We're hiring a writer! McKinsey's Greater China Region--Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Taipei, Hong Kong, Chengdu--is growing fast. Our more than 1,000 colleagues across the region--data scientists, doctors, biochemists, coders, designers, entrepreneurs, social media gurus--help some of the most dynamic companies in the region to rethink what they do, transform their operations, and build entirely new businesses from scratch. We're looking for a gifted storyteller to help us tell our story, to our own folks inside the firm--now over 33,000-strong globally--and to the rest of the world. Someone who loves to write, is a meticulous editor, and is completely intoxicated with the power of a good story to evoke emotion, change minds, and move people to action. This is an English-language role, and demands native-speaking-level English writing ability. Speaking and reading Mandarin Chinese is also essential as most our colleagues on the ground speak and read it as their first language. You must be highly WeChat-savvy. It's a Shanghai or Beijing-based role, and you must already be here given the immigration restrictions in place. If you're interested please send me a connection request on LinkedIn and a private message. #china #storytelling (Photo by Thom Milkovic on Unsplash) …see more

From Quartz: “Time with friends, colleagues, siblings, and children diminishes over the course of a lifetime. The older we get, the person we spend the most time with is the one we see in the mirror. That’s the conclusion of a recent, fascinating analysis of data from the American Time Use Survey, an annual census by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics of how Americans spend their hours. Data scientist Henrik Lindberg combed through results from 2003 to 2015 to determine how much of that time is spent in the company of others.” https://lnkd.in/fHKBYiX …see more

Medium sized seems to be the hardest. It’s quite easy to be a thrusting small project. It’s quite easy to do little bits of innovation on the side. It’s quite easy to be big, to have dominance of a market, to have expert staff, to leverage scale for pricing , awareness etc . Oil tankers can’t change fast but they rarely have to. It’s small companies trying to get medium sized or it’s large companies trying to do medium sized things where it all gets very hard. Often it seems to be the worst of both. …see more

Big news in the research space: Forrester is buying SiriusDecisions for $245M -- my hunch is that this provides both with better scale (if somehow they can merge two very different cultures successfully), focus (Sirius's domain is marketing, product, and sales functions/tech), and competitive juice against Gartner, who was $3.3B in revenue (2017) compared to Forrester's $313.7M in 2016. (Last publicly available numbers I can find.) What does this mean to you? https://lnkd.in/eWd9Dqu …see more

Many who are getting laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic are going to be in shock. And it will be easy to fall into the "I do x" trap. I say trap because, in reality, a lot of us have more knowledge than we think we do. And way more than our job title conveys. So I thought I'd share the process I went through after leaving Netflix that allowed me to see the skillsets I had. Turned out there were way more than I thought. And it helped me to expand how I thought about opportunities going forward. I hope you find this helpful. #layoffs #skillsets #yougotthis #jobhunting #jobmarket #laidoff …see more
