Leave people alone and let them work. The key metric is results. There are no points for extra meetings or endless hours on Zoom or dozens of interim reports. Just deadlines for specific results. Here's why.

Have a look at this shocker on a Escape Door, I truly believe we should now be treating Access control but certainly on Fire and Escape doors in a similar way as fire. A design Cert, install Cert and commissioning Cert and only by competent persons with at least a basic understanding of the Construction Products Regulation, BSEN1634, BSEN179 BSEN1125 and of building regs, relevant approved documents as well as the FRA and implications with other standards and guidance such as BS5839 and BS7273 which should not be read in isolation. Financial planning training has to evolve to include softer skills and perhaps a practical apprenticeship to learn empathy and coaching skills. The business model would also need to evolve accordingly to de-link from investment assets under management. Financial education for clients could be fun. We need many more financial coaches to reach those who need help. Discussed this and many other issues at the panel organised by FPSB for World Financial Planning Day. I can tell you that everything looks sexy but once you try to implement it’s not going to do exactly what you want it to do. Find the right technology to get you 80 or 90 percent there and then figure out the way to work around the flaws in the program and you’ll be much happier because nothing is 100 percent. The cloud behaves strangely — get used to it! #radicalcpa …see more

Rich, 15 minute episode with Katrina Lake, Founder and CEO of Stitch Fix. She’s the youngest, female CEO of a public company who has built a unicorn. 👏🏻👏🏻 She shared great advices: 1) Culture is the way to motivate employees versus amount of $ raised or made. 2) Epiphany of having diverse minds in the room will result in best outcomes that’s bigger than sum of each. 2) It’s important to zoom out (especially as the founder) from the day-to-day and be more forward looking to prevent the crazy roller coaster feeling of the startups and entrepreneurship. 3) We should evolve quickly as employees, founders, and executives of fast growing companies as things change rapidly, so we need to make sure we love our jobs at any new stage of the company and put our best into it all the time to help the company wins. Thank you Katrina Lake for the awesome advices! We are proud of you and love what you’re doing! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 #thebestCEOs #femalefounders #stitc …see more
I’m a huge fan of Gusto as their product is awesome and probably one of the most well designed and most intuitive B2B products. That’s really testimony to their “empathy” for their customers and putting customers in the center of their design and development. Congrats to Tomer London and the team for making HR and payroll simple, fun, and humanized! #mission #productmanagement #bestproducts …see more
Body scanning and tone analysis are where most of the privacy concerns come from in the case of Halo, Amazon’s new wearable device. Would you be fine with hearing these lines from your wearable tracker? (These are extracts from a user’s experience with living with Halo): “You had three phrases that sounded annoyed, irritated or disgusted in the past week.” “Find a well-lit area and try to avoid light from behind. Change into minimal clothing so the camera can see your body.” #amazon #halo #privacy #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #wearable #health #healthy …see more
There is a great story in Wired about two startups, BenevolentAI and Atomwise and how their researchers are trying to find drugs that could be useful in treating COVID-19 patients. They look for new drug combinations and also trying to repurpose existing medications. This is only possible through A.I.-based simulations, data mining and network science. One of the issues of this infection everyone is talking about recently is the cytokine storm it causes that can lead to intensive care even for younger adults. It seems there is an antiviral treatment that could help prevent it from happening and all this was found using the methods I listed above. A.I. finally becomes mainstream and I cannot wait to read the myriad of papers that come out in the coming weeks. #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence #deeplearning #machinelearning #COVID19 #COVID_19 #coronavirus …see more

What do you wish you knew before starting your career? I just finished Confessions of a public speaker, a book every speaker should read. I stopped keeping track of how many presentations and keynotes I have given after 500. The book made me think about the one thing that I would have loved to know before even giving a speech. The example I saw back then was that you make a breakthrough (in science, in business, or by publishing a great book, etc.) and then you can ride that wave for many years. I've seen good speakers give the same talk many times. The truth is that in the 21st century it doesn't work. Being a speaker today means that you constantly refresh yourself and the content you present while also making it as spectacular as possible. You have to entertain while keeping your integrity (especially critical for me talking about healthcare). It's a pressing challenge but I've been enjoying this ""ride"" for long. Along these lines, my new keynote narrative entirely dedicated to artificial intelligence in medicine comes out this September. So, what do you wish you knew before starting your career? #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #future #healthcare #medicine #technology #fromchancetochoice #speaker #keynote #speakerlife …see more
