It's a well-known fact that drinking sugar-sweetened beverages is bad for your health. But the results of a new study may reveal just how bad those drinks are. (Spoiler alert: Very, very bad.) The American Heart Association published the study on Monday, in which a team of Harvard researchers showed evidence that people who drink two or more sugary beverages a day (like sodas and sport drinks) were significantly more likely to die early compared to those who drank much less frequently. (The researchers used data on over 100,000 men and women over the course of about 30 years.) But if you want to break free of sugary drinks and are not sure how, what should you do? It's more than the classic underdog story. To watch (former) backup quarterback Nick Foles in action is to take a live class in leadership with emotional intelligence--the ability to make emotions work for you, instead of against you. For example, check out Foles's postgame interview after yesterday's playoff win. Asked what's going through his mind in these high-pressure situations, Foles said this: "What I learned on those stages is just how to calm myself in a chaotic moment, when there's...a ton of pressure. And just really simplifying in my head. Getting in the huddle, looking at the guys that I trust. Know that it's all on the line for us and we're just going to get the job done." Foles then summed up the lesson in 6 simple words: "It's just belief in one another." Foles's comments may be inspiring, but they're also backed up by serious research. Building trust requires communication that’s both effective AND consistent. Consistent communication allows you to stay in touch with others' reality. You send the message that what’s important to them is important to you. For example, one series of recent studies led research organization Gallup to conclude that the most effective managers use a combination of face-to-face, phone, and electronic communication to reach employees, and they return calls or messages within 24 hours. Additionally, Gallup found that most employees value communication from their managers about “what happens in their lives outside of work.” All of this contributes to the feeling that the manager or team lead is invested in the employee as a real person. Thrilled and honored to share how leaders and the c-suite can bridge the potential gap for students and professionals from historically marginalized communities at the annual Forbes CMO Summit! Immigrating from Vietnam to the U.S. at the age of six, I learned firsthand the hardship that first-generation and low-income communities face to belong and thrive. We’ve all been uplifted and helped at some point in our careers. It’s important we pay it forward and help others fulfill their fullest potential through mentorship. Especially during this challenging time. Can’t wait to share a few of our student Phoenix stories from Close the Gap . Looking forward to hearing from leaders like Kenneth Mitchell , Stephanie Buscemi , Kimberly Evans Paige , Matthew Anderson , and many more world-class CMOs who are committed to bridge the potential gap. 🤝 Thanks Jenny Rooney , Marty Swant , Jessica Charles , and Liz Pitonyak for shining a spotlight on such an amazing cause and how we can all work together and uplift one another during this pandemic. 💛 …see more

How do you come up with all this content? 👀 👆🏽That’s one of your top questions for me, LinkedIn family. One of my best hacks is to keep a commonplace book. 📒 A commonplace book allows you to keep track of articles, ideas, and quotes you come across. When I do need to create a new piece, I simply reach into the book for ideas. My “book” is also digital and I use Notion ( notion.com ) as my commonplace book. #linkedintopvoices #productivityhacks …see more
