CEOs of dozens of healthcare companies such as CVS, Cerner, Epic, Sanofi, and Pfizer shared their views on how pandemic is transforming their businesses and the healthcare industry as a whole. Here are some of the highlights: ➕Telehealth is the name of the game going forward. Kasier reported that it went from 18% virtual visits to 80% almost overnight. Habit and Discipline: Borrrring—But... No one likes to do things that are hard or uncomfortable or not fun! I mean, who likes to dental floss or diet? I get it. But people who are able to think beyond ‘the here-and-now’ do it all the time. They can put off something they want ‘now’ because they can think about ‘later.’ Often when I hear people talk about why they quit smoking or lost a lot of weight, it’s often because that person is thinking about being alive to see their child’s graduation, or because they have a personal goal of climbing a mountain or running a 10K. Wearing a mask is absolutely the same: doing something uncomfortable ‘now’ for some benefit that accrues ‘later...’ My advice? Pick a goal that is in the future and adjust your behavior to ensure you and your loved ones are alive and well to realize it... Are We a Nation of Bullies? Well... Apparently, some people are threatening public health officials over developing public health measures to protect The Public(!!!) from COVID-19. Everyone understands that Public Health Officials are here to help All Of Us, right? What is wrong with people? Although shutdown measures are broadly popular, a vocal minority opposes them vociferously. There have been attacks on public health officials’ race, gender, sexual orientation and appearance. Find it Hard to Concentrate at Work? Maybe You Are Neurodivergent. Ever wondered why its so hard to concentrate at work? Two reasons: firstly, cubicles and open spaces are noisy, distracting and communal-encouraging “drop-in” meetings and interruptions. And secondly because not everyone is ‘wired’ to handle so much chatter and unpredictability. Neurodivergence describes the variations in the ways our brains function, and encompasses people on the autism spectrum and people with ADHD or dyslexia. The term has been expanding to include those with anxiety, depression, OCD, and PTSD—anything that makes a person think a bit differently. And this can make typical work spaces and work flow challenging. However there are adjustments in a work setting that can be made, include allowing more time working from home, adjusting neurodivergent workers start time and end time. Allowing for this flexibility in scheduling and letting people do what they need to do to cope with noise or environment—without judgement. At-home laboratory tests have a chance to shine. The pandemic led to a situation where it's advantageous to do certain lab tests at home to avoid exposure to the infection. In the last 2 years, I've tried and used many tests that used to be only available at laboratories. Here are all of them: - Microbiome test (Thryve and Atlas Biomed) - helped refine my diet - Whole Genome Sequencing + BRCA genetic testing (Dante Labs) - helped design a preventive plan with my GP - Genetic ancestry (National Geographic) - for fun - Medication sensitivity, genetic test (MyDNA) - my GP took notes - Gluten and peanut content in food (Nima) - just for the sake of the technology - Celiac disease test (Imaware) - I'm not sensitive to gluten - Food intolerance for fructose and lactose (FoodMarble) - no results yet We are collecting even more to give a comprehensive image about where this industry is heading and what services are becoming available at home.
