Check out the strongest prediction I made for 2020: at-home lab tests! COVID-19 came and a myriad of companies started to work on at-home tests, and the first one was approved by the FDA. It means, soon you’ll have to learn how to do blood tests at home, out a blood drop. Believe me, it’s much better than to get your blood taken at a hospital. // I’ve made a collection of our TOP social media posts and contents from different perspectives that I'll share with you in the upcoming days. (holiday disclaimer: I’ll actually be relaxing and on a break from technology so these are all pre-scheduled posts... enjoy!) #athomelabtest #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology …see more
Each week until the winter holidays, I’m going to reflect on a prediction I made in The Medical Futurist ’s e-book “Top Trends in Digital Health in 2020”. Prediction #3: At-home blood testing becomes the new DNA testing ✔️ 2020 Reality: This industry had already skyrocketed without COVID, but it’s been accelerated by the coronavirus even more. There are few things with such economically favorable potential than at-home COVID tests. #predictions #predictionsversusreality #2020indigitalhealth #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #ebook …see more
Have you ever thought you’d actually love a virtual keynote? There’s no turning back to the old event regime. We speakers have to evolve, and I’m excited to keep on experimenting. As we’re on a 2D screen, essentially, we’re competing for attention with Netflix and action movies. Good thing is, there are infinite visual and cognitive possibilities a virtual keynote can offer. As for now, I think being on stage would actually limit my possibilities. Yes, I’m that excited about what we’re working on with The Medical Futurist team. So stay tuned as I’m going to share more on our progress to make the future of keynotes a reality. #evolutionofkeynotes #futureofkeynotes #virtualkeynotes #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #speaker #keynote #speakerlife …see more

Social distancing will stay with us until we have a vaccine. It's quite an accepted notion by now. So no matter which industry you work in, I'm sure you are worried about when we could get that vaccine just as I am. I just came across an up-to-date map and database of ongoing clinical trials related to COVID-19. It's based on data from the WHO Clinical Trials Search Portal for COVID-19-related clinical trials. I check it every now and then to get my hopes up. https://lnkd.in/d8k9x8t #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus #vaccine #coronavirusvaccine #covidvaccine #clinicaltrials …see more
In the span of a few days mid-March, around 30 of my upcoming keynotes were cancelled. Since then, it has been a logistical nightmare, but finally, our new studio is up and me and my crew have done around 5 keynotes in the past week or so. To be honest, I never thought that virtual keynotes could replace the ones in person and that it's possible to give spectacular keynotes with an engaging Q&A like that, but it turns out I was wrong. What has changed is how people around the world look at this digital solution and are more open to it. Also, I'm not sure if going back to business as usual is the way forward. As the technical background and what we can stream only depend on the creativity of my team, I can make sure to present even better than in person. And being close to my family is an obvious added benefit. So virtual keynotes might be the new norm and I cannot wait to let my top clients discover how it works. https://lnkd.in/gjNWcja #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #speaker #keynote #speakerlife #virtualkeynote #onlinespeaker …see more
I'm sure you feel anxiety like I do. My family has been practicing social distancing for 3 weeks; my job completely changed and might not even go back to normal ever; and I worry about my elderly relatives and friends and also those who struggle with chronic conditions and are at risk of getting infected. In these unprecedented times, I'm trying to get information from sources I know I can trust at least. In case you are looking for similar sources, here are some of those that I check daily. This is the most up-to-date database about cases per country: https://lnkd.in/gxA2SXg This is the most visual representation of the big picture (it helps me see the number of cases per day on the long-term): https://lnkd.in/g4twD6Z And I get my news from WHO: https://lnkd.in/gf2baWr I hope you will find these useful. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus …see more

As we can dive into more and more data, research groups will find and explore exciting new correlations. This paper describes how it's possible to automatically detect nocturnal hypoglycemia using a few heartbeats of raw ECG signal recorded with non-invasive, wearable devices, in healthy individuals, monitored 24 hours for 14 consecutive days. As tracking the fluctuations in blood glucose levels is crucial for diabetic patients, having a real-time, non-invasive hypoglycemia alarming system using short excerpts of ECG signal would be a tremendous addition to care. Tech and innovation magazines are hooked on 3D printed casts such as this one on my arm by EXOVITE . I can't see any reason why traditional plaster casts shouldn't be replaced by these personalized, lightweight, comfortable and waterproof alternatives. Still, it's not an option to choose them yet. Emergency medicine and telesurgery need a push which has been so far delayed by the lack of technology. 5G seems to bring a revolution in this, by providing network at greater speed, lower latency and the ability to expand beyond computers and phones to encompass the Cloud. In our newest video, we try to balance its opportunities with the risks it poses, and explain how it is going to transform healthcare fundamentally. This was the 7th genetic test I've ever had. I have done so many because I want to show you the full experience of direct-to-consumer genetic testing from collecting the sample to analyzing the results. As my background is in clinical genomics, I feel even more responsibility to provide a clear picture about what genetic testing companies can and cannot do. I wrote all my experience down of a recent genetic test by Atlas Biomed. The microbiome analysis will come out this Thursday. I hope you will find both useful. https://lnkd.in/gHJAsRe #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #wearable #health #healthy #genetics #genome #genetictest …see more

We've come a long way. I'm proud to share that our paper, Digital health is a cultural transformation of traditional healthcare, was the most read paper in 2018 in the journal mHealth. As the paper presents a hard topic, it's really amazing to see such a response from the scientific community. Thank you for your support in helping people realize why digital health is a cultural (not technological) transformation. Another good example for shady coverage. "Watson for Oncology was supposed to synthesize enormous amounts of data and come up with novel insights. But it turns out most of the data fed to it is hypothetical and not real patient data. That means the suggestions Watson made were simply based off the treatment preferences of the few doctors providing the data, not actual insights it gained from analyzing real cases." So it's a matter of bad data management while the title implies that the idea behind using such algorithms for mining data is wrong. It's not. #ai #business #technology #healthcare #machinelearning …see more
