about eating more of what ‘God Created,’ such as fruits and veggies and less processed grains, snacks, canned goods, refined sugars and fats. Good news for American farmers and our local bakers...Not good news for the food industry conglomerates. So eat up! ...those apples, pears, carrots , beans, fish, wild rice.... Selected Excerpt : “The research lends strong support to the notion that diet quality, not quantity, is what helps people lose and manage their weight most easily in the long run. It also suggests that health authorities should shift away from telling the public to obsess over calories and instead encourage Americans to avoid processed foods that are made with refined starches and added sugar, like bagels, white bread, refined flour and sugary snacks and beverages...” …see more

One of the major digital health trends I've been advocating for since 2019. The US invests not only into at-home lab tests, but into tests that work with smartphones. An excellent way to involve patients and give them better access to care. “The $30, single-use test can analyze a nasal swab and send the results to an app in around 15 minutes. It's said to be 95 percent accurate.” #athomelabtest #ellume #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus …see more

I’ve read and enjoyed these 3 books over the holidays: - Life 3.0 by Max Tegmark - The author is the founder of the Future of Life Institute, of which I’m a great fan. In life 1.0, both our hardware and software evolved; in life 2.0. we design the software, but not yet the hardware. In life 3.0 we design both the hardware and the software. What implications does this have on our world? - Math of Life and Death by Kit Yates - It describes some interesting scenarios through the language of mathematics. However, I missed the HOW when it comes to implementing its conclusions into my everyday life. - Greenlights by Matthey McConaughey - Some great principles on how he’s been searching for greenlights all his life: those signs that help him take the right turn or jump forward. I personally find them in data. We could all be looking for greenlights. It’s a great book to help us understand how. #themedicalfuturist #artificialintelligence #sciene #future #technology #book #reading #read …see more

Verily Life Sciences launched Coefficient Insurance last week. So Google takes a hand in the health insurance business too. As Google knows literally everything about us, we can imagine what advantages it has in risk management. What concerns me more is how the future of health insurance looks like where our provider has all our health data from search inquiries to our fitness trackers (Fitbit's been Google's for a year now). Tech giants are unavoidable actors in healthcare by now. This enables way more effective care, but we also have to be aware of unprecedented privacy issues. You can better understand the motives behind and potentials in each tech giant's move and how a healthcare dominated by them looks like from our ebook, 'Tech Giants in Healthcare', which we recently updated with COVID-19 relevance. Download it from Leanpub: https://lnkd.in/g_wbucU #DigitalHealth #TechGiantsHealthcare #Verily #HealthTech #FutureOfHealthcare …see more

Being digital and portable doesn't guarantee that a device will be useful. I usually show services and devices that I heartily recommend, but now here's a friendly warning about gadgets you should be cautious about - they might be just (digital) dog and pony shows! 1. Calorie count from photos. You take a photo of your food and the app tells you the nutrients it contains. It's not even accurate when you weigh portions of your food and add those to an app like MyFitnessPal, so imagine how accurate those could be, using only photos. 2. Cheap tools to measure heart rate and sleep quality. If you want to take your tracking endeavors up a notch, you can't succeed with a single app or device just above the very basic level. 3. Pulse oximetry apps. You can install them for free on your phone, but unfortunately they are inaccurate - even studies show. 4. Genetic ancestry tests. It's thrilling to take one. But don't try to gain any medical insights from it. And definitely don't try to prove anything with it at your visa application. 5. Multifunction devices that can measure your vital signs, earthquakes, and the mood of your family. Maybe even killing mosquitoes. If something sounds too good to be true, it is. Which #DigitalHealth service didn't live up to its promises for you? …see more

Medical professionals and policymakers have a huge responsibility in involving patients as partners in designing care and decision making, as well as guiding them in using the myriad of digital health technologies. Otherwise, patients may either turn to non-proven services or technological solutions they might not be able to interpret alone. In our paper, we delve into the paradigm shift digital health brings us, how it leads to an equal level partnership between patients and professionals, and how everyone is going to benefit from it. How do you imagine your role in this new world? https://lnkd.in/e7B3aNV #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #TMFI #research #physician #patient #healthtechnology …see more

What is the maximum that you would/should pay for a life-saving drug? How high is too high a cost if a drug can save 200-300 babies a year from debilitating illness or death? And ultimately, does the pricing of new technologies, especially gene therapies, enable to fulfill their promise? …see more

Clinical trials today are long and expensive. Pharma companies spend billions of dollars and still, at the end of the day a drug might not become approved. On the one hand, this creates a huge risk for them to invest into innovation, on the other hand patients sometimes have to wait for unnecessarily long until a new drug reaches the market. Moreover, we live in an era when we test new drugs on patients. In silico clinical trials aided by artificial narrow intelligence have the promise to change this by using less time, money and human resources. Do you see any ongoing clinical trials which are based on findings from deep or machine learning analyses? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice …see more

When I go on stage to deliver a keynote, no matter how I perform, it takes only about 70% of the overall success. Because if the environment is not good enough, I can't reach people. This is why I always appreciate the work of those who work in the backstage. This photo was taken in the backstage before going on stage at a Swiss event where I had a huge stage and an amazing crew backing my content. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #speaker #keynote #speakerlife …see more
