All it takes is one minute a day to stop yourself from wasting time. Don’t kill yourself trying to do it all at once. You’ll get the shakes and die. Just one minute a day. #Productivity
Here's my Thanksgiving wish to and for all: spread kindness like confetti. There is no place for meanness -- ever -- regardless of the circumstance. Nothing justifies nastiness. This applies to adults and kids....at all ages and stages. And, to that end, reward kindness; stamp out meanness. …see more

I’m a fan of interview questions that help assess the candidates’ ability to reflect & self-evaluate. This question is a good one in that vein: “Tell me about the most recent constructive feedback your boss gave you & how you utilized that to improve” …see more
Question:Heart Attack or Indigestion? Aortic Dissection or Stomach Flu? Ruptured Spinal Disc or Sprained Muscle? Answer: How the heck should I know?...That’s what the ER is for! But...Not so, according to Anthem (and probably other) health insurers. Apparently there are “New Rules” for what gets covered and what you get billed for. New Rules include: Needing to know what’s wrong with you before you get to the ER; Getting billed for the whole Cost of Care if your problem is not serious. I fully realize that many ER visits are for basic health care needs (in part because our primary care system is broken and many people do not have regular doctors) BUT, this practice by insurers of using ‘hindsight diagnosis’ is unethical and well, cruel. Selected Excerpt: “Anthem denied thousands of claims last year under its “avoidable E.R. program...”. The program, which Anthem has been rolling out in a handful of states in recent years, reviews claims based on the final diagnosis of patients.” …see more
As someone who used to work in a very busy ER, ( seeing 100,000 people yearly) I can add a few thoughts... I worked as an ER nurse doing all functions including triage, running the code ... Here's what I suggest: don't go to the ER unless you are acutely ill--as in having fallen off a ladder and you broke a bone, or feel like an elephant is sitting on your chest because the pain is so bad, or you are vomiting and can't stop--stuff like this!! Too often when you call doctors /nurses with a problem, they offer to see you in their office or tell you to go to the ER... Trust me--they only say "or go to the ER" for their own malpractice--not because they are worried! …see more
‘Futurologist’ and “Self-defined geek”: just some of the titles I get announced with at several events. When I give a keynote or take part in a discussion as a speaker, the hosts are very careful to use the word “Futurist”. I’m not sure why, as it’s a profession and also a scientific field (futuristic studies). So here you go: I started using this visual more and more because it seems to explain my profession much better: We’re exploring the future just as archeologists explore the past. For archeologists, it’s fossils, dinosaurs, relics and historical data that help create visions about what might have happened (in short), whereas for futurists it's trends, data, scenarios and foresight that helps depict visions about the future (also in short). There are so many issues around the potential role artificial intelligence can play in healthcare and medicine that I thought it would make sense to write two articles on this. One about 7 things we can definitely expect A.I. will be capable of. The other one will come out tomorrow describing 7 things we certainly cannot expect A.I. to do in medicine. I'm curious about your views on these! #themedicalfuturist #digitalhealth #healthcare #medicine #technology #AI #artificialintelligence …see more
